Keep your eyes open! From time to time the jaguars swim from one tree to another in search of food. Leftover food is therefore one of the signs that indicate where a jaguar has been.

JAGUARS HERE SPEND THREE MONTHS SLEEPING AND HUNTING IN THE TREETOPS, AN AMAZING

ADAPTATION TO THE FLOODING OF THE FOREST. THE ONLY RECORDS OF JAGUARS EXHIBITING THIS BEHAVIOR

ARE TO BE FOUND IN MAMIRAUÁ.

JUST FOR YOU Ê

A small and privileged group of tourists will have the chance to join the Jaguar Expedition. Each trip will take just four visitors, who will closely monitor the work of the researchers of the Iauaretê project. The goal is to find a jaguar, the third largest feline in the world.

MAMIRAUÁ HAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST

DENSITIES OF JAGUARS IN THE WORLD.

WHY CHOOSE THIS EXPERIENCE?

RESEARCH FUNDING The finances from expeditions are used to fund

scientific research in which jaguars are monitored by

means of GPS collars. The monitoring of geographical

location gives researchers information on the

movement of jaguars in the forest and helps them

better understand the behavior of the animals, the

area they occupy and if they are approaching local

communities. More collars means more information!

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

These funds will also enable the creation of the Jaguar

School, aimed at teaching science and environmental

conservation to children in the communities of the

reserve, by using information collected through the

research. Education and greater understanding are

essential to the reduction of hunting and of conflicts

between jaguars and local communities.

FOUR NIGHTS

SUPERIOR LODGE ACCOMMODATION

BILINGUAL JAGUAR RESEARCHERS LEAD THE EXPEDITION

COMPLETE BOARD - INCLUDING SPECIAL SNACKS ON ALL OUTINGS + ONE BOTTLE OF WINE PER NIGHT

COME FACE TO FACE* with a powerful and elegant feline, living free in the forest.

SPOT A BLACK JAGUAR. Since monitoring began, this rare animal has been captured only once in Mamirauá.

SPOT A JAGUAR FAMILY. The jaguar has up to four offspring per pregnancy. The young accompany their mother for an average of two years.

SEE A JAGUAR CAPTURING ITS NEXT MEAL. Jaguars usually sleep during the day and become more active at night. However, in places with a high density of animals, there is a chance of seeing them hunting during the day.

OPTIONAL FLYOVER** OF THE RESERVE. Accompanied by the researchers you get to see the forest from above and seek out the most likely places to see a jaguar on the ground. Signals from the jaguars’ collars are received by VHF radio and help to indicate the best route.

* although the chances are high, this is a scientific expedition in nature and there is no guarantee that the animal will be sighted. ** see uacari lodge staff for more information.

ANIMAL CENSUS-SLOTHS: A tour to help researchers count numbers of this animal which is the main prey of jaguars – and to enjoy many photographic opportunities.

SURREAL SUNSET ON LAKE MAMIRAUÁ: In the late afternoon the sounds of the forest increase dramatically in volume and the light on the water turns Mamirauá Lake into another world.
