CLARKSVILLE

REVITALIZATION

PLAN

Proposed Site Redevlopment

Existing Conditions

(WHILE WORKING FOR BOOKER DESIGN COLLABORATIVE & URBAN 1, LLC. & IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE CORRADINO GROUP)

This plan examined ways that the City of Clarksville, Indiana could begin to revitalize a once busy regional shopping corridor, which had lost many of its businesses to new suburban malls. We focused particularly on creating a stronger sense of place by den sifying the street wall and proposing a new ‘Town Center.’

Responsibilities on the Team:

Designed style and layout of the Master Plan documents

Coordinated completion of the Master Plan documents

Created digital presentation graphics

Researched history and current context of the corridor

Worked with Principals on the design of key features including the Gateways and Greenway

Project Highlights:

Emphasis on using New Urbanist ideas to renovate the aging auto-centric shopping corridor

Above are the location of key destinations in the corridor and where signage could be placed. As shown, there is signage at the entrances to the corridor, signage at the town center entrances and to direct visitors to the Little League Ball Park and the schools as well as the where a potential trail head could be located in the event that the abandoned rail corridor is developed as a trail.

Recommendations• Conduct a marketing/branding campaign. This campaign must include identification of the image to promote or associate with the corridor. It should include marketing to the region, not just to Clarksville.

• Develop unified wayfinding signage. Include iconic images or themes identified during the marketing/branding campaign.

HAITI IDEAS

CHALLENGE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This competition focused not on creating the immediate design solutions to the pressing housing problems of Haiti, but the long-term design of sustainable, culturally appropriate prospective redevelopment ideas.

DESIGN CONCEPT: To address Port-au-Prince’s demographic and infrastructure conditions resulting from the earthquake, our design took a focus on the environment of the tent city. We chose an existing tent city in Port-au-Prince proposing a long term framework that couples family generated dwellings with larger, civic scale frameworks that operate to create a sustainable, productive, replicated, and dignified urban fabric for Haiti’s tent city residents.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Using urban space-making theory, redesign a site in downtown Athens, GA. to improve its functionality both aesthetically and physically. The primary objective is to learn which human needs are relevant within the urban context and how to produce responsive design solutions to accommodate those needs.

DESIGN CONCEPT: Designed to create activity, curiosity, performance and relaxation this site pulls together the multiple businesses and activities of its block and creates a shared space. Including areas for outdoor dinning, performance, interactive art and access to existing bars and restaurants.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the Fall of 2010, my graduate studio traveled to China to work with a group of students at Nanjing Forestry University. This same group of students then came to UGA in December of that year to work on a similar project on our campus. Both projects revolved around creating a new campus areas for our schools..

CORA LEE FANNING

GARDEN

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Re-design the Cora Lee Fanning Memorial Garden at the J.W. Fanning Leadership Center in Athens, Georgia. The garden should speak to the community leadership mission of the Fanning Institute and Cora Lee Fanning’s legacy and love of gardens.

DESIGN CONCEPT: This design was inspired by Cora Lee Fanning’s love of gardens, southern plants and the Fanning Institute’s outreach mission. It functions as both an informal backyard for employees and a large fund raising space for social events. The ten trees on the terrace represent the Institutes ‘10 pillars of Leadership.’

LEED Green Associate - Spring 2010

Georgetown College - Designed and implemented a new campus landscape plan (2012)

Personal StatementMy interest in and devotion to Landscape Architecture and Urban Design originated from an eye-opening six month residency in London, England after undergraduate school. The experience of being easily accessible to many historic yet contemporary inner-city green spaces directed me toward a goal to create similarly vibrant parks within urban areas and, through them, dynamic and livable cities. I am searching for the firm that is able to mentor me toward the accomplishment of my personal goals - offering a variety of green places for urban dwellers to casually embrace, enjoy and engage with nature in their communities and environments.
