ABOUT BOOKKEEPINGBookkeeping is a vital part of business administration in all industries. Work in the field may involve the preparation of summaries of financial transactions, receipting and processing invoices, calculation and distribution of wages or salaries, preparation of financial statements and debtors’ listings and reconciliation of accounts. HLT54115 - DIPLOMA OF NURSING  Completion of the Diploma of Nursing enables you to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in accordance with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for registration as an Enrolled Nurse. Within this course there are mandatory on and off-the-job training components. The on-the-job training component is a clinical placement. SHB20216 - CERTIFICATE II IN SALON ASSISTANT This course provides you with the skills to work as a salon assistant. You will be prepared for communicating in the workplace, interacting with and providing service to clients and assistance to colleagues. You will work under direct supervision and as part of a hairdressing team. Upon completion, you may choose to progress to the Certificate III in Hairdressing. 

SHB30416 - CERTIFICATE III IN HAIRDRESSING If you wish to pursue a career as a hairdresser, this course may be for you. Although usually undertaken as part of an apprenticeship, you can complete this course to fast track your pathway to employment in a hairdressing salon, or an apprenticeship. You will develop the skills needed to work as part of a team in a hairdressing salon as well as how to consult with clients, sell products and services and design and apply a broad range of technical hairdressing services including treating, cutting, colouring and styling hair.

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM COURSES

SIT20316 - CERTIFICATE II IN HOSPITALITY Study the Certificate II in Hospitality and learn basic skills and knowledge in a range of activities and functions required in hospitality. Upon completion you may work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés and coffee shops using your practical and basic industry knowledge. This course may be completed as part of a traineeship.

SIT20416 - CERTIFICATE II IN KITCHEN OPERATIONSThe Certificate II in Kitchen Operations equips you with skills and knowledge in a range of kitchen functions and activities. Employment opportunities are present in a range of settings such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs and cafeterias where food is prepared and served. Study this course and gain basic cookery skills to work as a cook’s assistant, catering assistant, sandwich hand or takeaway cook. If you would like to undertake an apprenticeship in the trade of cookery, and you are seeking a pathway to be a commercial cook, then this pre-apprenticeship course could provide you with a pathway to the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery. The Certificate II in Kitchen Operations can also be completed as part of a traineeship.

SIT30616 - CERTIFICATE III IN HOSPITALITYThe Certificate III in Hospitality equips you for a role as a skilled operator that possesses a range of well-developed skills in hospitality. Throughout this course you will develop the ability to use discretion and judgement and upon completion will possess sound knowledge of industry operations. This course leads to roles in the hospitality industry that may provide operational advice and support to team members while working under limited supervision. VET IN SCHOOLS (VETiS)CQUniversity offers Year 11 and 12 high school students the opportunity to study a range of vocational education and training courses as part of their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

From 2019 year 11 students can include a VETiS Certificate III qualification or higher to contribute to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), which replaces the Overall Position (OP) as the standard pathway to tertiary study for Queensland Year 12s. HOW TO APPLYEntry to the VETiS program is by direct application only. To apply for a VETiS course, follow these easy steps.

1. Download, print and complete the VETiS application form, available at www.cqu.edu.au/vetis.

2. Submit your application form, with your parent’s/ guardian’s permission to your school VET Coordinator with a copy of your birth certificate and copy of previous qualifications.

3. Your school VET Coordinator will then sign off on this form and email your application form to [email protected].

Enrolments may be accepted up to one week prior to commencement of the course you are applying for. Please note that some courses have limited space so early applications are encouraged. Most VETiS courses start in February and follow the school terms.

STUDY OPTIONS AFTER LEAVING SCHOOLYou’ll find a number of post-school VET study options available at CQUniversity such as the Certificate 3 Guarantee and fee-free training for year 12 graduates that may be subsidised by the Queensland Government.

CERTIFICATE 3 GUARANTEEPart of the Queensland Government’s Great Skills, Real Opportunities action plan, the guarantee gives working-age Queenslanders access to their first Certificate 3 qualification through a subsidy that reduces the cost of the course. This subsidy gives working-age Queenslanders who don’t hold a formal qualification a chance to develop their skills and improve their employment prospects.

A Certificate 3 is the first level of post-school qualification shown to have a significant impact on a person’s employment and earnings. It is also the level of qualification usually required to get a job in the emerging industries of aged care, child care, hospitality and small business.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)RPL recognises informal learning and knowledge that you’ve acquired that may occur via seminars, workshops, training events, vendor or manufacturer training in the use of machinery, and voluntary, work or life experience. RPL is an assessment process allowing you to achieve all, or part of, a nationally recognised qualification by demonstrating your knowledge, skills and experience around a particular topic.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL SUPPORTThe cost of a course varies depending on what you are studying. STUDY SUPPORTAt the time of enrolment you will need to complete a numeracy and literacy test known as the Basic Key Skill Builder (BKSB) which allows us to identify your skill levels. This information is used to match you to an appropriate level of study as well as provide you with suitable support, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge to commence study in your selected course. USER CHOICE – APPRENTICESHIPS AND TRAINEESHIPSTraineeships and apprenticeships need to be secured with an employer before you can start your education and training. AVAILABILITY DEFINITION

Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus.

Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically.

On-Campus: Where a campus is denoted, students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.

Mixed Mode: Mixed Mode is a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit.
