Peace I Leave With You; My Peace I Give To You – As the Church prepares to celebrate the Ascension of Jesus into heaven and the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles at Pentecost, we encounter today’s Gospel which is a source of great life and hope. In the course of this brief passage Jesus speaks of he and the Father dwelling with those who love them and of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, being sent to teach them, and then he bestows his peace on them, telling them not to be troubled or

afraid. The realities this Gospel presents mean a great deal in our own lives as we strive to follow the example of the disciples and be faithful followers of Jesus today. To know that the Lord dwells with us means that we are never alone and always have God’s protection and guidance. To know that the Lord sends His Spirit as our Advocate means that he moves in living and effective ways to provide for us. To know that the Lord bestows his peace upon us means that as we trust in him our anxiety and worry can be no more. All of these gifts are important as the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative continues to take shape in our parishes and groupings. As we strive to do the work in the Lord in light of the gifts he has given us we can trust in his guidance and peace. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

PRESENTING YOUR CHILD FOR BAPTISM Because a child is too young to request the Sacrament of Baptism by his/her own decision, the parents take the serious responsibility for training their child in the ways of the Catholic faith when they request Baptism for their child. That child then has the right to be nurtured in his/her faith life by the whole Catholic community through education and witness. Since Baptism is the primary sacrament of faith and brings one into the community, his/her faith needs the community of believers.

Expectant and new parents are to attend the community of Grouping #210 Pre-Baptism class. The next scheduled date for this class will be Thursday, June 13, 2019, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, in the Maximilian Kolbe Room. Please call the Office for Initiation at 412-276-1011, ext. 225, to register for this or future monthly classes.

CONFIRMATION Please pray for our young men and women who will be Confirmed this Tuesday, May 28, at 7:00 p.m. at Ss. Simon and Jude Church. Many thanks to all who helped to help them in their journey of faith: parents, grandparents, sponsors, priests, catechists, and community. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

Before May, the month of Mary, ends, it makes good sense for us to remember and pray to Mary, our

Mother, under the title of ‘Star of Evangelization’. In this title we recall how she was the first evangelizer as

she carried the Gospel - the good news of her newly conceived child, the Son of God - to her cousin,

Elizabeth, who was also pregnant with Jesus’ cousin, John.

Pope Francis sees Mary as central to the spirit and understanding of the new evangelization, and ended

his encyclical, Evangelii Gaudium (“Joy of the Gospel”) with a longer version of the following prayer. Let’s

make a point to pray it a few times, with meaning and intention, so that we can be conscientiously

following in the path of this Star, aided by her intercession.

Mary, Virgin and Mother, you who, moved by the Holy Spirit, welcomed the word of life in the depths of your humble faith: as you gave yourself completely to the Eternal One, help us to say our own “yes” to the urgent call, as pressing as ever, to proclaim the good news of Jesus. ... ... Star of the New Evangelization, help us to bear radiant witness to communion, service, ardent and generous faith, justice and love of the poor, that the joy of the Gospel may reach to the ends of the earth, illuminating even the fringes of our world. Mother of the living Gospel, wellspring of happiness for God’s little ones, pray for us. Amen. Alleluia!

"...the Gospel has transformed the world, and it is still transforming it,

like a river that waters a great field.”

~ Pope Benedict XVI, 2011

NEW BULLETIN COMING SOON! In our efforts to join together as one parish family, the Catholic Community of Carnegie, Green Tree, and Scott will be combining our three bulletins into one. Beginning on Pentecost Sunday, we will no longer produce the SEAS bulletin “in-house”. While this is much less work for the staff, it now makes our Monday deadline a crucial one. No bulletin articles will be accepted after 11:00 a.m. on Mondays. If you are the liaison for your group or organization, please be sure to adhere to this new guideline. It is preferred, when possible, to submit your news and information the week prior to the publication date. All information should be submitted electronically. For now, you can still use the email: [email protected].

Is that a new logo? Why, yes! It is! Designed by our very talented Rory Mitrik (Youth Minister) this logo takes the images of the three bell towers in our parish grouping, and melds them into one. For thousands of years, church bells have been used to call people to worship. How fitting to use our bell towers now, to call us to worship in unity. Kudos to you, Mr. Mitrik!

Happy Memorial Day to all who serve our country and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Happy Memorial Day to all who have served our country and were willing to

do the same. Happy Memorial Day to the families of those who did pay that price. This is why we observe this holiday...for

you; to show you that we will not forget. May you find comfort and peace through Christ our Lord.
