Synthesizing information and drawing conclusions Week 10
Synthesizing
As you research a topic, you will generally look for information in two or more sources. Often
you will be able to use facts drawn from different sources as the basis for a conclusion. This
process of drawing information from different sources and using it to reach new conclusions is
called synthesizing.
In the FCAT, you will be asked to synthesize information from two or more sources.
These sources might take the form of articles or textbook excerpts, but they may also be
graphs, charts, photographs, and so on. Your task will be to take the relevant
information from each and answer the questions that follow.
Practice synthesizing information whenever you read a textbook, magazine, or
newspaper. Think about how the textual and visual materials work together. How
do the visual information make materials ass to the text? Howe does combing
textual with visual information make ideas and information easier to
understand?
