Catechism Question
In today's readings, we hear that we are to obey the 1st Commandment; "You shall worship your Lord, Your God and Him only shall you serve." The Persian King, Cyrus, reads his name in Isaiah's prophecy, written long before Cyrus was king and so, Cyrus believed in the reality and truth of God and was fully willing to do what the Lord God is calling him to do, to restore Judah, Jerusalem, its Temple and the House of Israel. In 1st Thessalonians, we hear from Saint Paul, how the people of Thessaloniki heard Paul's and Timothy's preaching of Christ, the Son of God and came to believe in His Salvation. In Matthew, Jesus in this reading, is only 2 days away from His crucifixion and Passion. He is still trying to explain the Lord God's plan for Salvation to the Temple authori-ties, so that they would come to believe in God's Commandments and His plan for Salvation.
So, if all 3 readings are about bringing belief into our hearts, how does the Catholic Church instruct us to reach that goal?

POWER STRUGGLE
Power struggles occur on every level of society, from the world stage to relationships at work, to our own homes. We struggle for position in the hierarchy of power: Who has power over whom? How do they wield it? What is the source of that power? What is the healthy response? In this Sunday’s Gospel reading the Pharisees engage Jesus in a power struggle over whether Jews should show tribute to Caesar by paying taxes. Jesus’ response puts this and every struggle for power into perspective. In harmony with the words of Isaiah and Paul, Jesus teaches us that God is the ultimate source of all power—the power of earthly rulers, the Pharisees, Jesus, the Church, and the power with-in ourselves. The Catholic Daughters are praying the rosary after the 8 am Mass every Monday. On the first Monday of each month we pray the Patriotic Rosary. We pray for every state and office and for the conversion of our country. The rosary is prayed all other Mondays after Mass for world peace. La escuela pre-escolar de la Purisima está buscando un/a maestro/a para trabajar con niños 2.5-5 años de edad. Requiere tener 12 ECS/ECE unidades y la experiencia en la enseñanza con niños de 2.5-5 años. También necesitará tomar huellas digitales o estar dispuestos a tomar huellas digitales, actualizar la MMR y archivos de vacunas para la tos ferina. Conocimiento del currículo pre-escolar y currículo afuera de clase es el preferido, y ser creativo, interesante, cuidado y compromiso. LUCHA POR EL PODER Las luchas por el poder ocurren en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad, desde el escenario mundial hasta en las relaciones en el trabajo, y hasta en nuestros hogares. Luchamos por un puesto en la jerarquía de poder. ¿Quién tiene poder sobre quién? ¿Cómo lo usamos? ¿Cuál es la fuente de ese po-der? ¿Cuál es la respuesta sana ante el mismo? En la lectura del Evangelio de hoy los fariseos mezclan a Jesús en la lucha por el poder sobre si los judíos deben rendir tributo a César pagando los impuestos. La respuesta de Jesús da a esta lucha y a toda lucha por el poder otra perspectiva. En consonancia con las palabras de Isaías y de Pablo, Je-sús nos enseña que Dios es la fuente final de todo poder –el poder de los que gobiernan en la tierra, los fariseos, Jesús, la Iglesia y el poder dentro de nosotros. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En tiempos pasados, cuando los fieles latinoamericanos se enferma-ban gravemente se mandaba traer al sacerdote para que le administrara los “santos óleos” o la “extremaunción”. Nadie quería ver a un sacerdote acércasele con los óleos porque significaba que uno estaba por morir. Gracias a Dios, las reformas del Concilio Vaticano II han regresado al sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos su sentido original. Este sacramento es celebrado para todos los que tengan alguna enfermedad seria, aunque no sea de muerte. El sacramento es para pedir consuelo para el enfermo y si es voluntad de Dios, la salud. Este sacramento no debe ser reservado para preparar al paciente para la muerte. Santiago, en su carta a los cristianos, nos dice que si uno de noso-tros está enfermo que llame al presbítero de la Iglesia para que lo unja con óleo o aceite santo. Y añade que la oración hecha con fe perdonará los pecados del enfermo y lo sanará para que recupere su vida cotidiana.
