SYNOPSIS It’s the night before Christmas, Frodo and Baggins, Santa’s elves, are getting the presents ready to send. As they are wrapping the presents, Rudolph starts to sneeze, he has the flu and can’t work. The elves realize they will need to find another helper and fast! But which other animal will do the job as well as Rudolph? They call the Zoo and ask for an animal. First they get a sheep, but the sheep keeps falling asleep. Next, they send a lion, but the lion is too fierce. Then they send a monkey, but the monkey is too naughty. None of them have a red nose, none of them can fly and none of them can post the presents. It’s a disaster. Their only hope is that Rudolph gets better and can post the presents in time for Christmas.

WORKSHEET 3 Make sure the students understand that the 2 elves and Rudolph help Santa get the presents ready for Christmas. Ask them what you have to do to get a present ready. The verb to describe putting on the paper is “wrap”. Each of the characters has a job to do. Write the words: “PACK, WRAP, POST, PRESENT, SANTA, STAR” on the board and get the students to fill in the gaps with the correct word. Younger students can just sing along. Answers: A-PACK/PRESENTS; B-WRAP/PRESENTS; C-POST(S)/PRESENTS; SANTA(‘S)/STAR

WORKSHEET 2 Ensure the students understand the word “Christmas.” Ask them about Christmas in their home. Every home/culture/country has different traditions. In England, all the presents come from Santa on Christmas day and are put under the Christmas tree. Listen to TRACK 4 and get the students to write the correct number next to the correct picture. Children from cicle inicial can also write the words. Answers: A-3-BELLS; B-1-PRESENTS; C-2-CHRISTMAS TREE Explain that in the story Rudolph gets the flu and another animal has to come from the zoo to replace him. Listen to TRACK 5 and get the students to write the correct numbers in the circles. Children from cicle inicial can also write the words. Answers: A-2-SHEEP; B-3-MONKEY; C-1-LION Ask them if they think these animals can do the same job as Rudolph. If they say no, ask them why and have them explain.
CHARACTERS TRACK 1 Learn the names and be familiar with the four main characters in the play.
WORKSHEET 1 FIRST: USE THE FLASHCARDS TO INTRODUCE THE CHARACTERS. Get the students to colour in the pictures of Rudolph, Santa and the two elves. Santa wears red, Rudolph is brown with a red nose and the elves wear red and green. Ask them what they know about these characters. Who is Santa? What does he do? Who is Rudolph? What kind of animal is he? What does he do at Christmas? Explain that Rudolph is Santa’s special Reindeer, he is “Santa’s Star”. Normally he wears a star badge and helps Santa post the presents. Who are the Elves? Explain that they work in the present workshop and they help Santa get all the presents ready for Christmas. Listen to TRACK 1 and get the students to write the numbers in the correct circles. Answers: A-2-RUDOLPH; B-1-SANTA; C-4-BAGGINS; D-3-FRODO

WORKSHEET 6 Rudolph is Santa’s most famous reindeer and also his favourite one. He is famous because he has a red nose. The children can colour in the picture as they listen to the song. Make sure they colour his nose red!

WORKSHEET 5 - CICLE INICIAL ONLY Explain that New Year is on January 1st and that the song is a greeting sung at Christmas. Get the students to fill in the gaps in the song lyrics, then do the crossword. To help younger children you can write the following words on the board so they can copy: CHRISTMAS, HAPPY, WISH, NEW YEAR, MERRY, YOU. Play the song and sing along! WORKSHEET 7 Let’s play memory! Print 2 copies of the page and cut out the squares. Review each picture before laying them out on the table. Every time the students have a match, help them say, e.g. “2 Santa’s! I’ve got a match!”
BINGO GAME Practice vocabulary
WORKSHEET 8 Let’s play bingo! Print as many bingo boards as students. Each page has 3 boards. Use counters for marking the squares on each board. Use the memory cards to review the vocabulary. Now you can begin to play! Mix the cards and show each one to the class asking “Who’s got (a)…?” They should answer “I’ve got (a)…” When one of the students fills a board they should shout “BINGO”!

WORKSHEET 9 After the students have seen the show, have them draw a picture of it and colour it in. When they’re finished, they can describe what they drew to the class.
