SYSTEMS THINKING
Focuses on how the things being studied interact with the otherconstituents of the system
IT IS APPLICABLE TO:
1. Complex problems that involve seeing the BIG PICTURE
2. Recurring problems
3. Issues where an action affects the environment
4. problems whose solutions are not very obvious
An ATM is a deterministic system which is predictable in inputs anddelivery

Networks
Most ATMs are connected to interbank networks.
Enables people to withdraw and deposit money from machines notbelonging to the bank where they have their accounts or in thecountries where their accounts are held.
Some examples of interbank networksinclude NYCE, PULSE, PLUS, Cirrus, AFFN, Interswitch, STAR,and LINK.
Many banks charge ATM usage fee. In some cases, these fees are
charged solely to users who are not customers of the bank where theATM is installed; in other cases, they apply to all users.

Security
Encryption of personal information, required by law in many jurisdictions, is usedto prevent fraud.
Alternate methods to verify cardholder identities have been tested and deployedin some countries, such as finger and palm vein patterns, iris, and facialrecognition technologies.
Alarm sensors are placed inside the ATM and in ATM servicing areas to alert theiroperators when doors have been opened by unauthorized personnel.
Security guards and vigilance camera installation
Bank lobbies that are not guarded 24 hours a day may also have secure doorsthat can only be opened from outside by swiping the bank card against a wall-mounted scanner, allowing the bank to identify which card enters the building.
On-screen safety warnings and may also be fitted with convex mirrors above thedisplay allowing the user to see what is happening behind them.
ATMs that are exposed to the outside must be vandal and weather resistant

Foreign Exchange: If the currency being withdrawn from the ATM isdifferent from that which the bank account is denominated in (e.g.:withdrawing USD from a bank account containing INR), the moneywill be converted at an official wholesale exchange rate. Thus, ATMsoften provide one of the best possible official exchange rates for
foreign travelers and are heavily used for this purpose as well.
