SYNOPSIS (THIS OUTLINES THE FLOW OF THE PARTY EVENTS). Bloodworth Falls is an isolated town full of scandal, blackmail and deceit. Nobody in town can seem to get along, and the local government has hidden motives for the dreadful decisions they make. The mayor is

hosting a mysterious masquerade ball in the old Ravenwood Manor, and the tickets to the event sold out in hours. The townspeople are curious to find out why the mayor would put effort into doing something positive in

this town of gloom, but are all eagerly hunting for the perfect mask, nonetheless. You are worried what will happen this night when such toxic people gather at the Manor. You are also very concerned, as you didn't

purchase your ticket; it was placed in your mailbox in an unmarked envelope. Somebody wants you there, but you don't know why. This is where your story begins.

countless hours of your life in a courtroom.

putting to most people, so Brin certainly doesn’t have many friends. However, Dr. Mint always

has a full appointment book.

*IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS:

Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date so you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same participation level, but these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the mystery to be sleuthed appropriately. What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take a deep breath…it’s

not the end of the world.

This party is an exciting murder mystery where the players act the roles of intriguing personalities while sleuthing the captivating story line. You can never go wrong with a MY MYSTERY PARTY game for any occasion! The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues, slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your game on the www.MyMysteryparty.com site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s sake, an alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll with the character/round. In these instructions, however, we will assume you are using the envelope method for each character, each round.

The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows:

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS: these optional pre-game task sheets are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These tasks are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way.

APPETIZER (COCKTAILS 4 ADULTS) HOUR / ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive.

DINNER HOUR / ROUND TWO: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner (optional) to your guests.

DESSERT, AND THE BIG REVEAL/ SOLUTION ROUND THREE: Deliver these clues with coffee/hot cocoa and dessert.

Note: you do NOT have to serve dinner, this is only suggested and the instructions tell you ‘when’ to serve it and what to do around the time you serve it. You also do not have to serve dessert – again, it is only a suggestion. You can simply skip both without a problem and just serve snacks/appetizers the entire time.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME STARTER Before the party, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party -YourMysteryParty.com/raven website or use the free printable My Mystery Party invitations as they have the character descriptions included. This way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party as well as the history of Bloodworth Falls, watch the game trailer, and more! There are also hidden/subtle hints about characters throughout the page so those guests who choose to be ‘super sleuths’ can spend some time studying the Your Mystery Party site prior to the party. The free, downloadable invitations are located on the item page where you first purchased this game. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link that says ‘free, downloadable invitation’ to download the pdf file. Fill in your information in the text fields and either print or save to your hard drive. You can email these invites to your guests to save paper costs. You will need to enter your information in the text field and save one on your hard drive for each player, changing the character to be played on each invitation. This optional pre-game round is to be implemented approximately one week before the party. Please note that this round is designed to generate pre-game excitement and is not necessary to solve the mystery. The ways to deliver these starters are as follows:

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

ROUND ONE - MEET & MINGLE APPETIZER HOUR Round one – appetizer / cocktail (for adults) hour begins as the guests arrive. DÉCOR: The party area is supposed to be the Dark Shadow Ballroom of the Ravenwood Castle of Bloodworth Falls. This mean, any generic party area can be used. In no way are you to duplicate the map on the murder mystery investigation sheets – this is only used for the story. All you need is a general party area and access to a restroom for your guests. In order to set the ambiance of a historical castle in a gloomy town, add touches of cobwebs and use candelabras to set the mood. Since this is a masquerade ball, you can go to a local party store and view the selection of masquerade décor – the sky is the limit, but your budget for décor is really the limit. Deep purple, black and silver would be a great color scheme for a dark-themed event such as this – but feel free to be creative and choose anything you prefer. There are large prop mask cut outs that you can stage around the party room for a ‘wow factor’, and festive balloons in the shape of masks or that have masks on them. If you have time, it may be worth it to do an internet search for ‘masquerade ball décor’ and find some items online. Also, take a look at our Pinterest Page (MyMysteryParty) for some DIY options. Optional: make a DVD of pictures of your guests to play like a slideshow during your party on the television / projector screen (if there is one in the room).

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

PROP LIST: These are props needed for this round. Collect these items in advance and have them ready. If any of the optional games are played, you will need to collect the items needed in advance of the game. Round One Clue cards printed and slipped into envelopes that are labeled and sealed for each character

playing the game.

ROUND TWO – DINNER HOUR PRE-GAME SET UP: In the nearest bathroom, place the following items under the sink - the victim sign, scotch tape, host supplied white non-toxic face makeup (optional but funny and suggested), and also include the victim t-shirt and / or crime scene tape if you have purchased these items (again, optional but funny and suggested). If there is not a cabinet under the sink, place these items in any location that can be concealed within that bathroom. The victim will be instructed in their clue card for round two to look for it if there is not a cabinet under the sink. The victim will be instructed in their round two clue card – to become the victim after the pre-murder clues have been implemented (after ~ 15 minutes) to go to the nearest restroom to become the victim by applying the white face makeup on their face (optional), using Scotch tape to adhere the victim sign to their chest and if the optional victim t-shirt is available - to put that on (with the victim sign on top) and if the optional authentic crime scene barrier tape is there - to decorate themselves with it. It is hilarious when the guests see the fully decorated victim! PRE-ROUND TWO: You can serve dinner (dinner is optional). You can simply take a break and eat dinner but tell your guests to remain in character! They are allowed to mingle / talk about things during this time, but since they will likely be only sitting with a subsection of the group, it will be limiting – and that is all right – you’ll give time for everybody to mingle once the official round begins. You can pass out their clue cards before/after dinner – it won’t make a difference.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

THE INVESTIGATION BEGINS: Once the victim is discovered and the laughter dies down, read the sign on his/her chest to the group. Pass out the Murder Mystery Party Investigation Sheets (if you haven’t done so already) and give each player a pen/pencil. Encourage the guests to implement their 'post-murder reveal clues' and share truthful information and opinions that they have regarding the murder. This part of the investigation should take about 15 minutes, but don’t rush as it is important. FORENSIC ANALYSIS: Put the forensic analysis results in a sealed envelope.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

CONCLUSION OF THE ROUND: At the conclusion of this round, give the guests a time period (i.e. 5-10 minutes) in which to fill in their final guesses as to whodunit on the 'Murder Mystery Investigation Sheet'. Collect the guess sheets from your guests at the conclusion of this round.

You collect the investigation sheets so the guests are not tempted to change their original guesses of whodunit once they hear what others have to say during the accusation round. If you trust your guests won’t change their answers &/or there is no pride or end of the game prizes on the line – there’s no need to collect the murder mystery investigation sheets from your guests. PROP LIST: These are props needed for this round. Collect these items in advance and have them ready!

ROUND THREE – SOLUTION ROUND ACCUSATIONS: After you collect the mystery investigation sheets, allow the guests to one-by-one accuse who they believe the MURDERER is and how they did it. Instruct them to also tell the group their guess of the MURDERER‘S motive. If you are having an awards ceremony using the awards certificates available on the My Mystery Party site in the mystery props section, you can use this round as the final decision maker on the Best Actor/Actress award.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

ORDER OF READING THE FINAL SOLUTIONS: The order to read the final solutions are given on the individual Round Three solution cards. Prompt the guest that has the ‘READ FIRST’ on top of their solution card to go first (instruct them all to view the top line of their solution card to see if they are this player). The next person in line is denoted at the bottom of his/her solution card and so on until the murderer reads their clue card last. The order of reading the solution cards is within the ‘Mystery Solution’ in the final pages of this document (see the Table of Contents). If you want to keep the murderer a secret and play along with your group, do not view this page – again, it is included in the final pages of this document. If you are using an expansion pack with this game, please note that the expansion pack players will always read their solutions first – prior to the characters in this kit. With an expansion pack, there will always be a substitute Round Three solution card for the player in this game who is instructed to go first to reflect a new order to read in the solution Round Three. This substitute card for this player in this game kit will say to ‘read when you are instructed’ instead of ‘read first.’

HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY PARTY GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

You’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most awesome costume and have been told to play your role. Now what? The mystery is separated into three main rounds of party play. During the party, you will receive an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues for the characters at the party provide everything that you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to get the whole picture of what has happened.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED

GAME From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘hypocritical police officer,’ then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are designed to be played more reserved than other characters. Feel free to play your role in any manner that you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other guests to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.

Contact the guest playing Ashton Jade and say that you heard a rumor that Ashton told everybody at CBC News that Ashton hired you as a DJ to play top hits of the past at their company party, but that you played your own music instead. That is an outright lie. Ashton hired you as a performer, and it’s even in the contract that you do not take requests. You want to be paid for your time, so Ashton should pay you. During this round, mingle with other guests to discuss the following information with whomever you choose: Tell a few people that you cannot stand being the butler of Reese Cerulean. Long ago, Reese caused a car accident intentionally. However, you hit Reese’s car from behind, so s/he won a frivolous lawsuit for 1.5 million dollars, claiming that s/he had lifelong neck injuries. Reese settled out of court with you that if you worked as his/her butler for a decade at 25K per year, you wouldn’t have to pay the 1.5 million. You found this ridiculous, since it was Reese that pulled immediately in front of your car that was traveling at 65 miles per hour and slammed on the brakes for no reason in the middle lane of the high way. You are certain this was done intentionally in order for Reese to have cause for a lawsuit. You took the settlement deal because you didn’t want to be in debt for 1.5 million, but you continually search for dirt on Reese so you can get out of the deal. You heard a rumor that your boss, Reese Cerulean, is blackmailing the mayor to pay him/her some money every week so that s/he doesn’t run against the mayor in the next election and it all goes into a Swiss bank account. Reese would obviously win, as most of Bloodworth Falls works for him/her. All Reese would have to promise is a big bonus if s/he gets elected. This makes you sick – you think the mayor is very scandalous, but you hate to see Reese get the upper hand on anybody.

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL You would do anything, even murder, to get rid of Reese. You wanted to be a lawyer and were about to go to law school but because of that lawsuit, you had to diverge and join the service industry against your will. Reese is a horrible person.

During the mystery, your character must be honest and not make up any potentially mystery-altering clues in addition to those provided to you. You do not, however, have to share the clues that you collect with other guests.

You’ve decided to be honest with 1-2 people about how you maybe got your start as an actor by paying for a few roles, but that doesn’t make you any less of an actor. There is tension between Omari Black and Ashton Jade. Find out what is going on. Tell everyone that you heard a rumor that Reese Cerulean and Mayor White are working together on some scandalous things. You don’t know what these ‘things’ are, however. Ask Reese Cerulean why s/he sues everybody. You have heard for years that Reese takes people to court for frivolous things. You also heard that is how Reese has so much money. Tell Peyton Pewter thanks for everything s/he has done and is doing to help you.

Post-Murder Evidence & Alibi (Blood Type AB+) You should arrange a chronological time line to see where everybody was during the time of the murder. You never left the ballroom once the masquerade ball started. You remember seeing the murder weapon at the buffet table, but you don’t think you touched it. Unless you’ve heard of a recent injury or illness, you should assume that all suspects were physically capable of committing the crime.
