It has been an extremely busy and productive 2 terms, and time has flown! We are currently finalising mid-year reports for all students which will be ready to go home on Friday. I encourage everyone to take the time to carefully read the reports, celebrate successes, and discuss the goals and next steps for further development. This will be a focus for us all at the beginning of next term. We should all be proud of what we have been able to achieve as a collective over the first half of the year. I know I am! Year 7 to High School As many of you will by now be aware, students in year 7 will be starting high school from 2022. This will impact students who are currently in year 4 and below. Regional communities are invited to have their say on how year 7 will move to high school. The consultation will test the possibility of providing families with the choice to keep their year 7 child in primary school, if their primary school is located more than 20 kilometres from its nearest area or high school, which at this stage will include us as Murray Bridge High School as our feeder school sits beyond the 20km range. As this is an initiative that is progressing, I will continue to keep you all updated as information comes to hand. Big Day In A reminder to everyone, that this Thursday is our end of term Big Day In. The Big Day In is a celebration, rewarding positive behaviour and respect for teaching and learning throughout the term. During the day, students will participate in a number of fun and engaging activities that will be run by staff members. We will also be providing hotdogs for everyone as a free lunch. Have a relaxing break! As we draw to the close of term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all students, staff, parents and the community for your support. We are a great team which makes for a great school! I look forward to working with you all again in a positive way next term! Have a great week! Travis

Student Well-being When adults separate Separating is tough, but when that separation involves children, things can feel a lot harder. A separation involving children can cause a lot of added distress for the parents. Although your natural impulse might be to put your children first, this will be near impossible if you and your partner are experiencing poor mental health. Children need to see that their parents are coping. If possible, make sure your arrangements are created in a way that both parents can spend quality time with their child. Experts say it’s best to save any heated discussions for when the kids are not around. But if they do catch on to what’s happening be honest with them. Parents are often afraid of upsetting their kids and that they will not be able to cope, but if kids suspect something is going on and you don’t tell them, they’ll be confused. Be as open as you can while still protecting them from matters involving adults. And stress that it is not the child’s fault that the separation is occurring. When it comes to discussing living arrangements and visitations, flexibility is paramount. There is no one-size-fits-all. Things change, meetings come up and things get cancelled, so there should be a degree of flexibility in order to allow for this. This may be idealistic but give it consideration if you can. 47% of divorces in 2018 involved children less than 18 years according to the Australian Institute of Family Services Holidays Some things to enjoy in Tailem Bend

Go for a walk along the river

Do some fishing

Go to the playground

See if there are any programmes on offer at

the Community Centre

Go across the ferry

Look at the display at “Uneek”

Make up a treasure hunt

Go for a drive to look at the Solar Farm

Spend some time at the football oval and

netball courts

Go to the supermarket together and see if

your child can locate certain products

See if your child knows what shops we have in

town.

I am sure you can think of lots of other things to do together. Please take care. Regards Marie Flavel Student Well-being Leader

Youth Environment Leaders On Tuesday 18th June, the Youth Environment Leaders (YEL) group and Mrs Harvie went to Paul’s Garlic Farm in Mypolonga and learnt about garlic and how it grows. We went for a tour around the garlic farm and did experiments with soil. Then we drove to the Mypolonga Primary School and sat down in their library. Alan talked to us about organic waste, different layers of compost and how to compost. We went to the garden and put different layers of compost down before returning to school.

SRC News Earn and Learn Stickers The SRC would like to thank families and friends who collected Earn and Learn stickers for our school during the Woolworths Earn and Learn Sticker Programme for 2019. In particular, we would like to thank Tianna Eastwood and her family for collecting over 1,000 stickers alone!! The stickers will be counted by the Year 6/7s and SRC executives. We will let you know how many stickers our school collected next term. If you find any stickers at home, please send them to the front office by Friday. Casual Clothes Day The SRC decided at Monday’s meeting to have a Casual Clothes Day on Friday the 5th of July as a fundraiser, and as a fun way to end the term. Students are invited to wear casual clothes on Friday for a gold coin donation. All funds raised will go to the SRC. Thank you At the end of the term our SRC reps will finish their term as SRC Representatives for their classes in semester one. I would like to say a very big thank you to the students below for their dedication and

commitment in being excellent representatives for their classes. Tayla Collie, Hemi Cheso, Maddi Cooper, Zak Baxter, Kaya Goodwin, William McEntee, Georgia Nagel, Bastion Kidziak, Ava Paech, Hugo Kowald, Stella Kerr, Noah Gayford, Pippa Peterson and Liam Dohnt. Classes have chosen new SRC representatives for semester two. The Induction ceremony will take place on Monday 29th July (Week 2 Term 3) at 10:40am in the gymnasium. Our new SRC representatives will celebrate with a morning tea held in their honour in the staff room after the ceremony. The SRC would like to wish everyone safe and happy holidays! Thank you, Dani Schubert

School News We have had a few cases of head lice this term. Please take the holidays to try and get on top of this problem. If you do not remove all the eggs and live lice the problem will persist. If you are having trouble with the removal process you could seek professional help. Please see towards the back of our newsletter our protocol for the process of dealing with head lice.

Tailem Bend Primary School School Head Lice Management Protocol

Checking for head lice is a family responsibility. This should be done weekly.

Parents / caregivers are asked to let the front office know if they have treated their child for head lice so that an information letter can be sent home to the class.

If a student is suspected to have head lice at school.

The student will be sent to the front office and a parent/caregiver will be phoned and

asked to come and pick up the student.

Student can then return to school after treatment has been completed.

A parent/caregivers information note will be sent home to all students in the relevant

class.
