i n itia l appointmentWe know that the key to a successful LUMINEERS case is a great Dental Assistant, so this instructional guide was developed just for you.

You play a key role in LUMINEERS case presentation and acceptance. This guide

walks you through what is needed at the chair, from the initial appointment to placement

and finishing. It also provides tips and tools to make the process go smoothly for you and

your dentist.

By offering LUMINEERS to your patients, you help them gain a new beautiful smile

while inspiring self-confidence and happiness. Cerinate® is the only porcelain system that

combines the three key elements of a great veneer—thinness, strength and beauty—and

demonstrates clinical success through over 20 years of evidence-based research.

Once your patient is scheduled to receive a LUMINEERS Smile, you will significantly influence the LUMINEERS experience. Here’s your guide to success:

Step 1: Have the patient fill out the Smile Evaluation form to record and help open

dialogue about the patient’s expectations. Don’t have a form—visit denmat.com/downloads

for a copy.

Step 2: Determine the shape the patient prefers. Do they want round? Square? A

combination of the two?

Step 3: Take accurate pictures of full-face and cheek-retracted smiles. Make sure to

include side profiles.

Step 4: Determine the shade the patient prefers. Hold actual shade chips to the teeth.

Once the color is determined, take a photo with the shade chip in the photo. If the patient is

skeptical, digital imaging or a wax-up may be helpful.

Step 5: Take an accurate impression. A great impression is key to a successful case. (See

Impression Technique at right)

Step 6: Visit www.lumineersdds.com, click “log in” at the top right, and log in. If you don’t

have a login, click “Request an Account.” The Studio Web Portal allows you to:

• Reducedelays

• Getfasterturnaround

• Submitformsandphotosinstantly

• Viewandtrackcases

• Downloadandprintforms

Step 7: Ship the case to the DenMat Lab. Wrap all pieces individually to ensure that no

rubbing or chipping occurs during shipping.

1 Check stock tray on patient for proper fit—coat—adhesive.

2 Using heavy or monophase PVS impression material, fill tray from back

to front, keeping nozzle submerged in impression material as you load

the tray.

3 Use light-body impression material to cover all teeth that will be treated.

Start on buccal, then lingual or palatal, then occlusal surfaces.

4 Seat tray and wait for material to set.

5 Remove tray from mouth and check impression.

Follow these simple steps and placement will be smooth.

Preparation prior to placement:

1 One hour prior to the patient arriving, prepare for

placement. The most critical step is the tray set-up,

shown in the photo.

Note: If you are bonding to any existing porcelain

restorations, be sure to include Microetcher and

PorceLock® in your set-up.

Tip: Label disposable dappen dishes to avoid confusion, especially when bonding to porcelain, because you will

have four different dishes: Tenure A/B, Tenure S, Porcelain Conditioner and Cerinate Prime®. Materials that have

been refrigerated should be taken out one hour prior to use.

2 Try the LUMINEERS on the model.

Note: When placed on the stone model,

LUMINEERS will have a loose fit to allow for

the Ultra-Bond restorative.

3 Lay out the LUMINEERS on a paper towel.

Treat the LUMINEERS with Porcelain

Conditioner for 30 seconds.

4 Rinse under water and dry well.

5 Apply Cerinate® Prime to the LUMINEERS

for 30 seconds.

6 Blow Cerinate Prime thin from a distance.

7 Place LUMINEERS back into the provided

case box in their proper slots. Keep covered

from light until ready to bond.

1 Polish the teeth with Porcelain Polishing Paste, using a prophy polishing

cup and floss.

2 The doctor will next use Ultra-Bond® Try-In Paste for final shade verification.

Squeeze Ultra-Bond Try-In Paste directly into the LUMINEERS®.

Tip: Have multiple shades of Try-In available.

3 Hand LUMINEERS to the doctor with the LUMIgrip™. We suggest trying in

2-4 LUMINEERS to get the desired shade.

4 Hand your patient a mirror and let them select the desired shade.

5 After shade has been determined, remove LUMINEERS. Wipe off excess

paste using Tenure S Dab-Eze®. At this point you will need to work quickly

to clean out the Try-In Paste from the LUMINEERS and teeth. Once clean,

apply a layer of Tenure S to the teeth and LUMINEERS and blow thin.

6 Polish the teeth with Porcelain Polishing Paste, using a prophy polishing

cup and floss.

7 Syringe Paint-On Dental Dam on the lingual side of the interproximals

covering the gums and teeth thoroughly. Light-cure for 3 seconds each tip

width. This will aid in clean-up, saving you and the doctor time.

8 When the doctor is ready, place cheek retractors in patient’s mouth. The

doctor will start the procedure by air-drying the teeth that will be bonded.

At this point, you will need to be ready with Etch ’N’ Seal® and a brush.

9 While the doctor is brushing on the etchant, start mixing equal amounts of

Tenure® A and Tenure B together. Rinse the etchant and dry the tooth well.

Hand doctor the dappen dish filled with Tenure A/B mixture along with

a brush. Apply 5 coats of Tenure A/B with 3 sweeps of saliva ejector.

10 Remove a skube prefilled with Tenure S. Hand to doctor to apply one coat of

Tenure S to tooth.

Tip: Prior to placing the mixing tip on the Ultra-Bond syringe, Step 11,

extrude out a 1/4-inch of material on paper.

11 Load each LUMINEERS (one at a time) with Ultra-Bond Plus. It’s better to

have too much than not enough. Hand the LUMINEERS to the doctor with

the LUMIgrip™.

Tip: Call out the tooth of the LUMINEERS that you are handing to the doctor

to avoid any confusion; for example, “Right central” or “Left central”.

12 After each LUMINEERS is placed, have the Sapphire® Light ready with the

2 mm tacking tip attached and programmed at 2 seconds. Do not press on or

touch LUMINEERS while curing. Continue placement of remaining units, tac

cure as you go.

13 While the doctor is removing excess Ultra-Bond and checking the

LUMINEERS, change the Sapphire to a 9 mm tip and program to 5 seconds.

Doctor will next cure all LUMINEERS in place. Do not press on or touch

LUMINEERS while curing.

1 Clean-up any additional Ultra-Bond cement using the

Polishing Cup (G).

2 The doctor will first use diamonds to start contouring

the LUMINEERS. Mosquito Interproximal Diamond (F) will be used to remove the porcelain ledge. Use

Mosquito Interproximal Diamond (F) to refine the

margins along the interproximal area.

3 Excess Ultra-Bond can be removed from glazed

porcelain with the Schure 349.

4 The doctor will use the Football Diamond (E) on the

lingual to finish the incisal wrap and adjust high spots

or length.

5 Hand the doctor articulating paper to check occlusion.

6 Using a rocking motion, the doctor will then start to

open the contacts with the CeriSaw. Make sure the

CeriSaw is securely fastened .

7 The doctor will go back through those contacts with

the CeriSander.

8 Use the 12 Fluted Carbide Bur (C)—and then the

Clean-up Carbide Bur (D) to polish where the glaze

was removed.

9 Floss and make sure there are no catches or snags

where contacts were opened. Polish your patient’s

LUMINEERS with Porcelain Polishing Paste and

the Polishing Cup (G). Use side of cup and follow

the doctor with high speed suction.

Splash® VPS Material Super hydrophilic impression material that gives you the precision and speed you need for accurate impressions, time after time. Patients love the wild-berry fl avor.

Vanilla BiteVanilla Bite is a medium viscosity VPS bite-registration material that features a mousse like consistency with a delicious Vanilla scent and a Shore A hardness of 90. It is engineered to deliver a dimensionally stable, accurate and rigid bite registration and offers a super-fast set of 55 seconds.

Cerinate Prime® & ConditionerBonding agent and etchant to bond porcelain to natural tooth structure.

Paint-On Dental DamPaint-On Dental Dam, a light-cure resin paste, will help protect gingival tissue from chemical agents. Ideal for use prior to bonding. Syringe Paint-On Dental Dam on the lingual side of gums and teeth to make clean-up faster.

Ultra-Bond® Plus Try-In PasteUltra-Bond Plus Try-In Paste is a resin-based, non-setting paste. It permits shade simulation of fully-cured Ultra-Bond Plus in porcelain veneer/crown cementation procedures.

Etch ‘N’ Seal®

Etch ‘N’ Seal combines a 25% phosphoric acid with 0.5% aluminum oxalate so you can etch enamel and condition dentin at the same time. The combined use of Etch ‘N’ Seal and the Tenure® Multi-Purpose Bonding System results in the formation of a dentin hybrid layer that can reduce dentin permeability, protect against acid attack, and decrease sensitivity.

Porcelock®

PorceLock is the perfect companion for porcelain and crown-and-bridge repair. For repair of porcelain surfaces, the use of PorceLock and Cerinate Prime® with Ultra-Bond allows you to achieve strong and reliable intraoral bonds. PorceLock’s gel viscosity and needle tip dispensing lets you place the gel only where you want it. PorceLock creates bond strengths three to fi ve times greater than treatments using silane alone. It achieves bond strengths approaching those of etched enamel after a 3-5 minute treatment.

Tenure® Multi-Purpose Bonding SystemWorry-free bonding! For more than 20 years, the Tenure System has demonstrated a proven clinical record of high bond strengths, excellent retention, and signifi cant reduction of microleakage and post-operative sensitivity. These characteristics can be attributed to the formation of a hybrid zone, which instantly eliminates root sensitivity.

Cerinate® Shade Modifi cation System II Prevent shade remakes and save time and money. The Cerinate Shade Modifi cation System II can be used alone or mixed with a light-cure composite resin to modify a tint. Tints can be successfully layered. When used with Ultra-Bond® or Ultra-Bond Plus, Shade Modifi ers will enhance the polychromatic appearance of LUMINEERS.

Ultra-Bond® Plus Restorative Resin CementUltra-Bond is an ADA Type II Restorative. Ultra-Bond is proven to prevent cracking/crazing and pop-offs. LUMINEERS®, bonded with Ultra-Bond and Tenure®, creates a wear resistant, non-microleaking, highly esthetic restoration that is clinically proven in ongoing studies to last over 20 years. Available in Syringeable or Powder-Liquid formulations.

LUMINEERS® Finishing KitTools that make dentistry faster, easier and better! This all-inclusive fi nishing system is the only one of its kind available to the dental profession. These simple tools save you time and are more comforting to the patient.

“As a licensed dental hygienist, I heard about LUMINEERS when they were just starting to hit the market, targeting our dental magazines. I waited and it was worth it. I tell everyone how great a product and service LUMINEERS are. Love, love, love my smile!” —Mary Lagattuta , Dental Hygienist

“As a dental assistant patient, I am still pleased with my LUMINEERS. They were placed 12 years ago to close some spacing and give me a brighter smile. They still look great! We have great confidence when using LUMINEERS since our patients can simply look at my smile to see lasting results!”

“For years I wanted to change my smile, but I didn’t want my teeth cut down as done in our practice. Thanks to LUMINEERS, I was able to have a new smile for myself, and provide a new option for our patients.”

“I would like to take a minute and tell you how much I LOVE my LUMINEERS. I have no more sensitivity on my front teeth and I can eat anything that I want, including apples, which I haven’t been able to bite into since I was a kid.”

“We love placing LUMINEERS now! It’s more rewarding than watching such devastation to the teeth.”
