OPERATING PRACTICES:1. Determine weight of the load. The weight of the loadshall be within the rated capacity of the sling.2. Select sling having suitable characteristics for thetype of load, hitch, & environment.3. Slings shall not be loaded in excess of the ratedcapaci ty. Consideration shal l be given to the slingload angle, which affects rated capacity. (See loadfactor chart.)4. Slings with fittings, which are used as a choker hitchshall be of sufficient length to assure that the chokingaction is on the sling, and never on a fitting.5. Slings used in a basket hitch shall have the loadbalanced to prevent slippage.6. The opening infitt ings shall be the proper shape andsize to insure that the f it ting wi ll seat proper ly in thehook or other attachments.7. Slings shall always be protected from being cut fromsharp corners, sharp edges, protrusions, or abrasivesurfaces.8. Slings shall not be dragged on the floor, or over anabrasive surface.9. Slings shal l not be twisted, tied into knots, or joinedby knotting.10. Slings shall not be pul led from under loads i f the load isresting on the sling.11. Do not drop slings equipped with fittings.12. Slings that appear to be damaged shall not be usedunless inspected & accepted.13. The sling shall be hitched in a manner pro-vidingcontrol of the load.14. Personnel, including portions of the human body, shall be kept from between the sling and the load, and from between the sling and the crane or hoisthook.15. Personnel shall stand clear of the suspended load.16. Personnel shall not r ide the sling.17. Shock loading shall be avoided.18. Twisting and kinking the legs (branches) shall beavoided.19. Load applied shall be centered in the base (bowl) ofhook to prevent point loading of the hook.20. During lifting, with or without the load, personnel shallbe alert for possible snagging21. The slings' legs shall contain or support the load fromthe sides above the center of gravity when using abasket hitch.22. Slings shall be long enough so that the ratedcapacity of the sling is adequate when the angle ofthe legs is taken into consideration. (See load chart.)

Sling Ang/e is the angle measured between a horizontal lineand the sling leg or body. This angle is very important and canhave a dramatic effect on the rated capacity of the sling. Asillustrated, when this angle decreases, the load on each legincreases. This principle applies whether on sling is used topull at an angle, in a basket hitch orfor multi-legged bridleslings. This data is only for equally loaded sling legs. Slingangles of less than 30 degrees are not recommended.

~e HHlperLift family of roundslings made withHoneywell Spectra fibers is a part of a series ofnew generation lifting tools utilizing "Space AgeMaterials", and high technology design methodolo-gies. Excellent Fatigue Resistance Excellent Damping Characteristics(Vibration, Shock, and Impact)

High Specific Modulus. Excellent forLifting and Mooring in Ultra Deep Water

High Chemical Resistance Good UV Resistance Highly Cut Resistant Prolonged Emersion in Saltwater Made in America Enhanced Durability 100% Proof Tested and More

HHlperLift Spectra RoundslingGeneral and Technical DataHigh Contact Rigging Efficiency (HCRE)HHlperLift Spectra roundslings offers superiorrigging efficiency compared to conventionalmaterials such as wire rope, braided rope and tradi-tional roundslings that generally require fairly largeand fixed diameters in regard to the amount of liftingpotential achieved.

H HlperLift's advantage over braided rope, helically laid stranded yarn is made possible byuse of a special oversized triple cover with parallaid yarn inside. This cover allows the userre-shape the sling to better fit the load bearinsurface that is available. In doing so, HHlperLift Spectra slings provide mocontact of the lifting fibers with the pin, and cactually allow for the use of a smaller size shackleaccomplishing the lift. This is done while maintaininthe required 3:1 Old ratio because the thicknessthe fiber bundle in contact with the lifting area hbeen reduced.Ratings and Design Factors:HHlperLift Spectra roundslings are rated in tonneThe design factor is 5:1 (Ultimate = 5 x rated loadExceeding rated capacity is not recommended.Cross Sectional Area:The cross sectional area, measured in squainches, is the area occupied by the Spectra lobearing wraps at its rated capacity when pulled dowaround a pin. Using the HH-75T-SP 75 tonne agaas an example, the cross sectional area is an excetional 4.40 inches- when compared to other slimaterials that have a fixed cross section area.Old Ratios:In order for the Spectra sling system to properachieve the loads it was designed for, it is necessato maintain a minimum of a 3:1 Old ratio. This meathat the pin size the sling is going around must haat least 3 times the diameter of the sling at tbearing point.

Characteristics and Advantages: Much Stronger: Up to 40% greater specifstrength than aramid fibers (Technora, Kevlar) woutstanding toughness and durability. Lightweight: Spectra slings are light enough tomanipulated without the use of special equipment, work rated ROV's (a vertical 15' 75 ton sling weighless than 75 pounds). Reduced Elongation: Maximum of 3.8%breaking load. Flotation Properties: Lightweight, with 0.97 gldensity. Tends to remain in fairly stationary positioin deep water. Prolonged Emersion in Saltwater:Honeywell Spectra testing indicates no reductioin lifting capacity after 6 months of emersion anonly 1-2% loss after 12 months in seawater. Excellent fatigue resistance. Excellent Damping Characteristics (VibratioShock, and Impact): Can withstand high-loastrain-rate velocities. High Specific Modulus: Excellent for lifting amooring in ultra deep water. Exceptional hipressure resistance. High chemical resistance. Good UV resistance. Highly cut resistant. Made in America: All Honeywell Spectra fibeand the cover materials are made in the U.S. Thfabrication and load testing of the slings aperformed at HHI's Houston, Tx facility. API-Q1 standards of design, calculation, largsample testing, and general use of scientifmethods were utilized in the developmentSpectra Roundslings.
