HomecomingComebackAgain: Senior Stephen Geller hauled-in a 38-yard pass for a score late in the third quarter to give UIndy its first lead in a 21-17 homecoming win over Tiffin at Key Stadium in the annual homecoming tilt. It marked the third time in a row that UIndy overcame a second-half deficit to post a win on homecoming and gave the Hounds a four-game homecoming winning streak.

GLIACPlayeroftheWeek: Greyhound defensive back J.T. Owens was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference De-fensive Player of the Week on Oct. 19 after his performance helped UIndy to a 38-20 win over Michigan Tech Saturday. The senior co-captain grabbed interceptions on back-to-back possessions to start the second half. The first was deep in Greyhound territory with MTU driving. The second came when Owens victimized the Huskies again, this time returning it 42 yards for a touchdown to effectively put the game away for Indianapolis. He totaled four tackles in the win and added a sack.

GLIACHonors: Five Greyhounds earned All-Great Lakes Intercol-legiate Athletic Conference honors, including four from the conference’s top-ranked de-fense. Senior Tim Dury, senior Randall Court-ney and junior CraigRay were all first team honorees, while J.T. Owens and Mike Dum were named to the second team. Six Hounds also earned honorable mention accolades.

Fresh Start with Bart: The University of Indianapolis promoted defensive coordinator Bob Bartolomeo to head coach after former coach Joe Polizzi stepped down following the season. Coach “Bart” led the UIndy defense for the past six seasons and brings 35 years of experience, primarily in central Indiana, as the top Hound. Bartolomeo has coached at nearly every level, from high school to Divi-sion II to Division I bowl games.

NewLeagueAnnouncedfor2012: The University of Indianapolis will be one of the charter members of the newly-formed Great Lakes Valley Conference announced in January by league and school offi-cials. The addition of football to the league’s sponsored sports begin-ning in 2012 will allow UIndy to compete as a full member, joining 17 other Greyhound varsity teams that battle for GLVC championships. UIndy, which currently competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as an associate member, will play its 2010 and 2011 schedules in that league. Indianapolis has been a member of the GLIAC since it merged with the Midwest Intercolle-giate Football Conference back in 1999.

Geller,SmartFeller: Senior Stephen Geller was honored by the Central Indiana Chapter of the National Football Foundation at the organization’s annual banquet in February. After also being recog-nized as a prep at Avon High School by the Foundation, Geller was one of two Indiana college athletes honored at the affair for his success on the field and in the classroom.

RamTough: The St. Louis Rams invited senior Tim Dury to their rookie mini-camp in April. Dury was a First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference offensive lineman and was a participant in the Cactus Bowl, an NCAA Division II Senior All-Star game.

Recap:The Greyhounds narrowly missed a trip to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament after posting an 8-7-2 record and finishing with a 6-7-1 mark in GLVC. After a 2-5-1 start to the con-ference slate, UIndy put themselves in position for one of the final two conference tournament spots by rattling off three straight wins over Illinois-Springfield, Quincy and Rockhurst, with two of them being overtime victories. However, the Greyhound’s postseason as-pirations were dashed after a slim 1-0 loss to Missouri S&T in the final week of the season sent the Miners to the playoffs while India-napolis was left on the outside looking in. The Hounds wrapped up their season with a 3-1 win over Maryville on Senior Day to bring them to their final 8-7-2 tally. GriffinFive-O: UIndy head coach John Griffin led the Greyhounds to victory for the 50th time during his tenure, as Indianapolis best-ed Lambuth 4-2 on Aug. 30 in Memphis. Griffin amassed a record of 57-39-16 in his six seasons at the helm of the UIndy men’s soccer program. FreshmanPhenoms: The duo of freshman forwards Bobby Adkins and Roger Lee accounted for 19 of UIndy’s 29 goals on the season, as Adkins led the team with 10 tallies and Lee finished with nine. The pair also combined for 42 points, 48 shots on goal and four game-winning goals. OnceaGreyhound,Alwaysa Greyhound: Former UIn-dy standout John Higgins was named Interim Head Men’s Soccer Coach following the resignation of John Griffin. Higgins served on the Greyhound staff two seasons prior to his appointment following a stellar playing career at UIndy. Higgins was named second team All-GLVC and second team NSCAA All-Region in his final year on the pitch as a Greyhound and also earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 First Team and Academic All-GLVC accolades for his work in the classroom. The Dunfermline, UK native tallied 17 goals and 13 assists in his four seasons in an Indianapolis uniform.

WOMEN’S SOCCERRecap:After missing out on an NCAA Tournament berth a season ago, Geoff VanDeusen’s squad returned to the field of 48 by earn-ing the fifth seed in the Midwest Region. The Greyhounds had their season come to an end after a 1-0 loss to Bellarmine in the open-ing round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with a 15-6 overall record, posting a Great Lakes Valley Conference record of 11-3. The squad opened their season with a six-game winning streak and climbed as high as No. 10 in the NSCAA National Poll before suf-fering their first loss to Bellarmine Sep. 18 at Key Stadium. UIndy bounced back with a key conference victory over perennial-power Northern Kentucky, topping the Norse 2-1 just two days after their first defeat. Another pivotal victory for the Hounds came on Oct. 2 when Indianapolis downed Wisconsin-Parkside 1-0, beating the Rangers for the first time since 1999 and handing Parkside its first loss on their home pitch since 2006. The Greyhounds bested Park-side again in the first round of the GLVC Tournament, winning by the same 1-0 margin at Key Stadium. Eventual GLVC Tournament win-ner Northern Kentucky bounced UIndy from the conference tourna-ment by posting a 3-0 victory on their home field in Wilder, Ky., but the Hounds would continue their postseason play, earning a trip to Allendale, Mich. for the NCAA Tournament. FantasticFour: The Greyhounds had four student-athletes receive GLVC postseason honors, with senior Ash-ley Seehase garnering a first team nod, and senior Amanda Reese and freshmen Shelby Spinelli and HaleyMiller earning spots on the All-GLVC second team. Spinelli was also named GLVC Freshman of the Year in addi-tion to her second team selection. Three’s Company: The trio of Amanda Reese, Ashley Seehase and Shelby Spinel-li combined for 22 of the Greyhounds’ 32 goals, finishing the 2009 campaign with a combined 58 points. Seehase led the team with 10 goals, including eight game-winners, and provided three assists for her 23 points. Spinelli tallied 23 points of her own on eight goals and a team-high seven assists in her rookie season, while Reese capped her senior year as a Hound with four goals and four assists for 12 points, in-cluding three game-winning scores.

V O L L E Y B A L LEliteSeason: The fall of 2009 marked the UIndy volleyball team’s most successful season, as the team won a program-record 38 matches on the way to its first-ever NCAA Elite Eight

appearance. The Greyhounds captured their second conference crown (2003) by beating arch-ri-val and 11th-ranked Lewis on the Flyers’ home court in the GLVC Tournament finals. UIndy went on to host the Midwest Regional, and after downing GLIAC-foes Michigan Tech and Hillsdale, the Hounds dropped Lewis in straight sets to capture their first regional title.

UIndy drew undefeated and top-ranked Concordia, St. Paul in the national quarterfinals. The

Golden Bears won in three sets before eventually going on to win their third consecutive national championship. After being ranked every week since the preseason poll, the Greyhounds fin-ished sixth in the season’s final AVCA D-II Coaches Top 25 Poll.

EndofanEra: UIndy’s triumph in the Midwest Regional final not only earned Indianapolis its first regional crown, but also marked first regional championship for a Great Lakes Valley Conference school in the decade. Before the Greyhounds won in 2009, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-members accounted for each of the previous nine regional titles, including seven from perennial-power Grand Valley State. The GLIAC streak began af-ter Northern Kentucky captured the regional crown in 1999, with Northern Michigan (2004) and Ashland (2006) joining GVSU with national quarterfinal appearances over that span.

NationalCoachoftheYear: After guiding the Greyhounds to a record-breaking 38-2 season and their first-ever Elite Eight ap-pearance, 13-year head coach Jody Butera was selected by her peers as the 2009 AVCA Division II National Coach of the Year award winner.

Butera, the program’s all-time wins leader, has compiled a 324-155 record at UIndy. The Greyhounds’ taskmaster has directed the team to 11 straight winning seasons and picked up career victory No. 300 on Sept. 12, 2009 against Northwest Missouri State.

V O L L E Y B A L LHeadTurner: Senior Kyleigh Turner completed a successful and decorated collegiate volleyball career in 2009, as the Muncie, Ind., native captured a host of records and awards. The lengthy list includes the 2010 GLVC Paragon Award, the NCAA D-Volleyball Elite 88 Award, a sec-ond straight GLVC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade, third-team All-America recognition from the AVCA and first-team nods at the region and conference levels.

As a four-year starting libero, Turner finished her career with 2,574 career digs – easily a program record – and 129 career aces, good for a share of ninth all-time. MEN’S BASKETBALLAmong theRegion’sBest: Junior guard Darius Adams was named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team. Adams became the first All-Region player for UIndy since David Logan was the NCAA Division II Player of the Year in the 2004-05 campaign. The junior transfer, who was a Second Team All-GLVC honoree by the coaches, led the Greyhounds in points, re-bounds, assists and steals in his first year in a UIndy uniform after transfer-ring from Lincoln College.

AwesomeFoursome: Adams became the first UIndy player in history to lead the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals in a single season. Several Hounds have led in two categories and a few in three but no UIndy player has ever achieved the foursome in one season. Adams’ totals were impressive when stacked-up against the conference as well with all ranking in the top 10 in the league. He was fourth in scoring (19.4), eighth in assists (4.14), ninth in rebounding (6.0) and third in steals (1.86).

SquiresGoesfor45: Junior transfer DeWann Squires dumped-in a career-best 45 points on Dec. 15 as the host Greyhounds cruised to a 110-83 vic-tory over Cincinnati Christian. Squires blistered the nets, converting on a whopping 19-of-24 from the floor, part of five Hounds to reach double figures in scoring. Squires made 7-of-10 first-half shots to amass 19 points heading into the break to lead all players. He coupled that with an even more impressive second stanza, missing just two shots in the second half, going 12-of-14 from the floor. He was named the GLVC Player of the Week for his efforts.

OilSlick: Behind a double-double from point guard Darius Adams, UIndy defeated the defending-national champion Findlay Oilers, 71-63 on Nov. 21. The fourth-ranked Oilers had their 38-game winning streak snapped in the process, their first loss since the 2007-08 season. Adams scored a game-high 19 points and also collected a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with five assists to aid the hard-working Greyhound effort. The junior transfer scored 13 points in the second half alone, including four free throws in the final minute to ice the game.

LastSecondHeroics: Darius Adams drove the length of the floor with a one-point deficit to put UIndy in position to steal a win from Northern Ken-tucky in the conference opener on Dec. 3. He did just that when he calmly knocked down a pair of free throws with less than a second remaining on the clock for a 55-54 UIndy win. Adams finished the night with 28 points and 10 rebounds, one of his five double-doubles on the season.

SayingNo toValpo: UIndy’s starting five all scored in double digits to down NCAA Division I Valparaiso, 88-83 in exhibition play at the Athletics-Recreation Center to open the season. Senior Larry Woods led the way for Indianapolis, leading all scorers in points and rebounds. Ryan Sims scored 11 points in a three-minute stretch in the opening half as the Hounds took the lead and never looked back.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALLPostseasonReturn: Last season marked the third straight trip to the NCAAs for the Greyhounds, good for their sixth trip in the last eight years and eight appearance overall. Just three other teams in the region can claim an active NCAA Tournament streak of at least three seasons (Michigan Tech, Drury and Northern Kentucky).

StellarSeason: UIndy compiled a 26-4 record during its 2009-10 women’s basketball campaign, good for the second winningest in program history (2002-03, 29-3). The Hounds ran a school-re-cord 24 straight victories to start the season, lifting the team to a program-best No. 2 ranking in the USATODAY/ESPN Division II Coaches’ Poll.

Canary,PartyofOne: Senior guard Jessica Canary wrapped up a solid career at UIndy, finishing ninth in the program history in career points, 10th in rebounds and seventh in assists. She is the only Greyhound ever to amass over 1,400 career points, 600 boards and 400 assists. She also ranks highly in school’s career annals in 3-pointers made (3rd), blocks (4th), free throw percentage (4th) and steals (12th).

Canary became a member of another exclusive group after becom-ing the first UIndy women’s player to earn Academic All-America status, as the Coatesville, Ind. native garnered ESPNTheMagazine Academic All-America® College Division Third Team accolades this season.

Indy300: Senior guard KatieDeweyfinished her collegiate ten-ure as just the second Greyhound ever to surpass 300 steals in a career (303). Though she just missed UIndy’s career steals record, finishing 24 shy, Dewey set the program’s single-game record after compiling nine steals at Kentucky Wesleyan Feb.7, 2008.

OnPoint: Junior forward Samantha Meissel put up a career-best 19.2 points per game in 2009-10, good for the highest scoring av-erage in the GLVC. Her offensive efforts made her the first UIndy women’s player to lead the conference in scoring since Debbie Law put up an identical 19.2 ppg in 1982-83, the league’s inaugural season.

With her senior season still ahead of her, Meissel already ranks fifth in program history in career points, 354 shy of the all-time mark of 1887 put up by Liz Ramsey (1997-2001).

National Attention: After garnering first-team nods at both the conference and regional levels , Meissel and Canary each re-ceived recognition on a national scale. Both collected All-America Honorable Mention from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Asso-ciation, with Meissel also picking up Daktronics, Inc. All-America Third Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

SWIMMING & DIVINGWomen9th,Men21statNCAAs: Eight UIndy All-America per-formances, six from the Greyhound women, highlighted a solid four days of competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Canton, Ohio. The Indianapolis women finished ninth to extend a streak of 11 straight seasons placing in the top 20 nationally. The Greyhound men took 21st.

LikeClockwork: The UIndy women extended a streak of top 20 national finishes, taking home ninth place at the NCAA meet. It was the 11th-straight year that Indianapolis can claim a top 20 showing. The men had a top 20 streak snapped as they finished just outside at 21st overall.

EightisEnough: Senior Erica Smith put an exclamation point on her Greyhound career with four more All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. For her career, Smith nabbed eight All-America awards and leaves the school with eight school records (100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, all five relays).

WhattaGuy: Guy Kogel broke the school record in the 200 but-terfly, destroying the mark set just last year by Adam Petro. After Orel Oral’s mark (1:52.22) stood for nine years, Petro (1:52.01) bested his mark by 21-hundredths of a second be-fore Kogel mowed it down by over three seconds (1:48.93).

Sister Swimmers: Sisters Meghan and Maura Donahue are scratching their names all over the UIndy record books. The eldest, sophomore Meghan, grabbed three All-America hon-ors this season to give her four in her two seasons on campus. She has her name atop the school record board for fastest time in two different events (100 and 200 backstroke) and three other relays. Meanwhile freshman Maura racked-up five All-America ac-colades in her rookie season and also swam a leg in the three record-setting relays this season.

RacingOutoftheGate: A pair of Indianapolis Greyhound swim-mers earned national honors in the opening week of the season, winning Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors for Division II from CollegeSwimming.com. Maura Do-nahue won the 500 freestyle and swam to a second place finish in the 200 individual medley at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet while Guy Kogel won the 100 butterfly and swam to a second place finish in the 200 freestyle.

Fresh-man Alex Johns, who qualified at 125 by placing second at Super Regionals, was the only Greyhound to win a bout at the cham-pionship meet. Senior Lynn Panko and sophomore Bryce Givens also earned trips to Omaha by placing third and fifth at the Super Regional meet, respectively. Under first-year head coach Jason Warthan, the UIndy mat men finished the campaign with a 10-9 dual meet record, placed an impressive fourth of 22-team field at the annual Midwest Classic, and finished sixth at the 30-team Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational. HouseofPain-ko: Senior Lynn Panko ended his career as a Grey-hound with a 24-6 record, including seven pins and five major-decision victories. The Avon, Ind. native compiled 76 career wins with 20 coming via pinfall. As a Greyhound, Panko twice qualified for the National meet, claimed two Little State titles at 285 and captured top honors as a heavyweight at the Midwest Classic this past season. Panko also excelled in the classroom and was named to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academ-ic First Team on three separate occasions. The exercise science major posted a 3.42 GPA during the 2009-10 season and was one of just 13 2010 recipients to receive the award for the third time. NoExperienceNecessary: Freshman Alex Johns not only quali-fied for Nationals in his first season as a Greyhound, but led UIndy with 33 victories in his debut season. The Evansville, Ind. native claimed individual titles at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational and at the Little State meet in the 125-pound weight class, and finished with runner-up honors among the Division I-heavy field at the Missouri Open. Fellow freshman Shelby Mappes finished with 25 wins and tied for the team lead with nine pins in addition to claiming an individual title at the Roger Denker Open. AFamiliarFace: On June 15, 2009, former UIndy standout Jason Warthan was selected as the new head coach of the Greyhound wrestling program. Warthan, an All-American in 2000, was a three-time National qualifier and finished his career as a student-athlete with a record of 88-28. In his first season at the helm of the wrestling program, Warthan guided the Hounds to a 10-9 dual meet record and produced three National qualifiers.

B A S E B A L LNCAA Action: The Hounds made a second straight trip to the NCAA Midwest Regional in May. After three unearned runs led to a 9-6 opening-round loss to eventual national-champion Southern Indiana, the Hounds bounced back with a 5-2 win versus Ashland. The next game marked the end of UIndy’s season, however, as the Hounds fell 15-12 in 10 innings to GLVC-rival Northern Kentucky.

The postseason appearance marked the seventh for the Greyhounds under Head Coach Gary Vaught’s tutelage.

SacrificialMan: A perpetual proponent of the bunt, Coach Vaught’s team finished second in D-II in sacrifice hits with 73 on the year -- second only to Central Missouri’s 83. Individually, two-hole hitter Adam Akin led the nation with 20.

PickAWinner: Right-handed starter Cory Rupert tied for the league lead with eight pickoffs on the season, matching UW-Parkside lefty Alex Zarek’s total.

GreatScott: Despite an offensive lull in its semifinal loss to USI, UIndy racked-up 40 runs in four games at the GLVC Tournament. Led by sophomore slugger Scott Mourey, the Greyhounds hit nine homeruns at hitter-friendly GCS Ballpark, with four coming off Mourey’s bat. The 6-foot-5 designated hitter had a career day in the Hounds’ 19-10 win over Rockhurst by going 5-for-5 at the plate, including three dingers. It marked the only three-homer game by a Greyhound since 1998 - the last year game-by-game data is avail-able.

The700Club: Long-time UIndy head coach Gary Vaught earned his 700th career win in 2010 with a 13-5 victory vs. Saint Joseph’s Apr. 10. In his 16 seasons as head man at Indianapolis and 21 overall, Vaughan sports a 545-367-2 (.597) record at UIndy, part of a 712-500-2 (.587) mark overall.

All-GLVC: Five Greyhounds were voted to the All-GLVC Team by the league’s coaches, including first-team honoree DonovanDrake. The starting pitcher was joined by second-teamer Travis Capps and third-team honorees Kaleb Cunningham, Cory Rupert and Chris Ulrey.

PowerSwitch: Senior Adam Akin made sure the Greyhounds came away with two wins at Greyhound Park Apr. 6 by notching four hits and four RBIs in wins of 16-1 and 12-11 against in-re-gion Urbana. Three of his knocks went for extra bases, includ-ing an extra-inning walk-off double that clinched the sweep for Indianapolis. The switch-hitting second baseman, who hit a left-handed homer in the first game, also hit a game-tying solo shot from the right side in the seventh inning to force extras in game two.

Record Breaker: Veteran reliever David Early set a new Greyhound record Apr. 6 vs. Urbana by making his 67th career appearance on the mound. The Fairland, Ind. native broke the record of former Greyhound standout and newly-named Ron-calli head coach Keith Hatfield (2004-07). Early is also third in the UIndy annals in career saves (15).

GLVCWeeklyAwardWinners: Two UIndy players garnered a total of three weekly awards from the conference this sea-son, with Cunningham as to league’s only two-time GLVC Play-er of the Week winner (Mar. 22 & Apr. 26). Fellow junior Cory Rupert collected the season’s first GLVC Pitcher of the Week nod way back on Feb. 16.

MEN’S GOLFFairestofThemAll: Senior SethFair closed his golf tenure at UIndy with arguably the most mem-orable career-finishing round in program history. A week before being named Division II PING First Team All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), Fair fired a course-record-ty-ing 68 to cap a fourth-place performance at the NCAA D-II Championship, held at The Sagamore Club in nearby Noblesville, Ind. His final shot was a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, one he fit-tingly sank.

In addition to recording the second-best career scoring average in school history, Fair was named a finalist for the 2010 Byron Nelson Award, the

2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and GLVC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Not-So-Super Regional: The UIndy men’s golf team made its sixth straight NCAA appearance in 2010 by qualifying for the D-II Midwest/South Central Super Regional -- a fine season for most teams -- but a 10th-place showing at the 20-team event broke the program’s string of two consecutive appearances in the Division II Championship. However, senior Seth Fair tied for fourth and won a playoff to qualify as an individual.

Spring Regional: The Hounds notched six top-five finishes in 2009-10, including a 17-stroke win at the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational Apr. 3. Three Greyhounds finished at par or better at the 24-team event, led by medalist Seth Fair and his two-day score of -8. Junior Blair Webb (-1) and senior Brad Abel (E) also finished in the top five.

Back-to-BackGLVCChamps: The Hounds grabbed their second straight GLVC title in 2010, upping their total to a league-high five. UIndy topped the field by nine strokes as all five Greyhounds placed in the top 20, led by junior Allison Tyler’s third-place finish.

TrioTrend: For the fourth straight season, the UIndy women’s golf team placed three players on the All-GLVC team, with Lyndsay McBride, Sarah Prascsak and Allison Tyler all getting the nod this year. Prascsak earned the honor all four years. See below for the previous four seasons of UIndy all-conference performers.

Year UIndy’sAll-GLVCtrio2009-10 Lyndsay McBride, Sarah Prascsak, Allison Tyler2008-09 Lyndsay McBride, Sarah Prascsak, Kristi Piepenbrink2007-08 Lyndsay McBride, Sarah Prascsak, Kristi Piepenbrink2006-07 Jenna Brown, Sarah Prascsak, Kristi Piepenbrink All-AmericanGirl: Senior Lyndsay McBride picked up her sec-ond All-American honor with a Second Team All-America nod from the National Golf Coaches Association. She also picked up GLVC Player of the Year accolades in 2010, one year after taking NGCA First Team All-America laurels as the Division II individual national champion. Her scoring average of 76.0 strokes-per-round set a new program benchmark.

TeamRecords: In addition to McBride’s record-breaking individu-al scoring average, the Hounds set or tied a few team records. UIn-dy’s team scoring average of 313.0 strokes per round and its .845 winning percentage each set new program bests. The team also matched its lowest 18-hole score with a 12-over 300 in the second round of the Midwest Shootout Sep. 26. It marked the third time the record has been tied since it was first set in September of 2008.

AcademicSuccess: The women’s golf team put together another solid season in the classroom as well, as seven of the team’s eight roster members garner Academic All-GLVC honors. Lyndsay Mc-Bride was named the GLVC Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season, and she and teammate Ashley Seaton earned the GLVC Council of Presidents Academic Ex-cellence Award for being graduating seniors with at least a 3.5 cu-mulative GPA. Also, Allison Tyler garnered the NCAA Elite 88 Award for having the highest GPA among the participants at the Division II Women’s Golf Championship.

S O F T B A L LWhat a Career: The 2010 season saw the final campaign of the most decorated Grey-hound in history, MeganRus-sell. She earned Daktronics Third Team All-America honors for the third season and was a Second Team All-America hon-oree from the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association for the second time. Russell leaves the school as the record holder in career homers, RBI, pitch-ing strikeouts and wins. She was also second in the books in career hits, doubles, shutouts and third in runs scored.

Awards Abundant: Russell earned the GLVC’s Player of the Year award, an honor given to her by a vote of the league’s coaches. She was part of three Hounds to earn All-GLVC status joining First Teamer Jamie Keltz and Third Teamer Ashley Boxley. Head Coach Melissa Frost-Fisher garnered the league’s Coach of the Year Award.

Set‘EmDown: Among Russell’s many accolades was her pitch-ing performance in 2010. The senior amassed 256 strikeouts to easily top the school record in that category. She threw a no-hitter against Wheeling Jesuit on Mar. 8 and tossed a five-inning perfect game against Kentucky Wesleyan on Apr. 10. She had 11 double-digit strikeout games this past season.

Three-Peat: UIndy once again qualified for the NCAA tourna-ment, marking the third time in school history (all consecutively). The Hounds have racked-up 112 wins combined over the past three seasons.

Top Seed: Thanks to a regular-season ending doubleheader sweep over Quincy on May 2, UIndy grabbed the top seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. That achievement marked the first time in school history that the Hounds were the top seed at the league’s postseason event. The Greyhounds have qualified for the league dance in each of head coach Melissa Frost-Fisher’s six seasons at the helm.

Lucky13: The Hounds rattled-off 13 straight victories from Mar. 6-19th, the longest streak in the program’s history. It started with a doubleheader sweep of GLVC-newbie Illinois-Springfield in the con-ference opener and ran all the way through the annual Spring break trip to Florida and three more conference sweeps for an 8-0 league mark to start the season.

HomeSweetHome: While construction is being done on cam-pus for UIndy’s new home softball field, the Greyhounds have made quite a home at their temporary location at the Indiana Central Little League. The Hounds were 13-1 in 2009 and followed that with a 14-2 record this season for a .900 winning percentage at the field all-time (27-3).

TRACK & FIELDThree Out of Four Ain’t Bad:UIndy won three of the four con-ference titles this season, with the men claiming their first indoor title and the Hounds sweeping the out-door championships. Indianapolis has nine combined GLVC crowns all-time, including five (two indoor, three outdoor) in the past two sea-sons alone.

Coachof theYear: Greyhound head coach Scott Fangman took home three separate GLVC “Coach of the Year” awards this season af-

ter UIndy teams combined for three GLVC titles. He was also named the Midwest Region Men’s Head Coach of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associa-tion. UIndy Assistant Coach Giles Davis also nabbed the Midwest Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year from USTFCCA.

JanuaryMeetRecords: During the month of January, the Grey-hounds broke nine meet records as the Hounds established five new marks at the Little Giant Invitational and four more at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.

SchoolRecords: In addition to their numerous meet records, the Hounds also rewrote their own record books by establishing five UIndy indoor records and five new school records during the outdoor season.

DozenDoCharlotte: After narrowly missing out on several pro-visional qualifiers in the indoor campaign and not sending an ath-lete to the national meet, UIndy loaded the plane to Charlotte, N.C. with 12 athletes qualifying for the outdoor meet. Four indi-viduals and three relays all competed for the Greyhounds. Seth Galloway finished sixth in the javelin throw to earn his second career All-America honor and 4X400 relay squad of Carl A. Smith, Jermel Kindred, Nick Brittain and Jerel Flournoy posted a 3:11.10 time for seventh place and an All-America standing. The UIndy women’s 4X400 squad of Deltarae Martin, Christina Carrick, Ki-erraAllen and Haley Miller finished third in their section, placing ninth overall with their time of 3:44.82 just under a half-second away from All-America standard.
