Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

From January 26th to the 28th our Diocese of Virginia held its 222nd annual convention. Kathy Jimerson and I attended as representa-tives of the parish. This year's theme was “Walk in Love.” This idea was repeated throughout the convention.

A convention has two components. One is the business of the dio-cese. That is made up of resolutions, the passing of a budget, and the election of representatives to various groups and committees. This part of the convention went incredibly smoothly.

The other part is centered around fellowship of all the people gath-ered to represent the parishes of the diocese. This was done by sto-ries from across the diocese being shared. Presentations and ser-mons from our Bishops and keynote speaker Bishop Wright. And from the countless conversations people of the diocese had with each other.

For myself, it was my first convention in the Diocese of Virginia, and my first time representing all of you. It is truly a unique and uplifting experience to see so many members of our Church together. It is a concrete reminder of just how big the living body of Christ is. A body, which is made up of so many different people from so many different walks of life. The most impactful thing I took away from convention, was the knowledge that we are all members of some-thing much larger than any one parish. In fact, greater than any one diocese. The Christian faith has existed for some two thousand years, practiced by countless souls. It unites over two billion people in a shared discipleship to Jesus Christ.

What we do as a parish, in the Diocese of Virginia, in the Episcopal Church, is a part of something that far excessed any one person or group of individuals. Though our faithful worship and our good works in the community, the wonders of God can be shared with everyone. What we do together, is a vital part of God’s work in the world.

Large Print Prayer Books

We now have copies of the complete Book of Common Prayer in large print that is available to anyone who needs the larger print. They are on the side table in the narthex.

Stewardship Committee: The Stewardship Committee met January 11, 2017 to discuss the stewardship campaign results and prepare

the information for the vestry. As of January 23rd ———- 60 pledge cards has been turned in. For Current

expenses pledges are $173,902 and Building Fund is $22,050 for a total of $195,952. The total of pledge

received was provided to the vestry so they could vote on the budget for 2017.

Stewardship Hope and Praise

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving

thanks to His name.

Hebrews 13:15

In the Old Testament, Israelite men were required to go up to Jerusalem three times each year to worship

God at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering (Exodus 23:14-19).

It was their way of keeping hope alive and maintaining their relationship with God. They would offer sacri-

fices, worship, and return home with a renewed spirit.

In the New Testament, we are no longer are required to offer animal sacrifices. Jesus Christ, Lamb of God,

became our sacrifice. So instead of burnt offerings and incense we should be offering our thanks to God.

Maybe this is a kind of sacrifice; “the sacrifice of praise to God.” However we should not wait for just three

times a year but often and even throughout each day to offer thanks and praise. As we thank God for His

blessings of provision and protection in our life, we never lose sight of Him as our hope in all things.

What can you thank God for on this day? Make the sacrifice of praise a continual practice in your life as you

remember that God is your hope in all things.

Reader Training

On February 26th at 9:30 am, we will be holding a training for lay readers. If you are a long-time reader, this will be a chance to get a refresher on the im-portance of what lay readers do in our worship, and also on how to prepare before reading. If you have never been a reader before, but are interested, this will be a chance to learn about what it means to be a reader during our Sun-day Worship. If you are not sure being a reader is for you, but are still curious, please come. Attending the training is not a commitment to joining the reader team. If you have and questions, please ask Father Andrew.

Parish Prayer List Starting this month, we will be changing how the parish prayer list is updated. At the beginning of every month, we will be starting with a new list. That means names will be taken off every month auto-matically. This will help to ensure that the prayer list is current and up to date with the needs and concerns of the congrega-tion. If your need will require long term prayers, please let Lucy know, and she will keep your submitted name on th list until told otherwise. If you have any questions, please see Father Andrew.

OUTREACH LUNCHES – 2017

This is our 18th year of providing lunches for area shelters the first Saturday of each month. We also provide lunches on the 5th -Sat. in April. All items needed will be provided ahead of meeting at 8:30 am. in the Parish Hall to prepare the lunches, then someone on the team delivers them before 11 am. Volunteers are divided into teams, with at least one person be-ing the ‘driver’…to deliver the lunches to the 3 shelters. The teams rotate on an equal basis. We now have 5 teams, 3 which serve 3 assigned months, the other two only twice this year. Please consider donating an hour several times a year for this ongoing mission. Contact Gray Corbett if you want to join in this ministry at 346-8910. The following are the estab-lished teams:

Red Team (5 including driver) – Cory Isemann (team leader –519-7267), Shirley Hughson, Melba Shumaker, Jan Lawrence, and Diana Stone.

Yellow Team (5 including driver) – Jean Riddick (team leader – 264-0935), Paul and Debbie Jones, Nancy Sonne, and Patty White.

Green Team (5 including driver) – Gray Corbett (team leader – 346-8910) Frosine Corbett, B. J. Mills, Mary Sam Abernathy and Ann Henderson.

Vestry Team (need 5/6 & at least 1 driver) Contact either the Jr. or Sr. Warden if you can/cannot be present to help!

Chapter 4 (need 5/6 & at least 1 driver) – Tillie Freeze (team leader – 672-3211). Please con-tact if you can/cannot be present to help!

Shrine Mont Volunteers Needed! Shrine Mont Volunteer Work Weekend—April 7—9

Volunteers needed to spend a fun and giving weekend to help get Shrine Mont ready to open for the new year. Room and board provided.

Projects to suit all skills and strength levels. Must be at least 16 years old. Sign up quickly, only 125 volunteers allowed.

Yard Sale—-May 13th

The Shrine Mont committee will be hosting the yearly yard sale on Saturday, May 13th from 8:00 AM—Noon.

As you begin your spring cleaning bring your ‘treasure donations’ to the church marked ‘Yard Sale’. They can be stored in the back of the youth group room for now.

If you need assistance for larger items, please contact Aggie Gal-lagher or Patty White.

The money we raise will be used to pay for the parish youth to at-tend the annual Parish Retreat in October.
