It then became the route for the expansion of the nation that was tobecome the USA.

The Military and the Mountain Men followed the route, then the covered wagons pushedcivilisation westward. The steel horse then followed as they laid down the railway tracksand finally came the motor vehicle.

It is commonly called the Main Street of America due to the fact that it was literally the

main street for the many hundreds of towns it passed through, traversing diverse country-side from the plains & fields in Illinois, through the rolling hills of Missouri, High Plains ofOklahoma and Texas, then down into the desert areas of New Mexico and Arizona andfinally to the low hot desert of the Mojave.
