THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD JANUARY 6, 2019

“Rejoice in hope, endure in afflic on, persevere in prayer.” (Rom 12:12) We can hope in Christ, endure suffering with Christ and persevere in prayer before Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

A Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year to all!

There will be no adora on Monday, December 31 at 4 pm un l Tuesday, January 2 at 6:30 a.m.

Ministry of the Month: Eucharis c Adora on Did you know that the prac ce of Eucharis c adora on began in Avignon, France on September 11, 1226. To celebrate and give thanks for the victory over the Albigensians, King Louis VII of France asked the bishop of Avignon to have the Blessed Sac-rament exposed in the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The throng of adorers was so great that the bishop decided to have the ado-ra on con nue day and night. During the Middle Ages, many more (of the faithful) began to adore the Blessed Sacrament apart from the Mass. At first, the custom was to worship the host reserved in the tabernacle doors open. Later s ll, the sol-emn exposi on of the host, in a monstrance became the norm.

The prac ce spread through Europe and culminated in the es-tablishment of the Feast of Corpus Chris – La n for “the Body of Christ”- in 1264. The feast itself, now celebrated each June, helped spread the devo on.

It was not un l a er the Council of Trent, however, that per-petual adora on began to develop on a worldwide scale. Dur-ing the Protestant Reforma on, church loo ngs were common, as were desecra ons of the Blessed Sacrament. Faithful Catholics made repara on to God by keeping a loving vigil before Him, around the clock. Perpetual adora on became a symbol of constancy in a vola le age.

Throughout Europe and eventually America, new religious orders arose centered on uninterrupted Eucharis c adora-on. In the years following the Second Va can Council, the devo on began to wane, only to rise again in popularity

with the encouragement of Pope John Paul II.

St. Pope John Paul II opened a Perpetual Adora on in Rome on December 12, 1981, saying that when enough people came before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, abor on would end once and for all forever, there would be peace on earth and the whole world would return to the true Light of the Gospel. He called for prolonged hours of Adora on in every parish, even unceasingly.

In response to this need, Archbishop Jus n Rigali wrote a le er on January 1, 1998, to all the pastors of the Archdio-cese to promote Eucharis c Adora on to all the parishes in hope that there will be an increase of voca ons to the priesthood and consecrated life.

With the blessings of Msgr. Jerome Buchheit, Mrs. Gerry Dolan organized the Perpetual Eucharis c adora on on June 14, 1998 with more than 500 parishioners commi ed. This was followed by the first Corpus Chris procession on June 1, 1999.

June 14, 2018 marked the 20th anniversary of the Perpetual Eucharis c Adora on at Holy Infant. It con nues to flour-ish due to our devoted parishioners.

COME LET US PERSONALLY THANK AND ADORE HIM IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT! There is s ll a need for commi ed and subs tute adorers. Please contact Ricardo & Teresita La’O at 636-391-1997 or 314-520-7088.
