Translated and Directed By Produced By Music Composed By A play by Federico García Lorca Synopsis Crew Special Thanks Blood Wedding, by the Spanish playwright and poet Federico García Lorca, dramatizes the story of a reluctant bride, an intense passion in a traditional society at odds with the ardent desires of young people, and the tragic consequences they face when they follow their hearts. The play is a site-specific, promenade performance that will be presented in the village of Hammana. Federico García Lorca, born in 1898 near Granada, Spain, is one of the most significant and celebrated Spanish and European writers, poets and dramatists of the 20th century. In addition to Blood Wedding (1932), other important works by Lorca include his volumes of poetry Poet in New York (1930-1929) and Divan del Tamarit (1936), and the plays Yerma (1934) and The House of Bernarda Alba (1936). Lorca, who was murdered by a fascist militia in 1936 at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, is arguably the most admired poet and dramatist in the Arab world who is not from an Arabic-speaking country.
