DESCRIPTION

Slides from the second part of Katy Campbell's Ways of Knowing presentation at TLt 2009 in Saskatoon.http://www.tlt2009.ca/all-sessions/ways-of-knowing-ii-cultures-of-design.htmlAbstractHow do instructional designers around the world use design to make a difference, socially, locally and globally? In other words, are there social and political purposes for design that are culturally based? Just as there are different learning cultures, we think that there may be different cultural models of instructional design. In October 2008 a team that included Dr. Heather Kanuka (University of Alberta) and Dr. Rick Schwier (University of Saskatchewan) travelled to Singapore for a two-day symposium during which we explored the notion of instructional design cultures from different cultural perspectives. Eight countries were represented: as a group we considered the implications of culture on instructional design, and culturally-based ways of knowing and practice. This session will share some of the issues we identified and a plan for moving ahead on this pilot project.
