1. General computational details:

For all the individual bases and their H-bonded base pairs, calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level

were performed to get the fully optimized geometries and the corresponding total energies in gas as well

as solvent phase. Vibrational frequency analyses confirmed optimized geometries as true minima. Zero

point vibrational energy (ZPVE) corrections were also applied to the total energies of all these systems,

employing a correction factor of 0.9613. This Supplementary Data contains the Cartesian coordinates of

all optimized structures at the B3LYP/6-31g(d,p) level in gas phase as well as in solvent phase.
