What is Systems Engineering 1
Systems Engineering is a process for System Design that looks at the broader aspects of the System. It takes into account the interactions between elements within the System as well as interfaces to the external world. It is a link between all Engineering Disciplines involved in the System Design as well as the Project Management team. The goal is to ensure that the System designed meets the whole life needs of all users.
What is Systems Engineering 2
Systems engineering is the set of activities which guide the overall design, implementation and integration of a complex set of interacting components or systems in order to meet the whole-life needs of all users and other stakeholders within the constraints arising from the system's operational and development environment.
What is Systems Engineering 3
Definition 1: The set of activities which control the overall design, implementation and integration of a complex set of interacting components or systems in order to meet the whole-life needs of all users and other stakeholders within the constraints arising from the system's operational and development environment.
Definition 2: Concerned with the design and analysis of the whole system to achieve optimum results.
Definition 3: An interdisciplinary activity that ensures that the customers needs are satisfied throughout a systems entire life cycle.
Definition 4: An integrated technical process for establishing a system design that includes the product design and the process definitions for development, test, manufacturing, distribution, support, operation, training, and disposal.
Definition 5: The branch of engineering dealing with the design of a complex interrelation of many elements (a system) to maximize an agreed-upon measure of system performance.

Systems Engineering needs, Analysis, Review and Testing leading to design
A different Slant on Systems Engineering
Systems Engineering Occurs at all design levels
What Makes a Good Systems Engineer
Good Experience: Range of Knowledge Different Processes Known Limitations Willingness to Keep Learning
Management Skill: Communications Organisation Planning the design Schedule and Budget matter
What Makes a Good Systems Engineer
Big Picture thinking See the whole problem Determine pitfalls Know Interfaces
Design Skills Analysis of design before committing to a
method Design for test Design to specifications Be prepared to accept change
What Makes a Good Systems Engineer
Art and Science: Great designs are based on great science and
elegant implementation. Look and feel do matter to users
Finish it: If the user always needs your help it isn’t
finished If the producer always needs your help it isn’t
finished You should not be needed after your design is
finished.
