PCR (Phytocannabinoid-Rich) Hemp Oil with 0.0% THC is golden amber in color and rich in phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and fatty acids, making it a broad spectrum oil. Our PCR oil has a high concentration of CBD, when combined with the other synergistic compounds makes it the most precious hemp-derived oil on the market.

CBD (cannabidiol) Isolate is a single molecule from the hemp plant that endures heavy processing to achieve its purity. All other beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes, etc. are destroyed in the process. The final product is a White / Off-white powder and used in many products to provide CBD.

Hemp Seed Oil is Green in color and does not contain phytocannabinoids. This oil is a popular food source due to the high content of protein and omega fatty acids. It’s also a beneficial emollient for skin.

Folium Biosciences’ nanoemulsions are patent pending formulas that use optimized composition and a unique process to manufacture. The average size of our hemp oil droplet in this form is 25 nanometers, compared with 100-5000 nanometers that is usually obtained by using the industry standard liposomal delivery method. The small size of the Folium nanoemulsion hemp oil leads to a much larger surface area of the hemp oil droplets leading to much higher absorption in the bloodstream. Hemp oil nanoemulsions can also be used in a number of consumer products, including the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries. Due to their thermodynamic stability, nanoemulsions do not lead to phase separation (oil separating from water), thus enabling the formulation of stable products.

Water-Soluble Technology

We have several proprietary and patent pending PCR water-soluble options for our customers to choose from. Our water-soluble technology is used to create a liquid or a powder that results in cannabidiol that is water-soluble and highly bioavailable. Pure phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil that is added to water remains insoluble, and under physiological conditions, is not readily absorbed into the bloodstream. However, when our hemp oil is converted into a water-soluble liquid, it quickly goes into the solution, forming cannabinoid emulsion droplets with an average size of 25 nanometers, providing a high surface area for enhanced bioavailability. This results in a superior ingredient for our customers to formulate with.

Our standard PCR water-soluble powder is a phytocannabinoid-rich (PCR) powder with 20% CBD, other minor phytocannabinoids, and terpenes. This proprietary formulation has been designed for optimum bioavailability and maximum absorption. It is intended for dissolution immediately prior to consumption and for manufacturing of semisolid/solid products. Dr. Raj Gupta is a pharmaceutical scientist, responsible for R&D and product development at Folium. His vision is to perfect the science of product development to a point where consumer experience can be predicted based on an accurate translation of research into product design.

Before joining Folium Biosciences, he led the Technical Operations at Guthy-Renker (now Nestlé), overseeing product development and manufacturing, resulting in commercialization of billion dollar brands, such as, Proactiv+. Earlier, he had managed product development of orphan drugs like Kuvan® (sapropterin dihydrochloride), Firdapse® (amifampridine), Aldurazyme® (laronidase), and Naglazyme® (galsulfase) at BioMarin Pharmaceutical as well as category-leading brands; Clorox, Brita, Kingsford, Hidden Valley, and Fresh Step Scoop at The Clorox Company.

Dr. Gupta has received a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry and an M.B.A., from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and B.S./M.S. degrees from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has published multiple journal articles in the analytical chemistry and spectroscopy areas where his research has found applications in semiconductors.

Dr. Robert Silver DVM, MS, CVA Chief Veterinary Officer, Folium Biosciences

Dr. Robert Silver is a gifted veterinarian, researcher, and author who has been practicing medicine for over three decades. He graduated from Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in

1982. After working inColorado Springs, Dr. Silver moved to Boulder in 1993 to establish Boulder’s Natural Animal, one of the first integrative veterinary medical practices in the US.

For the past 12 years, Dr. Silver has been investigating and recording the influence of cannabis on his patients; leading him to be known as the veterinary authority on treating companion animals with medicinal cannabis. Literally writing the book on how cannabis works with animals, he has documented its effects in a wide variety of conditions found in companion animals. These observations resulted in the writing of his book entitled: “Medical Marijuana and Your Pet”. Currently, Dr. Silver is involved in ongoing studies detailing the benefits phytocannabinoids have on animals through a multi-centered approach that involves veterinarians from around the US. Dr. Silver came to Folium Biosciences originally in 2015 where he found the high-quality hemp extracts he had been looking for on behalf of an animal nutraceutical company and was recruited to join Team Folium in February of 2016.

Hemp Pellets are pressed from Folium Biosciences’s Hemp Meal, which contains 0.0% THC and a guaranteed minimum cannabinoid content of 0.3% in dry matter. They have been assayed to contain 20% plant protein, 30% insoluble fiber and 50% complex carbohydrates. The hemp meal used to make the pellets has been sterilized, sieved, and blended for safety, efficacy, and consistency. A food-grade FDA approved mold inhibitor has been added to the pellets for additional shelf life. These pellets can be easily administered to a variety of species, including horses, donkeys, mules, goats, sheep, swine, poultry and pet caged birds, rabbits, and pocket pets. Q. How does CBD work in pets?

A. It works the same way it works in people, by stimulating the endocannabinoid system to create balance in the body which helps to relieve pain, reduce neurological problems, reduce anxiety, and address problems with diseases like osteoarthritis, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, epilepsy, asthma, etc.

Q. Is THC necessary for CBD to work?

A. No. This was a common belief before more research was done regarding hemp’s other cannabinoids. New information has shown that THC and CBD can sufficiently function without the other. Broad spectrum products that are THC-free but still have several other cannabinoids present are the most beneficial as the cannabinoids are able to complement each other’s individual effects.

Q. Is THC safe to use in pets?

A. Folium Biosciences does not recommend giving THC to animals. Every species will experience different reactions to the compound. Dogs have been found to be highly sensitive to its psychoactive properties, while cats have been shown to be less susceptible. THC in larger animals like horses can be potentially dangerous to both the animal and owner, due to THC causing excessive excitement or positive drug tests.

Q. Is THC an important medicinal cannabinoid?

A. THC does have clinical value when combined with CBD for severe pain and aggressive types of cancer. Other than those two applications, the other major and minor cannabinoids and terpenes found in broad spectrum hemp extracts are more than adequate to address most clinical conditions responsive to cannabinoids.

Phytocannabinoids and Animals: Dosing and Drug Testing

Q. What is the recommended dosage for pets?A. We always suggest starting with a low dosage and seeing how it affects the animal before moving up. For the most common ailments, such as anxiety or mild pain, the lowest dose twice a day works very well. Even for more severe problems, the positive reaction to CBD can be profound enough at this low dosage to benefit the quality of life entirely. Every individual is unique and will process cannabinoids differently, meaning that there is no one-size-fits-all dose for all animals. The best way to make sure that the animal is receiving an adequate amount of CBD is to start low and monitor behavior for 5-10 days before increasing intake.

Q. How was the recommended dose calculated?A. Several scientific studies were analyzed and compared with first-hand evidence to create the recommended dose. Study groups of neurology and oncology veterinary specialists were given Folium Biosciences’ Phytocannabinoid-rich (PCR) tinctures to administer to their patients and examine the outcomes. Through their results and overwhelming anecdotal evidence collected over the course of two years from other vets and pet owners, this was determined to be the most advantageous dose to begin with.

Q. What is the recommended dosage for horses? A. Folium Biosciences had several equine veterinarians test CBD dosages on numerous horses to find the ideal amount needed for a given condition. Horses are very efficient at absorbing phytocannabinoids. For example, anxiety, a common occurrence when eventing or loading onto a trailer, was greatly reduced with the use of 25 mg once or twice a day. Mild lameness or pain was also remedied by that same dosage. For more serious conditions like laminitis, marked lameness, metabolic syndrome, or Cushing’s disease, 50 mg twice daily made a notable improvement.

Q. Will drug testing be a problem for equestrian events?A. Currently, in the US, horses are only being tested for THC, not CBD. Rules regarding CBD in these cases are subject to change, and we will be continually monitoring any development in this area. While the federal law on hemp allows small amounts of THC to be present, Folium Biosciences prides itself on creating 0.0% THC hemp products. Animals will not show a positive THC result on drug tests when using Folium Biosciences’ PCR hemp products, which very few hemp companies can promise.
