Business LineupICT and Digital Solutions

Since the foundation in 1964, we have been contributing to the designs of thermal power plants for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (currently Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) and we have gradually expanded our expertise to the designs of boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, machines, civil engineering and construction, piping, and instrumentation and control. Because saving fossil fuels is an urgent issue in recent years, the development of next-generation power generating technologies, such as high-efficiency IGCC and biomass power generation, is under way. Future designs of power plants must respond to the demands of the times. We will continue to improve our technology.

We plan and design the machines to be installed on large ships such as tankers and passenger ships, including boilers and turbines for ships and exhaust turbine superchargers. These machines need to be designed according to the rules required exclusively for ships and the usage conditions specific to ships to ensure safe and comfortable maritime operation. We are constantly improving our skills to meet such requirements.

We design varied industrial machines for manufacturing industrial products, such as tire production machines, in an integrated manner. We create basic designs and detailed designs, and even design electrical control.We respond to the diverse needs of our customers ranging from designing components and assemblies of any kind to factory automation.

We develop programs to streamline designs using 3D-CAD and create animations that simulate the procedures for assembling and disassembling devices based on solid models. Our product, 3+ System, can centrally manage PC resources in a virtual environment.

We support the development that is directly connected to improving the reliability and quality of products (mainly automobiles) as systems. We not only plan evaluations and manage component specifications but also conduct unit tests and system tests to check whether devices comply with the design specifications. If any device should fail to conform to the specifications, we provide the designers with analysis and feedback. In addition, we design and manufacture instrumentation and control devices, software, benches, tools, and wire harness for unit and system tests.

Boiler Designs

Gas Turbine Designs Steam Turbine DesignsWe develop gas turbines and assist in production designs for gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power generation, which is clean, highly efficient thermal energy. Our role is to create structural plans, create detailed designs, and provide different types of analysis by using 3D software. We also provide customer services and technical support through our thorough support system.

We design land steam turbines. The ultimate purpose of a turbine is to generate electrical energy. Turbines are usually used in thermal power plants and designing turbines requires precise techniques. We create plans and detailed designs for rotors, cylinders and piping.

Pipe Arrangement Designs

With using the piping stress analysis system (Auto PIPE), we analyze the primary stress and the thermal displacement stress of piping systems to determine the appropriate pipe routes and provide support designs. The plant integration system, which creates basic plans and detailed designs in 3D, can easily optimize piping plans and perform interference checks. The system can also compute stress and create support designs.

Instrumentation and Control Designs

We design steel-frame or concrete structures basic and detailed in civil engineering and construction for various power generation plants and waste treatment facilities at home and abroad, and upon request pro-vides supervision of construction work on site. When building a plant, we create plans and detailed designs that best suit the purpose of the building to meet the high requirements of our customers.

Civil Engineering and Construction Designs

We design the instrumentation and controls not only for maintaining the operating status of power plants, but also for checking the status of the facilities in the plant and the controls for operating auxiliary devices. Also we provide technical support for control devices in designing, manufacturing, shipping and on-site business. The information collected by the controls is sent to the central control operation room, so that the facilities could be monitored and controlled automati-cally and smoothly.

Nuclear Power Generation Designs

We support the development designs for fast breeder reactors (FBR) and the International Thermonuclear Reactor (ITER). We plan the arrangement of devices, create structural designs, and perform varied analysis by using 3D software. We also support the restart of nuclear generation facilities in Japan and design the specific power generation facilities that require strategies against serious accidents. We provide an extensive support system such as sending technicians and dispatching required personnel to local sites.

We design the boiler which is the heart of the thermal or combined power generation plant. The function of the boiler is to apply thermal energy to water to generate high temperature and pressure steam and supply it to the turbine. In the thermal power generation plant, thermal energy is from the fuel such as coals or oil, while in the combined power generation plant, thermal energy is of hot exhaust gas after rotating the gas turbine.With extensive design experiences over the years, we create structural plans and detailed designs for boilers, combustion equipment, ducts, piping and supporting structures in thermal power plants. Because saving fossil fuels is an urgent issue in recent years, we also contribute our expertise to next-generation power plants such as high-efficiency IGCC and biomass power generation.

Control System DevelopmentWe design and develop the hardware and software required for measuring, controlling, and testing electric and electronic devices. Mainly, we support the de-velopment and verification of car-mounted control units as independent units and as in-vehicle systems. We create the systems for processing and verification, and manage and operate in-vehicle network information.

Quality Assurance for Electric and Electronic DevicesWe support in assuring the reliability and quality of electric and electronic devices. Mainly, we manage the progress of device development, create benches for evaluation systems, and conduct tests for assuring reliability. We also contribute to improving the per-formance of self-diagnostic functions in automobiles.

Instrumentation and Control Device ManufactureWe design, prototype and manufacture the instru-mentation and control devices that are required for evaluating products and the control devices used in production. We also install the devices in actual machines, perform trial runs, and provide on-site solutions.

Experiments and Creating Environment for ExperimentsWe conduct unit tests and system tests for car-mounted electric and electronic devices. In the development stage, we check the functions and performance of the devices. In the actual vehicle stage, we investigate and analyze the failures and malfunctions. Our primary role is to send feedback to the designers to improve quality. We also manufacture benches and tools for checking functions and performance.

Maritime Boiler and Supercharger DesignsWe create structural plans and detailed designs for boilers and turbines for ships and exhaust turbine superchargers which are to be installed on large ships such as tankers and passenger ships. We also provide customer services and technical support through our thorough support system.

Industrial Machinery DesignsWe design industrial machines for manufacturing and testing varied industrial products, such as tire production machines and carrier devices. Using our accumulated know-how based on machine elements, we support machine designs in an integrated manner, ranging from basic plans to detailed designs to control.

ICT System DevelopmentOur internal Linux-based servers are useful to perform a variety of work, ranging from network management to system development and operation to maintenance to security management. We are building and virtualizing networks so that users can always work in an efficient manner. We also use this technology to develop Thin Client Systems.

Digital ContentOur 3D-CAD and animation technology using computer graphics enable us to see what cannot be seen. This is helpful to understand the internal structures and workings of a giant, complex device. This technologies are also useful for exhibits and promoting products.
