Technical description
TA-SCOPE is a balancing instrument for measuring and documenting of differential pressure (Δp), flow, temperature and power in hydronic systems. TA-SCOPE consists of two main components:Handheld unit – computer-based unit programmed with the TA valve characteristics. Straightforward functions with easy-to-follow instructions on the colour display.Differential Pressure Sensor unit – the Dp Sensor communicates wirelessly with the Handheld unit and has LED indicators for indicating communication status and battery capacity. The units can optionally be connected via cable. TA-SCOPE automatically demands calibration when needed. The design of the sensor unit and a short flow-through during calibration eliminate measurement errors caused by insufficient venting of the measuring device.

Hydronic functions
Quick MeasureStraightforward function to measure flow, differential pressure (Δp), temperature and power. To be used when only one or a few valves are of interest. The function does not require any predefinition of network or module.
Hydronic NetworksComplex networks created in TA-Select are easily downloaded to TA-SCOPE. Use a network for measuring and balancing at any time; during commission, for control and inspection. All hydronic functions can be applied to a selected valve from a Hydronic Network.
BalancingThe powerful TA-Wireless and TA-Diagnostic methods for balancing hydronic systems. TA-Wireless makes use of two Dp sensors with wireless technology to easily perform balancing of a hydronic module. With TA-Diagnostic, you measure all valves in a module. The method calculates a Dp diagnostic for the module and correct valve openings to attain design flows.
TroubleshootingSoftware wizards take you step-by-step through the process of locating and diagnosing problems and errors in hydronic systems, e.g., Dp (Δp) analysis.
Data LoggingMeasurement during a predetermined period of time to analyse any fluctuations in flow, differential pressure (Δp), temperature and power. The logged data is stored and listed or displayed as a graph, both in TA-SCOPE and TA-Select.
Support functions
FluidSettings of fluid in the system to be explored and diagnosed. Water is the most common fluid in hydronic systems but water with various additives can also be handled by TA-SCOPE.
Hydronic calculatorPerform calculations based on the relationship between flow, differential pressure (Δp), Kv-value, power and differential temperature (ΔT). The function also gives guidance in selecting pipes and valves when designing hydronic systems and enables unit conversions.
Settings Manage adjustments regarding the instrument and appearance of information from the Settings function.
InformationDisplays information like software version, last calibration and battery details on Handheld, Dp Sensor and also Temperature Sensor when connected.

Functions
The TA-SCOPE relay is a high power transmission relay allowing to receive measurements performed by multiple TA-SCOPE Dp sensors located across a whole building. It uses 868 MHz (Europe) or 915 MHz (US) radio for obtaining a large transmission range and bridges this signal with the 2,4 GHz used by the TA-SCOPE handheld and Dp sensors. The elementary configuration is:- Relay 1 near the operator- Relay 2 near the second Dp sensorIf larger range is needed, up to 5 intermediate relays can be added.
Hh = Handheld DpS = Dp Sensor R = Relay
ChargingCharging of TA-SCOPE relays is performed by using the multi-charger available in the TA-SCOPE case.
Operation
For best wireless rangeInstall the relays- at some height (1 - 2 m) from the floor- not too close to reinforced concrete walls- not on a wet surfaceUse technical shafts when available as channel for the radio waves (see Fig. 1).Place relays near windows or outdoor to extend propagation of radio waves in larger buildings (see Fig. 2).

Valve characteristics
The valve characteristics of TA valves are available in the software TA Select, for calculation of flow/differential pressure measurement. It is also available on calculation disc and catalogue leaflet.
TA Select and catalogue leaflet can be downloaded from www.tahydronics.com.
Electrical connection
0-10 VElectrical connection is by means of a 1.5 m long 3-core cable. Core colours are as follows:White: System neutralBrown: 18-33 VDC or 24 VAC +15/-10% power supply. Current consumption, 5 mA.Green: 0-10 V output signal, proportional to the differential pressure. Load: not less than 10 kΩ.
4-20 mAElectrical connection is by means of a 1.5 m long 2-core cable. Core colours are as follows:Brown: 11-33 VDC power supply.Green: 4-20 mA output signal, proportional to the differential pressure. Load: not more than 650 Ω (at 24 VDC).
Connection to measurement points
Safety valveThe safety valve must be in position B when connecting and disconnecting the unit. Note: This opens the valve between P1 and P2. When measuring, the safety valve must be in position A to bring the sensor into operation.
Pressure connectionsConnect the red connection (P1) to the higher pressure (i.e. upstream of the balancing valve). Connect the blue connection (P2) to the lower pressure (i.e. downstream of the balancing valve). The connections have compression couplings for 6 mm (O.D.) copper pipe. (Pipe is not included).
CalibrationThe sensor has been calibrated when supplied.
VentingThe sensor must be vented in order to ensure correct measurement accuaracy. When venting, the safety valve must be in position B. Continue the venting until the pipes to and from the sensor is filled with water.
