vIntroductionIntroductionKid to Kid is a resale shop that specializes in baby, children, and maternity products. The way we receive our inventory is through the customers who bring in their items to sell. In return these customers will get “cash back for their kid stuff”. There are many jobs and responsibilities that every employee working at Kid to Kid should have knowledge about and potentially able to perform. The way our employees work behind the counter and out on the store floor show shoppers that customer satisfaction and having a friendly environment is our top priority. This job-training manual will go into detail about the three most vital jobs and tasks that Kid to Kid employees should execute:

Processing Merchandise Buying Process Checking Out

Chapter One: Processing Merchandise

3Chapter 1Chapter 1: Processing MerchandiseOne of the most important jobs when working at Kid to Kid is processing the incoming merchandise. Customers are always expecting to find a new treasure when shopping at Kid to Kid, so getting the items out for sale on the store floor as quickly as possible ensures customer satisfaction. By having a proficient system, every employee is able to tag and process every piece of inventory in a timely manner.

TaggingMost inventory will get the price tag attached to the item with a green tagging gun like the one shown below.

Also, when tagging merchandise, the employee should always keep in mind to tag items where they can be easily visible for the customers.

Apparel

1. For tops- gun the price tag on the clothing label located inside the back of the shirta. If there is not a clothing label, then gun the price through a top seam located on

the back of a shirt.2. For pants/jeans- gun the price on the clothing label located inside near the back waist of

the pantsa. If there is not a clothing label, then gun the price through a top seam located

inside near the back waist of the pants3. For swim suits- whether it be a 2 piece swim suit or not, gun the price on the clothing

label on the TOP piecea. If there is no label, gun the tag on an inside seam located near the top on the

inside of the garment 4. For ties and hats- gun the tag on the brand label usually located on the back of the tie or

the inside of the hat

Shoes

1. Always attach the pair of shoes together with a plastic loop it2. Attach the tag at a shoe string hole using another loop it3. Write the price of the shoes on the bottom on the shoe using a black pen

a. If the shoes have leather or cloth bottoms DO NOT write the price on the bottom

Books and DVDs

1. Tape the price tag on the back of the book/DVD using packing tapea. Make sure tag covers manufactures barcode

Toys

1. All toys should be quickly wiped down using disinfectant wipes or baby wipesa. Make sure cleaning solution is not toxic

2. Gun or tape tag to toy in a visible place so it can be easily seen by customers 3. If toy has pieces, place the extra pieces in a Ziploc bag

a. Attach the extra Ziploc bag to toy using a loop it or zip tie

Equipment

1. Make sure to always wipe down equipment items with a nontoxic cleaning solution 2. Tags should be put in a visible place3. Use a features tag for equipment items that are placed on a higher shelf or ontop of the

racksa. Features tag should include what the item is and the price

Strollers

1. Gun the price tag to the center of the seat, usually on a seatbelt strap2. Make sure to place a white security tag near the price to avoid shoplifting

Swings

1. Gun the price tag to the center of the seat on a seat strap2. If a swing comes with plug in adapter, place the adapter behind the counter with

barcode written on ita. Make a note on the price tag that the adapter is behind the counter

Car seats

1. Gun the price tag to the bottom edge of the fabric2. Make sure car seat safety form has been completed by the original owner3. Gun the car seat safety form to the car seat straps

High chairs and Boosters

1. Tape the price tag onto the tray of the high chair or booster a. If there is no tray, then tape the price tag on the top of the seat back

Walkers and Exersaucers

1. Tape the price tag near the bottom of the piece of equipmenta. Price is easier to locate for customers when tag is down low, as these pieces are

usually placed up high on a shelf

Bouncy Seats

1. Gun the price tag on the fabric near the bottom of the seat for easy visibility

Hanging clothing Below is a chart to help identify which size hangers fit for what size clothing.

Helpful Tips for Hanging

If the hanger seems too big or too small for the article of clothing/item, then use the next size (smaller or larger) to make clothing hang better

For outerwear, typically go up one size hanger due to the heaviness of the itemo However, do not use larger hanger if the item looks odd or may tear because of

the hanger being too big

Security tagging clothingBlack security tags should be placed on the more expensive clothing and shoes. The following is a list of the pricing that qualifies an item to have a security tag.

Tops, outerwear, and pants > $5.99 2+ outfit pieces > $7.99 Shoes > $9.99

Buying Process

Chapter 2: Buying ProcessKid to Kid is a resale shop in which the way that we get our inventory is through customers who bring items to sell. These customers in return get cash back for their kids things. The buyer plays a huge role at Kid to Kid and it is very important that the buyer understand all tasks and responsibilities required of them.

Options when selling at Kid to KidThere are several options when selling items at Kid to Kid. It is especially important that all customers clearly understand every option available to them. This ensures that there is no miscommunication or misunderstanding. Also, thoroughly explaining the selling options not only helps create customer satisfaction, but also helps the process go as smoothly as possible.

Buying Hours

Customers can walk in and sell their items during the following hours:

Monday-Friday 9am-5pmSaturday 10am-5pm

After these hours, customers are given the option to drop their things off for the buyer to buy at a later time.

Sell While You Shop

1. Buyer will purchase items while customer is waiting in the store

2. Saves time for employees at Kid to Kida. Do not have to deal with no thank you’s, presorting, or pre approving the offer

3. Most convenient for customersa. They do not have to return to the store to pick up their payment

4. Helps customers better understand how much they received for particular itemsa. Buyer can give them a pricing break down of each item

5. Excellent way to build sales as customers have now turned into shoppers

Drop- Off but Want Items Back

Customer pre approve the offer o Cannot say no to offer as items will already be out for sale

Customer will have to stay for a quick pre sorto Usually only takes 10-15 minuteso Gives customer back the items that we are definitely unable to use

Great for customers who have sold to us before Customer understands the buying process

Drop- Off and Donate Items

Presorter’s Tasks

Handle all incoming items Explain the buying process to customer Make sure customer has completed buy form Write down customer information on the log in sheet Presort through the items Test battery toys and equipment Look up items for recalls Handle no thank you’s and donated items

The Presort

When sorting through customer’s items they have brought to sell, we should look for:

Stains Holes/damaged Excess wear Faded Smell Overstocked Outdated/older style Zippers work properly All buttons and snaps are intact

Buying Buyer’s Tasks

2. Make judgment if items are good and sellable3. Log in exactly what the item is in IMAP- the buying software4. Price the item5. Give the customer a cash payout amount for items we were able to use and a store

Checking Out

Chapter 3: Checking OutAt Kid to Kid, checking out is a very crucial job. The experience while checking out determines the future of our customers coming back to shop again. We should always remember to be positive, friendly, and sociable towards our shoppers when checking out, this ensures that the customer feels welcomed into our store.

Programs Kid to Kid offers a variety of programs that are implemented to keep our customers coming back. When checking out a shopper, employees should remember to offer the following programs to them.

Frequent Shopper Cards

At the end of the purchase, customer gets a stamp for every $10 spent Once the card is filled up, customer receives 20% off their entire next purchase Card must be present in order to redeem discount Card must be present in order to get stamps for their purchase

o We cannot stamp receipts or stamp for previous purchases The cards work for all DFW locations For example, a customer spends $48 dollars, they would get 4 stamps for their purchase

o Encourage them to buy one more item as they would qualify for one more stamp

Book Club Card

Receive a free book (up to $1.99) once a montho If book is more than $1.99, then $1.99 will be taken off the price of the book

In order to get the free book, customer buy at least one other item Once the card is issued, it is good for a year

One card per household Card must be present in order to receive free book

Mystery Gift Card

Special type of event Customer has previously received mystery gift card prior to event Card is worth between $3 and $50 Redeem card during specified timeframe Mystery gift card only works at store where card was received

Other Sales and Promotions

A variety of sales and promotions go on throughout the year Hand out flyers to every shopper a few weeks prior to event Send out email to customers to keep them informed

Email Coupons

Owner will send out a monthly coupon o Only redeemable for those customers on the email list

If customer wants to receive email coupons, add the correctly into the database Customer has to present email or code word to cashier at check out

Go Bag-less

Customers can choose to take a shopping bag from us or use their own If customers choose not to take our bag, $0.05 will be donated to our local charity

o $0.05 is the cost for one of our plastic shopping bags This program helps to recycle shopping bags Saves K2K from having to purchase more shopping bags
