KELLY HOPPEN + RESOURCE DECORSensual textures are at play in international designer Kelly Hoppen’s collection with Resource Decor, a 100-piece grouping replete with terrifically tactile velvets, leather and linens that please all senses. Launching this fall at retailers—including ABC Carpet & Home and HD Buttercup, as well as online at resourcedecor.com—the collection boasts pieces like the rose gold Miro Etagere and the sexy-yet-sweet Diaz Chest. Encapsulating Hoppen’s characteristic neutral palette, affinity for clean lines and understated opulence, the collaboration was, for the designer, an exercise in creativity: “I was able to let my imagination run free and design pieces I had been dreaming about for years,” shares Hoppen. “I pictured exactly what each piece of furniture would look like and, after some hard work alongside a brilliant workshop and team, we created the collection. I am so happy with the end result—every single piece is a testament to timeless elegance.”

WHAT’S NEW

Two brands swing open new showroom doors this season.

Giving fresh meaning to the old trope, “getting a new lease on life,” Currey & Company (C398) will cut the ribbon on a new 6,400-square-foot showroom. Seeing as the lighting-decor legend hasn’t had a presence at Las Vegas Market since 2008, their August 1 opening is guaranteed to be a star-studded celebration. “Our intention is for the showroom to be a clean and simple backdrop so that the product itself is the star,” says the brand’s creative director, Cecil Adams, of the inspiration behind the space. Don’t miss the unusual detail underfoot: “One thing that’s distinctive is our flooring, which is reclaimed mahogany that we bring over from the Philippines. Our factory there sorts through the floorboards and selects pieces that are still suitable for use. We purposefully make it look like an old floor so it cracks and squeaks when you walk on it.”

Meanwhile, Uttermost (B400) is debuting its sister brand, REVELATION (B420), this market. “While we continue to expand Uttermost’s accent furniture and home accessory collections with over 500 new items, we’ve been working with key designers for our new brand,” shares Mac Cooper, president and CEO. “REVELATION takes us to a new level.” REVELATION by Uttermost will take over a 4,500-square-foot space with architectural details—Cooper calls it a “palatial, open ambiance”—that just so happens to be ideal for debuting dozens of products. The vibe? Neutral meets natural meets glam.

CANDICE OLSON + KRAVET

Designer and HGTV star Candice Olson’s go-to muse isn’t necessarily an industry icon, celebrated artist or legendary pathfinder. “When it comes to palettes, patterns and textures, there is no one who’s had a bigger impact on my work than the greatest architect, designer and artist of all time: Mother Nature!” shares Olson. “Sea, sky, stone, weather, skins, the beauty found in nature provides me with endless inspiration and translates so effortlessly and, naturally, into the home.” That organic connection is apparent in her third collection with Kravet, a four-book group of lifestyle fabrics, her first-ever decorative trim collection and a showroom-exclusive wallpaper.

The trimmings feature ogee medallion and diamond trellis motifs; metallic cork and elegantly beaded designs appear in the wallpaper collection and contemporary-meets-classic treatments of damask and paisley patterns are part of Olson’s fabric designs. “There really are so many jewels in this collection,” says the designer. “It aspires to provide designers with exquisite ingredients to not only create beautiful spaces but ones that are truly personalized reflections of their clients.”

JULIA BUCKINGHAM + FEIZYImagine American Idol, but for the rug industry: Feizy recently scoured the nation in a competition seeking four top designers to create for its Haute Trends Collection. Winners Julia Buckingham, Kerrie Kelly, Michel Boyd and Vegas’s own Jackie Von Tobel debuted initial designs on the showroom floor at High Point this past spring. But their work has since been refined and finalized, and is now ready for a dare-we-say grander debut this Market.

Buckingham, whose prior life as an antiques dealer continues to inform her interiors, says of her work: “Fine gemstones were my muse—the way they reflect light and have an almost ethereal quality about them inspired me, especially designing ‘Hex Brilliant’! It was so fascinating to see how carpet construction works and how we could deal with light reflection, different textures and colors to mimic gemstones. And when is fine jewelry ever a bad thing?”

Sparks fly and magic happens when a talented designer swipes right on a manufacturer—discover some of our favorite predestined pairings.

Market’s movers, shakers and inspiring makers

Shopping list for Market?I love the new rugs designed by Joanna Gaines for Loloi—the patterns are stylized but still organic and have a fresh look that is rooted in historic patterns. Currey & Company’s chain-mail scalloped chandelier also looks really intriguing. For upholstery, the new line by Pinnacle has a great vibe. It feels very Santa Barbara meets midcentury.

Must-see spots in Las Vegas? A few places you shouldn’t miss are: Emergency Arts and their in-house cafe; Beat Coffeehouse and Records; the Funk House for great vintage furniture, prop rentals, lighting; and O Face Doughnuts (delish!). I like to balance my blood sugar with an act of delicious contrition at VegeNation.

Trickiest Market hacks? Be extroverted! Reach out to artisans and makers to really understand their product and processes. There is no better education for product details! This knowledge is key for me when I later recommend product to a client.

Jamie BushJamie Bush + Company | Los Angeles, CA

Most exciting West Coast project? We are finishing up a three-year, full renova-tion/restoration and interior design project of the iconic Butterfly House in Carmel, California. It’s a midcentury landmarked house perched on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific.

Favorite showrooms at Market?Made Goods and Currey & Company.

Shopping list for Market?I’m excited about Dimond Home’s glass console table with sawhorse legs. It reminds me of the old Italian midcentury pieces from the 1960s, which would crop up in stately mansions with modern art and antiques from around Europe. I’m loving the Bistro Table by Four Hands. It’s a riff on the traditional Saarinen Table by Knoll but in a bronze patinated finish.

Must-see spots in Las Vegas? My favorite spots are the Hoover Dam (an art deco masterpiece!); The Stratosphere for the amazing views at night; and The Wynn, because it’s so over the top. My restaurant pick is the elegant Giada—it’s relaxed and has great Italian food. For art, I like visiting Centerpiece Gallery near the Mandarin Oriental.

Mat SandersConsort Design | Los Angeles, CA

Most exciting West Coast project? Right now we’re in the final phase of designing a beach house in Hermosa Beach. It’s a brand-new build so we’ve had our hands in the

design process for over a year. It’s really exciting to see everything finally come together.

Favorite showrooms at Market?Kravet, Brownstone Furniture and Natural Curiosities.

Shopping list for Market?Studio|A Home’s Arco Vessel!

Must-see spots in Las Vegas? Make an appointment to visit the James Turrell installation, hidden above the Louis Vuitton store at CityCenter. Check out the Neon Museum, an outdoor museum that has an amazing collection of neon, including the original Moulin Rouge sign, as well as the Stardust and Golden Nugget signs. And stop by The Golden Tiki—although the indoor lava cove, designated pirate’s lair and leopard-print booths may suggest otherwise—this Chinatown tiki bar is genuinely good, not gimmicky.

Trickiest Market hacks? Keep your eyes open for art everywhere, including hotel lobbies. Most hotels, like the Bellagio and Cosmopolitan, have their own galleries that display touring collections from around the world. The Picasso restaurant at the Bellagio is filled with sculptures, drawings and paintings by the late artist.

Most exciting West Coast project? We’re working on a Spanish Colonial renovation full of beautiful materials, layers and color. Think Frida Kahlo meets Josef Frank, with a twist of California bohemia.

Neon lights, dinging slots and thousands of new products: the visceral stimulation of Las Vegas and Market

can be downright overwhelming. Fear not, newcomers and Market vets alike, for EAL has rallied the West

Coast’s top talent to dish on their sneaky Market hacks (we guarantee you’ve never heard these before!),

what’s trending from new and established brands alike and their favorite spots in and around Sin City.

Trip HaenischTrip Haenisch & Associates | Los Angeles, CA

Most exciting West Coast project? I’m just finishing a 15,000-square-foot board-formed, concrete-and-teak house in Beverly Hills with 180-degree views from downtown to the ocean.

Shopping list for Market?Noir’s Illusion Sideboard and Ave Home’s Carlyle Secretary.

Must-see spots in Las Vegas? There’s a hidden pizza joint at the Cosmopolitan that I love; a speakeasy called the Laundry Room at the Commonwealth in downtown; and, if you drive about an hour from the Strip, there’s Valley of Fire State Park with some amazing rock formations.

Biggest design trend for this fall? Leopard print was never truly out but it’s back again. Kelly green is trending. And black stainless.

Mary McDonaldMary McDonald Inc. | Los Angeles, CA

Most exciting West Coast project? I have been working on a ground-up project for the past three years with the Too Faced Cosmetics moguls, Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson, and it’s really all coming together. I’m looking forward to install next year.

Favorite showrooms at Market?Ave Home, Loloi Rugs, Natural Curiosities, Pheromone and OLY.

Most excited to see at Market? Christopher Guy’s Ariadne Mirror and Four Hands’s Cooper Chandelier.

Must-see spots in Las Vegas? The Four Seasons because there is no casino and the private pool is secluded and has great cocktails. Also, The Shops at Crystals has great international shopping (think: Hermès, Gucci, Tom Ford, Versace, Lanvin). It’s never crowded and has the best salespeople.

Cooper Chandelier Four Hands

Jay Jeffers Jay Jeffers | San Francisco, CA

Most exciting West Coast project? We just completed installation for three model homes in a super-luxury building in Pacific Heights called The Pacific, a game changer for those who want luxury condominium living in the most expensive neighborhood in San Francisco.

Favorite showrooms at Market?Palecek and Four Hands.

Shopping list for Market?I’m a big fan of Kelly Hoppen, so I’m excited to see her line for Resource Decor.

Must-see spots in Las Vegas? I love the Aria Hotel. I’m not much of a gambler, so to be able to bypass the casino level is awesome. I have a home in the Napa Valley and Bouchon is a regular spot; the Bouchon in Vegas is right-on in terms of food.

Biggest design trend for this fall? We seem to be getting away from industrial and reclaimed. Furniture is being refined and it’s all about the details now.

Trickiest Market hacks? Pack for hot weather. Don’t bother with a jacket if you can stand it. Avoid peak times and go to Market either very early or midday. I would much prefer breaking it up into more than one day than try to make it all happen at once.

THANK YOU The Editor at Large happily owes a debt of gratitude and an extra-special “thank you” to our exceptional partners on this season’s Guide:

Timeless Design for the Modern Age

Why spend precious product-sourcing hours getting lost in the labyrinth of Market? This season’s tours assure that designers needn’t waste any time navigating the scene. Follow the leader: each tour is guided by in-the-know industry insiders who have done their due diligence on this season’s launches.

Market’s Ahead of the Curve Editors’ Tours are staffed with names that designers will find familiar from their favorite mastheads: Irene Edwards, editor in chief of Sunset; Michela O’Connor Abrams, president and CEO of DWELL Media; Brielle Ferreira, executive editor of Luxe Interiors + Design; and Victoria de la Camara, style editor of Rue Magazine. Each editor has surveyed Market to find the best of the best and will guide designers through the show, nailing the trends, taking questions and delving deep into this season’s launches.

Another option is Market’s new Destination Tours—intimate, expert-led walks through Las Vegas Market, exploring various themes. Juried + Curated, for example, is perfect for those looking to nab top luxury collections out of Europe and Australia, while Fresh focuses on millennial and trend-driven brands.

Check out our Events on page 11 for handy deets on all tours.

Artisanal LA, a favorite regional destination of LA foodies, is now popping up in Vegas—and it’s offering more than just incredible edibles.

The community collective–known for throwing seasonal shows and shops that celebrate local, sustainable products—is bringing 40 makers from the City of Angels to the City of Sin. These creatives, many of whom are as yet undiscovered, will unveil brands spanning home goods, garden and kids categories. Artisanal LA founder Shawna Dawson picks a few of her favorite pieces that designers can find at this outpost.

ALIBI INTERIORS“They utilize reclaimed coastal woods from mossy fences, old floorboards and marine wood to make everything from headboards and coffee tables to wood frames and shelves. Everything is made by hand in Santa Cruz and is moderately priced. This is the home decor embodiment of coastal California living.”

DISTRICT LA“They are one of our Artisanal LA alums and made-in-Los Angeles favorites; we love District LA for their candles and prints. They’ll be introducing a new line of hand-sewn pillows. Their boho fabrics, made of hemp and cotton, are quintessential California. We’ll be snagging the Nita and Dakota pillows for our collections, stat.”

POST STUDIO“Their mod, colorful trays and coasters are always favorites at our shows. The colorful stripes and geo patterns are crowd-pleasers, but here in the office, we’re kind of obsessed with their new line of galaxy patterns—especially when we have galaxy donuts [the trending L.A. treat] to serve on them. Dreamy.”

Find the fun in Pavilion 1.

It’s STYLEBEAT blogger Marisa Marcantonio’s

job to track the trends before they’re

trending. What’s on the horizon this Market?

“Think chic geometry, emboldened lines

and indigenous influences. Strong linear

elements and graphic, geometric shapes and

forms are dominant trends we are going to see more of. Sharp

angles and an interplay of shapely components—such as shards of

glass and tribal patterns—stand out in these eye-catching designs,

influenced by cubist artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, while softer,

more rounded pieces provide a clever contrast.”

1 / ELBA CHANDELIERMade Goods, B349Made Goods’s vintage-inspired take on a sputnik chandelier, the Elba is made of large discs comprised of luminous kabibe shell. Varying dimensions and diameters create a dynamically abstract feel. The lighting is more atmospheric than functional, setting a modern mood for dining rooms, foyers and beyond. madegoods.com

2 / BELASCO SIDE TABLENoir, B305Designed with stability and strength in mind, the white marble Belasco Side Table epitomizes Noir’s signature look defined by premier craftsmanship and a dedication to designing the old-fashioned way, with a pen, paper and true vision. noirfurniturela.com

3 / DECOR DER03Nourison, C112, C123This expressive, hand-hooked piece embodies luxury floor-covering brand Nourison’s mission to create “timeless design for the modern age.” Fit for elegant living spaces of all kinds, this durable rug is available in an array of dimensions. nourison.com

4 / POPOVA MIRRORBungalow 5, C455Czech cubists believed every object has an energy that can only be freed by splitting the horizontal and vertical planes. The Popova Mirror exemplifies that philosophy, revealing a dramatic take on cubism’s approach. The mirror celebrates the movement’s destabilized, crystalline shapes, sharp points and pyramidal forms. bungalow5.com

5 / GRAY SIDE TABLE, KELLY HOPPEN COLLECTIONResource Decor, C401Clean lines, neutral tones and an East-West design philosophy define British icon Kelly Hoppen’s new collection for Resource Decor. Case in point? Her Gray Side Table, with an organic French-oak base that adds both warmth and contrast to the table’s high-gloss, white-lacquer top. resourcedecor.com/international

6 / DOUBLE DOT BLACK, KATE SPADE NEW YORKKravet, A124Inspired by iconic patterns and colors, Curiosities by kate spade new york for Kravet

presents exciting and playfully sophisticated designs. The bold Double Dot Black stands out in a collection of prints, weaves and trims, each revealing a

classic story through crisp, bright colors and patterns emblematic of the company’s signature style. kravet.com

7 / CASEY BED, PRIMITIVE COLLECTION Four Hands, A140 Gradual curves soften the edges of this hand-forged iron bed, where

hard materials take on more organic shapes to create something new. Slightly irregular swoops keep the design airy and light, while open

framing offers a sense of calm. fourhands.com

8 / MERLE TABLE LAMPNoir, B305Brass is a trending material for Noir, and what chicer application could there be than the Merle Table Lamp? An example of the brand’s quality artisanship and craftsmanship, the statement piece, comprised of metal and glass, features an antique brass finish. noirfurniturela.com
