Sometimes we dont want to face reality. The reality is that not very many people in todays world want to visit a church. The statistics reveal that even former church attendees mark their census ballots in the none[no church affiliation] category. And the New Atheists even proclaim that Christianity is literally harmful to our culture. Yet, we keep going on as if nothing has happened. As if there had been no changes in our culture and no significant alterations to our church. But that is not the reality we face. Things have changed and sometimes weve been part of the problem. Just ask yourself how much you and we resemble the early church that Jesus launched. Do we have a deep level love for our com- munity? Is our compassion so selfless that it makes an indelible impression on our city? The first century church sure did. They loved their cities and their commu- nities and they took the message of Jesus to the people. With basically no Bibles, no status, and no hearing, the church exploded with growth. What did they know that we dont? What did they do that we dont? What made their faith so compelling, so defensible, and so irresistible? Sometimes we don’t want to face reality. The reality is that not very many people in today’s world want to visit a church. The statistics reveal that even former church attendees mark their census ballots in the “none” [no

church affiliation] category. And the New Atheists even proclaim that Christianity is literally harmful to our culture.

Yet, we keep going on as if nothing has happened. As if there had been no

changes in our culture and no significant alterations to our church. But that is not the reality we face. Things have changed and sometimes we’ve been part of the problem. Just ask yourself how much you and we resemble the

early church that Jesus launched. Do we have a deep level love for our com-munity? Is our compassion so selfless that it makes an indelible impression on our city?

The first century church sure did. They loved their cities and their commu-

nities and they took the message of Jesus to the people. With basically no Bibles, no status, and no hearing, the church exploded with growth. What did they know that we don’t? What did they do that we don’t? What made

their faith so compelling, so defensible, and so irresistible? How can we create an irresistible church right here in the 61752? Attend church the next few weeks and find out…

As the saying goes, “April showers…”. It’s not lost on too many that the weather has

been “springy” and warm, but on the wet side of the spectrum this season so far. But

I’m grateful for the change in seasons, I’ve been longing for warm weather for some

time now (I guess I’m getting old). As Easter is behind us and May is upon us, we really

are in a season of change. As graduation and summer plans start ramping up, a school

year and those events begin to close. The hope we have from that day just over a week

ago can wane if we let it, but I pray that it will blossom as trees begin to leaf out and

farmers will soon be able to get into the fields. I’m looking forward to seeing what God

has in store for his people here. I hope your week is beginning well and you are pursuing

God and the hope he offers.

This summer is a mission trip summer in the cycle of the youth calendar. It will be a lit-

tle out of the ordinary for those used to the West Coast/East Coast schedule of the last

decade. On June 20th, we will travel down to Springfield to work with Inner City Mission.

We will have more details out about this soon, but if you are interested in joining this

effort, put it on your calendar now, especially if you have carpentry, organizational, and

people skills.

The 2019 Baccalaureate service will take place at the United Methodist Church on May

12th at 6:00 pm. Come and join in this ceremony honoring our graduates on their

achievement and support them in prayer as they begin their next chapter in life. Also, on

a related topic, if you have a grad in your family, whether 8th grade, high school or col-

lege, and you haven’t yet contacted the office, would you please help us out and make

sure we are aware of their status? Thanks again.

This Fort Myers, FL based stamp ministry gives used postage stamps new life in a way that bene-fits children who otherwise might not hear the Gospel. Income from the sale of these stamps

America, Spain and the US to teach Bible stories to children, sharing Jesus’ love for them. As of March 30th, $7,000 has been generated in 2019.
