From Our Pastor
A Deep Encounter
Why are our relationships so often superficial? Because we keep Jesus out. We may laugh and have a good time together, while we in reality exist next to each other. We only encounter the surface, which is why we, in the midst of a happy “get-together,” can feel so very lonely. We often relate only to the bodies, intelligence, or feelings of one another—very seldom do we relate to one another’s inner depths. It is difficult for people to discover their innermost being without the assistance of another. We all need brothers or sisters who speak to our depth from their own depth. When this happens, it is God’s life in the other that speaks to God’s life in us. Deep within each one of us something indestructible is left of the divine life we are created to mirror. It is at this depth we can truly meet the other. The more we let God’s life blossom in us, the easier we encounter it in our neighbor. As Jesus said: “No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6). If Jesus lives in us, we will recognize him in the gaze of our brother or sister, and—in each other—we will recognize him even more.

Weekly Reflection
It is not too late to sign-up for a Fall 6-Week Small Group Scripture Study. Join your fellow parishioners to discuss life and faith, reflect on God’s word together, and pray for and with one another. Please complete and turn in an “Interest Card” located on the Evangelical Catholic Kiosk located in the church narthex - or - for more information please contact Kris Fischer our Director of Evangelization and Adult Education at [email protected]
Ever wonder why Catholics change postures so much at Mass, i.e. stand, kneel, and sit...or why we bless ourselves with water entering or leaving the church? Come have your questions answered at one of five (5) “TEACHING MASSES” that will be offered this Fall beginning MONDAY, OCTOBER 21ST from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Main Church. Though not an actual Mass, each session is a stand alone and repeating presentation that will go into greater depth on how the Mass is an “exchange of gifts”, both human and Divine, and how each of us can better prepare and enter this great “Mystery of our Faith”. What a great blessing it was to welcome over 600 parishioners who attended the four (4) Teaching Masses that I offered last year. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, or would like to refresh your memory, please join one of the following days/times:
MONDAY, OCTOBER 21ST: 6:00 pm—7:15 pm
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22ND: 4:30 pm—5:45 pm & 6:00 pm—7:15 pm WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23RD: 6:30 pm—7:15 pm
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH: 5:00 pm—6:15 pm

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time “For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of
power and love and self-control.” 2 TIMOTHY 1:7 Many of us compartmentalize our Faith, we bring it out only when we attend Mass or when we attend a parish event. Being a good steward requires discipline and striving to put God first in everything, all the time. The next time you are at a neighborhood party, at work or out shopping, would your actions signal to others that you are a good and faithful servant of our Lord?

Sharing Sunday is a new fellowship opportunity for parishioners to bring a food item to share with each other. Make or buy a baked good, fruit tray, or whatever you like. Simply drop off your food item downstairs on the tables in the Fellowship Hall before Mass and stay after Mass to enjoy time together, then take your dish home when you leave. It's that easy.
Whether you bring something to share or not, we hope you come and enjoy what others have brought and take advantage of this opportunity to enrich our parish family.
