General information about carrier rollers

Torwegge carrier rollers are manufactured specially for our customers. In order to cater for these special requirements it is necessary to specify the required carrier rollers precisely. This is achieved through a uniform structure of our part numbers.

Note: A carrier roller consists of three elements, namely the bearing, axle and tube. The dia-grams on page F3 are to be observed when determining the load-bearing capacity of a carrier roller.The weakest element is decisive for the load-bearing capacity of the roller. The load-bearing capacity is reduced by approximately half for accumulating rollers.

These comprise a vast array of different conveyor elements according to DIN standards and special measures of your choice.Therefore this catalogue is only able to present you with a selection of the most common dimensions and models from our production programme. If you cannot locate the suitable item for your field of application here, please contact us. We will surely be able to find a practicable solution for you.

Carrier roller constructions and coatings

Other wheel bodies, in addition to rollers, can be coated with Toflex or silicon. Felt tubing is available in individual lengths and PVC covering tube and shrinkdown plastic tubing are also available by the metre.

Bearing: Model TRG 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 are manu-factured from deep drawn sheet steel with cone bearing. Model TRG 16 and 20 are manufactured from thermoplastic plastic with one row of balls.

All carrier rollers are also available in a galvanised finish or with other coverings (see p. 4 � 5).

Roller sleeve: Precision steel tubing with suitable tolerances for particularly smooth running properties in stove-enamel finish RAL 3000.

Roller base: Deep-drawn sheet steel base with calibrated ball bearing seat. The roller base is welded to the precision tubing.

Axle: Steel, bright-drawn, axle ends with external thread, internal thread, offset thread or spanner flat.

Seal: Multiple plastic labyrinth rings are combined

to form a sealing unit, which is also protected with a steel sealing cap. The labyrinth is greased along with the large dimensioned pre-chamber.An additional rain protection cap prevents the pene-tration of rain and splash-water into the roller interior through the use of centrifugal force.

Bearing: Precision ball bearing 6204, 6205 and 6206.

Roller base: deep drawn sheet steel base with calibrated ball bearing seat, welded all around to the roller sleeve.

Axle: Steel, bright-drawn, axle ends with spanner flat. Bearing: precision ball bearing. Bearing series 6204. Lubrication: permanent lubrication.

Seal: The precision ball bearing is fitted with an inner seal in the interior of the tube.On the outer side it is fitted with a four-fold labyrinth seal, along with a dust cap, grease chamber and a water protection cap. This seal guarantees good protection from dust and moisture.

Brake roller

Brake rollers regulate the speed on gravity roller conveyors and they keep the material being conveyed at a constant speed. This is achieved via a planetary gear set, which presses a centrifugal force braking mechanism onto the roller body with proportional braking force after each rotation.The spacing of the brake rollers and the correct type of brake roller are influenced by several factors.One brake roller per plate section is ideal, as this enables a con-trolled speed without acceleration and the occurrence of high forces. The execution speed should never exceed 0.3 m/s. With the correct arrangement of brake rollers, however, the speed should be just 0.2 � 0.25 m/s

Direct braking (-K)During direct braking the brake roller is subjected to direct contact with the load. It is spring mounted and must stand approx. 2 mm above the level.

Indirect braking (-L)The indirect braking method is preferred in many cases, becau-se the pallet is contacted via 2 supporting rollers. 4 springs take over contact and 2 clip bolts, which are loosely integrated, secure the brake roller.In order to improve the degree of contact between the brake drum, carrier roller and pallet, the carrier roller should be provi-ded with a self-adhesive friction covering.

Ball transfer unitsThe ball transfer units generally consist of a steel housing with an embedded, hardened ball cup, which serve as the running track for the small bearing balls. A number of these steel balls support the large load ball, which is also manu-factured from steel or plastic.

The ball transfer units are constructed so that a very smooth run is possible in

all directions. They can also be installed upright and facing downwards, are very easy to maintain and are protected from dirt accumulation by an oil-soaked felt seal.

Galvanised ball transfer balls manu-factured from stainless steel or plastic are resistant to corrosion, aliphatics and aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene,

alcohol, oils, ether, greases and other similar agents. Ball transfer units with plastic load balls are particularly suita-ble for loads with delicate surfaces, such as glass, polished aluminium, brass and sheet steel.

Ball transfer units The running qualities are not influenced by temperatures

between minimum � 30° C and maximum +70° C constant or +100° C for short periods.

If the seals are omitted, then temperatures from 150° C � 200° C are possible. In this case, however, a bearing reduction occurs, whereby the following approximate values can be taken note of:at 125° C = 10 %at 150° C = 20 %at 170° C = 30 %at 200° C = 50 %

If required, seals that are suitable for higher requirements can also be used.

load during the transfer of round material. All load-bearing specifications are valid for use with an upright ball. These specifications

Conveyor rollers

Conveyor rollers Torwegge conveyor rollers are available in steel,

plastic and steel with rubber tyre versions. They are primarily used in roller conveyors and

wheel tracks for live storage systems. The new deep-grooved ball bearings ensure the

Torwegge conveyor rollers run smoothly and evenly.

The sheet steel parts and hub are galvanised for corrosion protection.

The cones, balls and ball race are hardened and lightly oiled (rollers with POM balls are not oiled).

The use of POM balls in the rollers ensures a noiseless run.

Multi-directional wheels Torwegge multi-directional wheels can be used

to create large table surfaces of any size. These wheels, however, should only be used

for light loads. Please conduct trial runs in advance!

The main field of application of the U-profile and fixed roller tracks is found in:

Live storage systems Guide rails for conveying systems Roller conveyors and roller carpet for interlinking

two work stations. Packing tables and picking stations. Assembly aids, e.g. in the woodworking and window-

manufacturing industry. Storage of the rollers on steel axles guarantees a high

load-bearing capacity (6daN kg) and a very low sliding friction resistance.

The torsion-resistant roller track profile is formed from bright zinc-plated sheet steel and has rounded-off edges. The section modulus is 0.5 cm3. Rollers are interchan-geable.

If a free size is to be located at the front and rear for the fixed roller track, then this measurement must be specified.

We have to calculate a surcharge for this.

Groovy pallet roller tracks

The Groovy pallet roller tracks can be used wherever TORWEGGE pallet roller tracks are deemed to be too narrow as a result of their 74 mm roller length and a wider running surface is required. Pallets measuring 1000 mm and 800 mm in width can be conveyed on 2 or 3 Groovy pallet roller tracks.

The advantage of Groovy pallet roller tracks is their durable construction. The carrying profile consists of 3 mm-thick galvanised steel with good deflection and torsional strength. The roller is manufactured from gal-vanised steel (Ø 60 x 2 mm) and has a load-bearing capacity of 160 kg. The ball bearings are maintenance-free and have a long service life.

User formation for light-duty roller conveyors, wheel conveyors / roller conveyorsThe track width is the clearance between the profiles.The effective carrying width is marginally smaller.

In general the track width should be wider than the materi-al to be conveyed � particularly importantly for bends with side guides.

In principle, however, the rollers are located above the upper edge of the frame, which means that material being conveyed can also overlap the side in individual cases.

Material to be conveyedThe bearing surface of the material to be conveyed is important when it is transported over a roller- or wheel conveyor. It must be ensured here that the bearing surface is even and firm.

Condition of the material to be conveyed:

Wheel conveyors - even, sturdy base

Roller conveyors - even, sturdy base

Longitudinal bars in direction of conveyance

Belt battens if resting on carrier roller

Multi-directional roller conveyors - even, sturdy base

Roller tables - hard and even base

Suitable pitch / axle base

In order to ensure the material is conveyed smoothly and without toppling over, it must rest on at least 3 rollers. The axle base or pitch designates the measurement from the middle of one roller to middle of the next roller in the direc-tion of travel.

Determining the pitch:Smallest length of material to be conveyed: 3 = min. pitche.g. 250 mm : 3 = 83 mm = select 75 mm pitch.

If the material to be conveyed is unevenly loaded, a smaller axle base should be selected if necessary.

Arrangement of support frames

In general support frames are set at a distance of approx. 1.5 � 2 m. The track load is decisive in determining this.

Support frames are set:

Freely within the length of a track at a distance of approx. 1.5 � 2 m.

At the joints between two track segments.

90° bends should also be supported at the middle of the bend (at 45°).

The support frames are set back slightly from the ends of the track.


Small roller conveyors

The small roller tracks are equipped with galvanised quick connectors as standard. These enable the tracks to be expanded at any time.

Other widths and lengths are available on request.

Various attachment options

A 10 mm hole is applied to the centre of the plate (underside). Insert nylon bushing (diameter 11 x 6 MA) into the hole in the plate, centre, insert screw and tighten.

Single-row ball bearing slewing ringThis slewing ring is a light model from the slewing bearings product range. Rolling elements made from ball bearing steel with surface hardened ball tracks. Material: C 45 N according to DIN 17200. Permissible bending tension at the base of the tooth: 130 N/mm2 (normal), 260 n/mm2 (maximum for a brief period).

The bearing cross sections of this type series are kept relatively small for efficiency purposes. Therefore the slewing bearings are to be assembled to a torsionally rigid companion structure.

The bearing surfaces for the slewing bearings must be even to prevent the bearings from being twisted when screwed. This could result in bottlenecks forming in the track, which would, in turn, cause load peaks at these locations. The bearing surfaces must be mechanically processed for this reason.
