IMPORTANT NOTICE WHEN UPGRADING TO SYS 600 9.3 FP1

Network topology coloring

Some manual work is required for NTC migration, when system is upgraded to 9.3 FP1.

For more information, see New Features chapter in this document and Application Design manual.

Compatibility of Remote and X monitor types

If you are using Remote or X monitor types together with the system, a separate MicroSCADA Exceed Support installation package is also needed.

Using Visual Basic scripts in displays

It is recommended NOT to use Visual Basic scripts in displays.

The technology used for supporting the Visual Basic scripts in the displays is no longer maintained. It will be withdrawn from the product when it is no longer economically and technically feasible to maintain it.

Project-specific logical colors for Monitor Pro

When 9.3 or 9.3 FP1 is installed the indexes 120 - 159 are overwritten in color SYS600_colors.clut file. These indexes are allocated for other displays than Process Display. Also indexes 110 - 119 are overwritten to make refined tagout colors available. For Process Displays created with earlier version than 9.3 that are using colors from the old basic color range, especially indexes 112 - 159, there might be need to map the colors to other indexes. When assigning color values to Process Displays it is recommended to use colors 0 - 15 or 160 - 255. There will be changes in overwriting the color indexes in future releases, especially concerning indexes 120 - 159. Tagout colors will be more likely still available as indexes 110 - 119, which overwrite the old basic color range by indexes 112 - 119.

Localization

New dialog is introduced in Monitor Pro specific resource file FrameWindow_EN.dll. Localized resource files need to be updated. See SYS 600 Application Design manual (15. Localizing application) for more information about the localization process.

Windows 7 and Server 2008 compatibility

If you are using Windows 7 or Server 2008, refer to chapter Base system, Windows 7 and Server 2008 in Release Notes for SYS 600 9.3 for important compatibility information.

Project-specific changes to product files

If project-specific changes have been made to standard files and application objects (for example command procedures) that are part of this product release, these changes have to be backed up before installing a new version and, if needed, restored manually after the installation.

The program code of all FMU_* command procedures is automatically backed up and stored in the PICT/ FMU_CPROC.BAK file.

The program code of all SYS_* command procedures is automatically backed up and stored in the PICT/ SYS_CPROC.BAK file.

The following command procedures and process objects that are known to be changed on a project-specific basis will be updated by this product release, and they need to be backed up manually:

BGU_AL BGU_ALARMINDS BGU_BAYLR BGU_BLOCK BGU_CALEN BGU_CALMP BGU_CONTROL BGU_CREATEDB BGU_DIALUP BGU_DST1 BGU_DST2 BGU_EL_TS BGU_RDRE BGU_STALR BGU_TRAFO BGU_UPDATE SAGR_EAB_MAIN SAGR_INIT_1 SAGR_INIT_H SAGR_OBJNAV_MAIN SAGR_REPORTS_* ACK_SOUND:P BGU_ALARMINDS:P (indexes 1 .. 10)

The following files, which have been updated in this product version, have to be manually taken into use by renaming the files, for example shutdown$cin -> shutdown.cin. Possible project-specific changes in the existing files have to be transferred to the new file manually. To ensure the correct operation of the product, it is important that the new files are taken into use.

It is mandatory to update the following files:

- sys_bascon$com - sys_config$par - shutdown$cin

LAST MINUTE REMARKS

Update Manager

Communication Engineering Tool (CET) is based on PCM600 framework, which installs Update Manager (UM). There is a shortcut icon on the desktop.

However, UM is not used by CET and it is mentioned when UM is opened; some unstable behavior may occur.

Printing Process Displays

Occasionally there are problems with printing the Process Display in Monitor Pro, and a blank page is printed.

The workaround is to copy a screenshot to the clipboard by pressing PrtScr or Alt+PrtScr on the keyboard and then pasting the image to another software, such as Paint or Wordpad.

SQL Server Express 2008 SP2

Due to issues in the SQL Server, the installation will fail if the computer has the following configuration:

- Operating system is Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 - SYS 600 or PCM600 is not previously installed - Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile is installed - Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is not installed

To make sure the installation will work, please do one of the following actions before the installation:

- Download and install .NET Framework 4 from the address http://www.microsoft.com/net/

- Uninstall .NET Framework 4 Client Profile

NEW FEATURES This chapter highlights the main new features of this release. More new features are listed in the following chapters.

New Network Topology Calculation and Coloring

Overview

9.3 FP1 introduces a new solution for the network topology calculation and coloring functionality. The solution is more transparent, robust and flexible for future enhancements while also delivering enhanced functionality and better performance.

The benefits of the solution are:

- consistency and model checking reduce the amount of engineering errors - the topological state is available in the process database with defined semantics - faster engineering through graphical topology (connectivity) presentation - improved performance - coloring of switching devices, transformers and other single line diagram elements

based on the active coloring mode (voltage level, voltage source, ...) - topology information available in the process database that allows post-processing,

event/alarm handling, and so on, based on the topology information - possibility to use topology information in the application (SCIL), for example, for

topology based interlocking - future proof concept of schemas - different schemas for different application areas,

versioning for compatibility

Concept

Schemas and Models

The solution introduces the concept of Schemas and Models. A Schema defines the calculation algorithm. In 9.3 FP1 there is one Schema available for the electrical power process. The concept of Schemas allows new calculation algorithms to be introduced in the future if needed. The version management of Schemas allows several versions of the same schema to exist in parallel. This guarantees compatibility for the applications.

The Model is the definition of the network components and their connectivity, that is, switching devices, busbars, transformers, and so on. The Model is associated with a specific Schema. Basically, there can be any number of Models in an application, but in most cases there is only one. This is the case when the primary process consists of one electrically connected network. If the application consists of parts that do not affect each other electrically, these parts should have separate Models.

SYS 600 9.3 FP1 Release Notes 1MRS757316

8

Process Objects

The network topology Models are stored in the process database by means of new attributes and a new object type. The connectivity and device types are described by means of Topology Objects. The Topology Calculation updates the topological state to the Topology Objects. The traditional process objects (for example, position indications) are connected to the corresponding Topology Objects. The topology calculation is event-based and triggered by updates in the process objects affecting the topology.

A process object can only be part of one Model.

Switching device positions

As the topology calculation is done on process database level the switching device positions have to be known in the process objects. As IEDs and communication protocols use various ways to represent the different positions of a switching device, a new Topological State (TS) attribute is introduced for the process objects. The TS attribute contains the value of the topological state (0=Intermediate, 1=Closed, 2=Open, 3=Faulty) independently of how the state is coded into the double binary object (DB). By default the values are mapped one-to-one from the double binary object value (OV), but the mapping can also be changed by means of the new Application and Station attributes APL:BSM and STA:BSM.

Engineering

The topology Model is defined by means of process displays. The single line diagram is drawn in the Display Builder and the display is used to define the network connectivity and the connection to the "real" process objects. The Model can be defined by means of one or several displays. The display can include parts of the network as subdrawings (overview displays) or it can be a "flat" display. Connectivity between displays can be achieved by so called overview displays or by installing the same line indicator into several displays.

The engineering process is roughly:

1. draw and save the display(s) 2. create the topology Model 3. add the display(s) to the Model 4. save the Model

The topology Models are mainly managed by the new Topology Models tool accessible from the Display Builder.

The topology engineering is improved by the following features:

1. Highlight topology in the View menu of the Display Builder This function shows graphically the connectivity between the objects in the display and unconnected objects are indicated. This helps to find errors in the topology.

2. Manage Topology Models

The Topology Models tool shows all errors/warnings existing in the model with actions to correct the situation. This makes the topology building smooth and efficient.

SYS 600 9.3 Release Notes 1MRS756932

9

Compatibility and deployment

9.3 FP1 does not support the previous version of the network topology calculation and coloring anymore. This means that the coloring has to be migrated to the new solution. When upgrading an existing application to 9.3 FP1, it is important to check the switching device position indication coding. Also the models for the topology calculation have to be created.

See the Application Design and Process Display Design manuals for more information.

Performance and capacity improvements

The capacity and performance of the Monitor Pro Workplaces have been improved. The improvements are mainly related to:

- Control Dialog opening times - Process Display opening times - Process Display CPU load - List Display CPU load

As a general rule the improvements are better the more workplaces are used and the larger the displays are. The actual improvement depends on several aspects, for example:

- process load - number of active alarms - number of changes in alarm states - number of workplaces - type of displays that are shown in workplaces - size of visible Process Displays - etc.

Due to this, it is not possible document exactly the improvements. However, test cases have shown dialog and display opening time improvements in the ratio of 10:1 and capacity improvements measured in the number of concurrent workplaces in the ratio of 1:20 compared to earlier versions 9.2, 9.3).

These changes improve the user experience and satisfaction through faster and more deterministic response times.

10

SYS 600 9.3 FP1 IMPROVEMENTS AND ERROR CORRECTIONS

Base system

Internals

Private memory pools

The memory management of the base system has been revised for better performance in multiprocessor computers.

The process-specific (‘LOCAL’) memory pools of SCIL running processes (PICO, REPR and PRIN) are no longer used. Thread-specific private pools are used instead. Apart from the former local pool usage, they are used by the OPC Data Access Server (OPCS) threads running SCIL programs requested by the clients.

For more details of private memory pools and their configuration, see the System Configuration manual.

The arguments of the SCIL function MEMORY_POOL_USAGE have been revised to support private pools, see the Programming Language SCIL manual.

Error message time stamps

The error and information messages generated by the base system are now prefixed by a millisecond resolution time stamp to ease analyzing the contents of SYS_ERROR.LOG.

Process and report database

Network Topology

The new network topology architecture has introduced a new predefined process object type, Network Topology (NT) object. NT objects and their attributes are described in detail in the Application Objects manual.

Two new attributes have been added to other process objects:

- NO (Network Object Connection), for all process object types - TS (Topological State), for Binary Input and Double Binary objects

These attributes are described in the SYS 600 Application Objects manual.

SYS 600 9.3 Release Notes 1MRS756932

11

A new SCIL function, NETWORK_TOPOLOGY_MANAGER, has been implemented to manage network topology models, schemas and levels. See the Programming Language SCIL manual for details.

OI (Object Identifier) based queries

The SCIL function APPLICATION_OBJECT_LIST has been extended to support queries in OI (Object Identifier) order. This speeds up the query drastically compared to the index order query doing the selection of OI’s using a filter condition.

See the Programming Language SCIL manual for details.

AG modification to Event List

Modifying the AG (Alarm Generation) attribute of a Binary Input process object did not generate an event to the Event List when done by #MODIFY command (used by the Object Navigator tool, for example). When the attribute was changed by #SET command, an event was generated.

Now, an event is generated in both cases.

Crash caused by modifying ON attribute values

If OPC item names (attribute ON) were modified, created or deleted in an HSB system, the stand-by application occasionally crashed sooner or later after a switch-over.

The crash happened only if the OPC name hierarchy contained nodes that were in a double role, being a branch and leaf at the same time. For example, in the tree containing items A.B.C and A.B, the node A.B specifies an ON value and acts as a branch to item A.B.C.

SCIL

Crash when compiled ‘VAR.ATTR’ expansion fails

A compiled SCIL program containing a variable expansion of type ‘var.attr’, where var is a name of a local or global variable and attr is the name of the attribute, crashed if the expansion failed (for example, because of misspelled variable or attribute name).

Mirroring

Crash in a Hot-standby system

If the mirroring role (MR) of a STA objects was set to IMAGE in a shadowed application, the stand-by application was likely to crash after switch-over when the first mirroring event was received by the STA object.

This problem was introduced in SYS 600 9.3.

SYS 600 9.3 FP1 Release Notes 1MRS757316

12

Crash when setting BS in image

The program crashed by memory deallocation error when a Bit Stream (BS) process object was set in an image application.

Application Window

Tool Launcher improvements

When launching Visual SCIL dialogs from the context menu in Process Displays, the location information was not always correct, which made it hard to position the dialog correctly.

When Tool Launcher is used to open Process Displays, the zoom area arguments were not always handled correctly and occasionally wrong Process Display was opened.

Command line handling improvements

When the intention is to use several parameters in the "Execute Command Line" option in Tool Launcher in Display Builder, Monitor Pro used to treat these as a single parameter. Also other issues with the functionality have been refined, for example, using quotes with executable without parameters (the executable used to become as a first parameter in this case). Quotes are not added to file paths when the file does not exist. User configuration (added quotes) is now honored.

Removing last Process Display Note

When the last Process Display Note is removed, other Monitor Pro instances are notified to update the Display.

Updating Mode State of Back and Forward buttons

When interacting with Monitor Pro so that Measurement Reports are navigated and then returning to Updating Mode, the navigation buttons (back, forward) were not updated properly.

Setting of Startup Display

When command line argument login is used, it is possible to set Startup Display in Application Settings dialog.

Process Displays

Panning and zooming after context menu opening

Panning and zooming by using mouse + keyboard combination did not work after Process Display background context menu was opened.

SYS 600 9.3 Release Notes 1MRS756932

13

Unwanted panning

If the mouse pointer was moving while panning was activated in the Process Display, the display occasionally jumped to a new location.

Context menu localization

Process Display context menus in other languages than English did not work properly.

Context menu icons in 16-bit color depth environment

Context menus in Process Displays lost their icons in 16-bit color depth environment.

Context menu refinements

The context menu of objects in the Process Display is now shown as long as the object has an object name, even if there were no items in the file system for the menu. In this case the menu will show the object name.

Opening time

Opening Process Displays that contained data variables with missing object references took a long time.

Process Display Search dialog placement

The system remembers the Process Display Search dialog placement, when the (global) 'Remember dialog placement' option is selected.

Process Display refresh in Application Window

When Process Display is saved twice in Display Builder, the confirmation message was "overridden" and the Process Display was refreshed in Monitor Pro even though no answer was given to the confirmation message.

Blocking indication for external blocking and open/close blocking in switching device symbol

Now switching device symbol can indicate correctly that the device is externally blocked or open/close blocked.

The symbol color that indicates these statuses is Control Blocked color that by default is brown.

Power Process Library

Control Dialog opening time optimization

The opening time of Control Dialogs is optimized. This concerns Station, Bay, Switching

SYS 600 9.3 FP1 Release Notes 1MRS757316

14

Device and Transformer functions. Optimization is done in the interface command procedures by replacing “obsolete” functions with more efficient ones. Applications with a large database and high load situations have the biggest effect on the opening time.

Blocking function in Control Dialogs

The performance of the blocking function in Control Dialogs is improved.

Interlocking in switch control

The IN attribute was filled incorrectly for interlocking signals, if the logical node CILO was missing from the conducting equipment. Now, in this case, the IN attribute is left empty.

Status Color Indexes construction for switching device

If the indication type of switching device was not Double Binary, the construction of Status Color Indexes for ‘color’ data variable was incorrect, when object was installed in Display Builder.

Process objects for sequence voltages (MSQI)

Support for sequence voltages is added to the measurement function.

Support for logical node MMXN

Support for logical node MMXN is added to the measurement function.

Switching device simulation

When switching device was set to simulation mode, the LA attribute of index 10 was set to 0. Consequently, no alarms were generated anymore, when simulation was set off. Now the value of the LA attribute will remain during the simulation.

Process display information usage in DMS 600

New process displays created with SYS 600 9.3 could not be imported into DMS 600 as such.

Also, the context menu commands such as Trace feeder could not be used.

Control Dialog closing

The “Client Site not available” message was displayed in some cases when the Switching Device Control Dialog was closed.

Control Dialog closing by timeout

A type mismatch message was displayed in the Tap Changer Control Dialog when it was closed because of inactivity.

SYS 600 9.3 Release Notes 1MRS756932

IEC60870-5-101 Master

Backup line behavior is possible

Using new line attribute BA (backup operation) it is possible to force the line to operate according to the document "Norwegian User conventions for IEC60870-5-101". The line switch needs to be done using SCIL application. This functionality is available in both balanced and unbalanced modes.

IEC60870-5-101 Slave

Summertime compensation for the confirmation message

The summertime was not compensated correctly in the confirmation message of the time synchronization. If the COM 500i computer used daylight saving time and the time synchronization command was received, for example, in UTC time, the time in the confirmation message sent back to the master was incorrect by one hour.

Handshaking of the backup line modified

The configuration option defined with OM bit 0 was not implemented to the line operating as backup in a redundant configuration. This may have delayed the switchover from the main line to the backup line. Now the handshaking of the backup line is similar to the main line. The default mode of operation is unchanged.

Data transmission restarting improved in redundant line switch

If the line switch occurred when the event queue was full, the data transmission did not start as expected. This modification has an effect only when the redundancy feature is used.

IEC60870-5-104 Master

Improved behavior in 'application lost' situation

When the station object connected to IEC60870-5-104 master loses its connection to the MicroSCADA application for a long enough time, the TCP connection to the IED was uselessly reopened. This led to a connected - not connected loop which buffered data to the pc_net. The logic has been modified to not reopen the connection to the IED until all buffered data has been received by the configured MicroSCADA application.

Modifications to the TCP connection logic

The TCP connection logic did not work correctly, if the remote device sent incomplete messages or a network error occurred in a certain manner. As a result, it was possible that the new connection was not established at all.

RP-570 Master

Status reporting of the sub-RTU did not work correctly

The status process object with address STAx:SMI2 was not updated correctly when the host-RTU reported that the connection to the sub-RTU was re-established.

Polling algorithm improved for one station configuration

The reliability of the polling algorithm has been improved for configurations where there is only one station object.

COM 500i Application

Signal Routing

Performance optimized

Performance of the signal routing has been optimized, when a station gets suspended or a running status. Now when a station gets the running status, only the trip signals of the station are initialized. Earlier the trip signals of the all running stations were initialized.

A value of the pulse counter was not written to the log

An error happened, if a value of the pulse counter was sent to the RP570 NCC and the record to log functionality was in use.

New command type Secured / 3 output objects

Now it is possible to configure binary output objects through COM 500i using the new command type.

Signal cross-references

Wrong signal handling or alarms groups list

Sometimes wrong list was displayed, when a signal handling or an alarm groups list was opened. Also an address was defined for the wrong NCC in this case. This happened, if the signal had not been selected again, when the indication or command page was opened.

Log Viewer

Error when opening Log Viewer

If an NCC type was CPI and the Log Viewer was opened, the SCIL error appeared.

External OPC Data Access Client

External OPC DA Client Configuration Tool

OPC address space browse improved

Continue OPC servers address space browsing after error has been enabled.
