MASS INTENTIONS

Weekend Mass Attendance Count His eminence, Cardinal Collins has requested that a mass attendance count be conducted on the weekends of October 18-19 and 25-26. and it will take place immediately after the homily (during the creed and prayer of the faithful) so as to allow a more accurate count-ing of those present.

Capital Campaign Monthly Collection Next Sunday Nov. 2nd, we have a second col-lection for the capital campaign. We remind the parishioners of St. Jude that your contribu-tion helps to keep our Church Building in good condition. Thank you for your support.

All Souls Masses November 2nd is the Day of the “Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed” and alt-hough it falls on a Sunday, all masses will be dedicated for the

Repose of the Souls in Purgatory. “All Souls envelopes” will be collected after mass. We ask that they are deposited inside the box in front of the Book of Life. Masses for All Souls will be booked through the remainder of this

year and next in order to pray for those whose names are written on the envelopes as well as in the Book of Life. Please avoid using these envelopes for regular Sunday offertory. These are intentions which will need to be satisfied and are not considered part of the offertory.

All Souls Mass at Catholic Cemeteries All Catholic Cemeteries will celebrate the an-nual All Souls day mass on Saturday Novem-ber 8th at 2:00pm.

Food Drive “A community that shares makes a difference” We ask the community to please help us to help the poor in our community. We are still in need of non-perishable food, please leave your donations in the box located at the entrance of the church with the sign “Thank you for helping the poor and the needy”. Monetary donations are also wel-come. You can leave them at the office. May God

Bless you for all your generosity.

Volunteers Risk Management Please take a moment to fill out a volunteer form to let us know if you are presently volun-teering in any capacity whatsoever. The forms can be found at the entrance of the church.

The greatest commandment is clear: “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart.” The second greatest commandment is equally clear: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” God does not fail at love. God waits. God says to each of us, “how wonderful that you are learning!” God says, “I care for every person on earth.” And then says to you or me: “you are my beloved. I am at your side as you learn to open to me and to others.” Loving our neighbor means more than being kind to our friends and relatives, or to the person who lives next door. Loving one’s neighbor means doing right by any widow or orphan, seeing that the

hungry are fed and the homeless sheltered, that the poor have their basic needs met, that the young are edu-cated and the old are cared for. To do less is to fail in our love for neighbor and keep us from singing with joy: “I love you, Lord, my strength.”

October is a very special month for our parish as we have the blessing of celebrating the Feast of our Patron St. Jude on October 28th. The solemn mass will be at 7:00pm On the weekend October 25-26 we will be praying the novena during all the masses . HELP US PREPARE FOR THIS DAY:

Also, we ask all parishioners to join us in put-ting together our social which will take place after the solemn mass on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00pm. Celebrate with us by bringing a plate of food to share with the community as we have done in the past.

We need: finger foods, cheese trays, vege-table trays, sweets, cookies, desserts, bottled water, pop, juice, disposable plates, cutlery and cups, napkins, etc.

Please bring the food to the par ish hall on Tuesday, October 28 starting after the 8am mass.

Non-food items can be brought before hand to the parish office.

Setting up and Cleaning up: If you wish to help with the setting up and cleaning up, please call Doris Dudley at the parish office.

The 2014 Annual Gala Tickets are now available after all weekend Masses and during the week through the parish office. We encourage everyone to help us achieve our goal of 350 tickets. Buy your own and get your friends and family to buy one from you. Take some to sell and be a part the success.

October 26, 2014

ShareLife would like to inform our Parish community that the donations re-ceived from St. Jude’s Parish during 2014 totaled $12,261.00 that helped to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in our communities. Thank You for all your support and for being a caring community.

Through CNEWA, you can build up the Church, affirm human dignity, alleviate poverty, encourage dialogue and inspire hope. For more information visit www.cnewa.ca/web/mec or phone 1-866-322-4441.

Municipal Elections A municipal election will be held on Mon-day, October 27, 2014. All Catholics are strongly encouraged to exercise their demo-cratic right to vote. To help us all get to know the candidates for Catholic School Board Trustee, Cardinal Collins has given permission for candidates to distribute litera-ture to parishioners departing Mass on week-ends from September 27/28 to October 25/26. We hope you’ll take the time to get to know those seeking elected office. To ensure your vote for Catholic School Trustee, at the polling booth, verify that you are registered as a separate school supporter. If your sup-port status is incorrect ask for an Application to Amend Voters' List.

Questions for Reflection:

How do you repay God’s love for you?

Are you an example of God’s love in your community?

First Communion Session One Group 1 had its First Session Saturday 25

Group 2 will be Saturday, November 1, 2014 10:00am - 12:00pm

Altar Servers At St. Jude’s Children who have made their first communion are welcome to join the Altar Servers ministry. All you need to do is sign up in the office and begin to serve right away. Altar servers are trained as they serve. We ask that your child arrives 20 minutes before the mass he or she wishes to serve. The first few masses they only observe and gradually they are trained by other experienced Altar Servers.

Confirmation Registration for Confirmation has begun for those who attend-ed the Orientation Sessions. Registrations must be brought to the Parish Office only (not the school). If you missed the Orientation, you are asked to call the office to speak to the pastor for further assistance.

Adult Confirmation/First Communion This year we are accepting adults (18 years of age and up) who never celebrated their First Communion and/or Confir-mation to consider joining a preparation course. If the demand is there we will organize a program to assist you in the recep-tion of these sacraments. Please contact the office to fill out an inquiry form.

Upcoming Work at St Jude’s We have a number of projects up-coming that we need assistance with – either by the donation of time, materials or both. Have a look at the list below and let the office know how you can help – we can’t

do it without YOU!

Refinishing the floors of the church: Removal and re-install of pews; Removal of carpet and vinyl tile; Grinding of floor Sealing floor with epoxy.

Painting: We have many areas of the build-ing - inside and out - that are in need of painting. In some cases the walls are going

to need to be washed or treated first due to past water issues. -we need donations of paint and cleaning materials such as the TSP cleaner, drop sheets and plastic for covering items, paint-er’s tape, rolls, brushes, and paint trays

Constructing – Carpentry and Drywall: We have some projects involving putting up metal studs, drywall, tape, mud and sanding.

Caulking work: Many of our windows and door frames need the caulking replaced.

Pipe Wrap: We have heating and water pipes that still need to be insulated.

Tile work: We have areas where both vinyl and ceramic tile needs to be repaired or re-

placed.

Masonry: Some of our brickwork need tuck pointing, some exterior walls need attention. We’ll need bricks, mortar and someone who is a brick layer for this work

Electrical: *We have lights to put in, others to move around, and wiring needing to be done for various projects.

Security & Life Safety: As you’ve seen from the signs on the doors, we’ve had to imple-ment some controls around our accessibility. It has always been in the plans to improve our security. We’re also going to be replac-ing our fire alarm system.
