From the General Manager…. As June rolls in, I hope you will help me welcome back our summer staff that will be creating memorable mo-ments for the 2011 season. With all Club areas in full swing, June will keep you busy with TCC activities. Please make the Club your first choice when deciding where to spend your time this summer.

Please come join us to meet some of the Club’s new members. The New Members Party will be held on Fri-day, June 3rd from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We will have hors d’Oeuvres for all of you to enjoy. New members will receive complimentary hors d’Oeuvres and beverages. There will be Live Music from Justin, our wonder-ful local guitarist and singer. Please call the Club’s front desk to make your reservations. $10.00++ per per-son. Our Golf Professional, Marc Kimminau, will be having a spring sidewalk sale outside the Pro Shop as well. Come out and check out all of the new fashions.

Come join our Seafood Extravaganza on Saturday, June 11th. Cocktails and hors d’Oeuvres will be served at 6:00 p.m. We will be offering an array of seafood for you to enjoy. An extravagant dinner buffet will follow the cocktail hour. If you do not eat seafood…don’t worry, we will have items to tempt your pallet as well. Please call the front desk to make reservations. $49.00 ++ per person

The Orpheus Dinner and Concert is back on Saturday, June 18th. Reservations are filling up fast for America’s Oldest Singing Group. Coming from Philadelphia, the group has a rich history and camaraderie that you do not want to miss. TCC hosted this event in 2009 and it was a sellout! Cocktails and hors d’Oeuvres will begin at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will follow and then you can sit back, relax and enjoy the show. $49.00++ per person.

The Pool Team has put together a new event for 2011: Family Bingo Night, scheduled for June 18th. Come join us at the pool for a fun night of games and friends. The fun will begin at 4:00 p.m. Check out the pool information boards for future details.

On Friday, June 24th, we will host a tennis “Margarita Mixer” starting at 5:30 p.m. Come over to the courts for a fun evening of cocktails and tennis. All skill levels are welcome. The casual format lends itself to accom-modating men and women for a wonderful evening of fun. And remember…every Friday, all summer long we have a DJ providing LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. Please sign up at the tennis courts.

Many new programs are available for 2011 for the tennis program and the pool. There is something for juniors and adults. Please take a moment to visit the website to get the registration forms. Activities include junior tennis camp, adult and junior weekly tennis clinics with our new tennis professional staff, other fun tennis events and the Club’s Swim Team. Please make sure you register, as we need participation for these events to be successful now and into the future.

If you are interested in the 2011 tennis program, please call Chris Wyles or check out the Club’s website, www.talbotcc.com for more details. The Pool and Tennis Committee has taken your feedback and is offering a variety of events, clinics and private lessons that have been requested. Try a weekly stroke clinic to enhance your game or sign your child or grandchild up for a weekly junior clinic or a junior tennis camp. Dave Mar-shall, head coach at Washington College, will be administering the Talbot Country Club Tennis Program for 2011. I am excited to see you out on the courts.

The July 4th Pool Party is always a TCC favorite. Come enjoy a day in the sun with the family. We will be making snow cones and the popcorn machine will be popping. A waterslide will be provided from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. The barbecue grills will create that wonderful summer aroma that fills the air. Sign up at the pool or at the Club’s front desk.

I look forward to seeing you at the Club soon.

Respectfully,

Christopher S. Wyles General Manager

Just a reminder, the Friday Junior Clinic ended in May and the next Friday clinic is Fun Fridays beginning June 17th.

New this year is TOUR SCHOOL… This is an opportunity for the Advanced Junior golfers, ages 8-15, to work on their game with supervised lessons from the professional staff. Each series will cover a specific aspect of their game to make them a better golfer. The cost of these lessons is $30 for golfing members and $45 for Social Members. The first session is June 18th and will cover Full Swing and will have Video Analysis. The session runs from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

We just want to take this time to thank all of the parents who make our Junior Program possible. Without your support and help, we would not have the turnout that we continue to have. It is important with these upcoming events, that the age limits are followed. These are put in place so that we can provide the best learning environ-ment for our junior golfers. If you have a child that does not meet the age requirement, private lessons and private clinics are available. Thank you again, parents, for making our Junior Program possible. Nick & Kevin

Greens and Grounds The month of May has been ideal from the perspective of the greens and grounds crew. Fairway and green maintenance have been carried out on schedule. As golfers have noticed, the planned renovation of the fifteenth fairway has begun with the eradication of the old turf in preparation for sprigging with Patriot Bermuda. Weather permitting, the fifteenth fairway is expected to be playable, but not perfect, in time for the Men’s Member /Guest tournament in June.

The area near the pump house has become increasingly attractive. Ornamental grasses have been planted to obscure large pipes and the flowers in the landscaped sign area are in bloom. The grassy area in front of the sign area is receiving attention and will fill in as the season progresses. A nicely designed driveway to the pump house has enhanced the appearance of the entire area.

Further improvements have included the replacement of the weathered Talbot Country Club sign at the en-trance to the road into the Club and the planting of six trees in various areas on the course. The ongoing pro-ject of cart path repair will continue this year as funding permits.

Many thanks are in order for the members who have planted lovely gardens and planters at the club. Betty Jean Wheeler has overseen the planting of the garden behind the first tee and the flowers by the front entrance to the clubhouse. The members who planted the following are: Tee Gardens Number ONE--Virginia Oertel, TWO--Mary Riedlin, THREE—Jim and J.P. Lewis, FOUR—Mary Doetzer and Fred Endy, FIVE—Judy Madole, SIX—Yvonne Wilson and Barb Wheeler, SEVEN—Gail Jones and Trish Reynolds, EIGHT—Lil Cornett , Diane Blair and JoAnne O’Reilly, NINE—Elizabeth Hutchinson and Connie Wallace, TEN—Julie Wojcik and Mary Holston, ELEVEN—Jinny Monteith, in memory of Dick Hughes, TWELVE—Pat Lewers and Bobbie Seger, THIRTEEN—Tobey Frederick, FOURTEEN—Nancie Buscher, FIFTEEN—Lorraine and Mike Kelly, SIXTEEN—Nancy Collins and Jan Gnospelius, SEVENTEEN—Pam Epprecht, EIGHTEEN—Fran Every, PRO SHOP PLANTERS—Joyce Doehler. Nice work everyone.

Pool Committee

The 2011 pool season is here! Please come out to the pool and to the courts and see all of the new programs we have to offer. For the children, there will be formal swim lessons, tennis clinics and tennis camps. There are still some openings in a few of the camp weeks. Our camp director, Emily Cranwell, has exciting new things planned for the campers this summer. Each week campers will enjoy tennis, golf and swim instruction along with the usual fun activities.

We are excited to welcome our tennis professional, Dave Marshall, and his staff toTalbot Country Club. They will be available for private lessons by appointment and will also be at the club to hit with and instruct mem-bers on Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. They will be running weekly clinics. If your game is rusty, or if you are a be-ginner, look for clinics just for you! Our first tennis mixer of the season, the Margarita Mixer, is on June 24th starting at 5:30 p.m.

I am looking forward to another great summer!

Golf Committee Great events are coming up in June; please check the Club calendar for all of the activities.

The Men’s Member/Guest is scheduled for June 9, 10 and 11. We currently have 36 teams signed up, which makes six flights. Presently, new team sign-ups will be added to a waiting list until we have six additional teams and a new flight can be created. Please let the Pro Shop staff know soon if you are interested. The SEA-FOOD EXTRAVANZA on Saturday evening is a great event for golfers and wives and is not to be missed.

Be sure to check out the redesigned Club website, which has great information on everything related to TCC golf, such as Men’s, Ladies and Junior leagues and programs, information on lessons and instruction, course and pro shop hours, important rules and regulations, etc.,etc.,etc. You can use the Club website to post scores and verify handicaps as well. Of course, the website also includes great information on all of the other areas of the Club. Check it out!

ForeTees, which is our new online member tee time management system, is a big hit. If you have not yet tried booking a tee time online, please try it. You can use ForeTees to sign up for our golf events as well. ForeTees is accessed through the TCC website and it is very easy to use. Marc and his staff are available to offer a quick tour of the system and get you up and running.

Juniors, check out the new Junior Golf Ladder which will give you an opportunity to play regular matches with the other junior golfers at Talbot Country Club. Initially, the juniors will be seeded by their handicap at the beginning of the season. After that, juniors will be able to challenge players higher on the ladder, and if you win, you move up. The Ladder standings will be displayed on the Junior Golf Ladder board in the Pro Shop. The season begins when Talbot County Schools close for the summer. Check the Club website for more de-tails or call the Pro Shop.

For those of you that fix your ball marks… thank you, thank you, thank you.

For those of you that do not fix your ball marks… please, please, please, please, please fix your ball marks. Thank you.

Don’t forget about the opportunity to bring guests without paying a greens fee on Tuesdays and Thursdays af-ter 2 p.m. during June. This is a great way to introduce a friend or prospective member to the Club. Cart fees do apply unless you walk the course. “Some golfers lie awake at night And brood on what went wrong; I'd rather think of what went right. It doesn't take as long.” - a poem by Dick Emmons Please contact your Golf Committee if you have suggestions for improving the golfing experience at TCC.

The Nine-Hole Member-Guest Invitation "The 9-hole ladies are going wild September 13-14, 2011." Or, at least, we are going on safari! On September 14th, the Niners will celebrate their annual Member-Guest Tournament, “Going for the Big Game – a Golf Safari” with a day of fun, course surprises and golf. The big event will be preceded by an evening cocktail party at the home of Pat & Tim Casgar where the food will set the mood for the African theme of the tournament.

It’s time to choose your guest, warm up those strokes with our pro staffs’ lessons over the summer months and practice. Any one of our participants can win the prizes – with a few good strokes and some golfer’s luck! Your co-chairs, Mary Lou Peters and Sandy Pudifin, are already busy finding imaginative, “wild” gifts for the winners. We can make better choices for all aspects of the event if we know that YOU are coming. The numbers that sign up determine the amount of money that we have to spend on everything. A full field of participants – 36 twosomes – will make the “hunting” fun for all!

Following is a sign-up sheet with all information that we need. Please take a moment to fill it out now. You will each be receiving attractive Safari themed “save the date” cards to send to your guests. Please join us, Mary Lou and Sandy.
