CASE STUDY: SPONSORSHIP ACTIVATION

We partnered with VERIZON to cultivate programs and an atmosphere designed to allow our Media Center members to create in a space on the cutting edge of technology. With Verizon’s support , we have had the opportunity to produce bi-annual DEMO DAY programs since our inception that provide our members with the chance to develop their brand’s identity and showcase it to an audience of potential stakeholders, investors, press, and corporate sponsors and partners.

Verizon is also involved in the developmental process, and works side-by-side with the pitching founders as they define their innovative projects.

Further more, with our Verizon sponsored WiFi and private phone booths, members are provided with the technical infrastructure they need on a daily basis to make their business successful.

The grand prize included 10K cash, a community workspace membership for 6 months, and a chance to pitch to Phil Wiser and Hearst executives.

THE FUTURE MEDIA SERIES focuses on uncovering trends within media and technology that are beginning to impact the industry, including virtual reality, the internet of things, experiential design, and more. This series brought together the creators of four outstanding VR pieces from Sundance New Frontiers to talk through their experiences while creating compelling VR works. As a second component of this series, we also created The Brooklyn Media Breakfast--a new monthly breakfast series highlighting innovators who push the boundaries of media and technology. In January, we hosted an interview with pioneers of experiential design, Layne Braunstein of Fake Love and James George of Specular. The interview covered topics like how they conceptualized an installation, created an emotional response, and where they see the future of media heading.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTSThe vision for the Media Center programming is to provide high level professional development to our members and the public alike. We host a mix of events discussing large scale trends on the future of media in conjunction with programs providing the fundamentals of running a successful creative business.

We also host one-dayBOOTCAMPS as part of this series, which are intensives that focus on building and running a creative business. Past examples included the “Breaking into the World of Video Journalism" Bootcamp covering pitching techniques, contracts, budgets, client management - all the basic tools needed to navigate professional life as a video journalist .
