All about money Money is anything that is
exchanged for goods or services
In the past, people used seashells and rocks as money
What is the problem with this sort of money?
How is the money we use today more convenient?
Grand resort of bygone days• Europe Hotel was
preferred by the rich and famous
• Located in the heart of the Civic District (can you find out exactly where it is?
• Established in 1857, later closed in 1932
• In 1939, the Supreme Court Building was built in its place
The problem with ageing• Ageing population
occurs when average age of citizens rises over the years (how do you find the average age of Singaporeans?)
• Our fertility rate is 1.2 (what does that mean? Is that a good or bad thing?)
Stuck to a bad habit• Cigarettes contain
nicotine, which makes smoking highly addictive
• Nicotine changes the balance of chemicals in the brain, causing mood swings
• One has to smoke more to get the same effect – hence “addiction”
Speak to the computer• Ever tried voice
recognition software like dictation, Siri or Google Now?• Read on to see how
voice recognition software works• Go to www.google.com
to test how good your dictation skills are (see the microphone icon in the search bar?)
