history and philosophy

environmental policy

Tales From The Earth was founded in 1991 by John DeCosta and Jo Culf, two designers who had spent many years

visiting and being inspired by a diversity of landscapes and cultures. From these travels across the globe, we quickly realized that people, the world over, are bound by the same themes of everyday life. Whether living in the heart of London or on the African savannas, we are all concerned with the same issues: love, friendship, protection, health.

We want to say thank you or good luck to someone. We want to mark a birth or celebrate a coming of age. And always - always - we want to say I love you. These themes form the foundation of Tales’ silver jewellery and keepsakes collections. Our designs, each with a bespoke message or story, are handmade to the highest quality and can be given for any and all of life’s milestone occasions.

Tales From The Earth endeavours to conduct all business in an environmentally-friendly manner. In our London office, we operate a strict recycling policy and use eco-friendly products wherever possible. In the creation and production of our designs at various workshops overseas, we adhere to a strict fair trade policy with our silversmiths. Although our contribution isn’t huge on a global scale, we believe our efforts do make a difference.

Tales From The Earth has a long tradition of creating bespoke designs for clients. This may range from a single piece to a small, theme-based collection. We can create pieces to any pricepoint and offer guidance on design and production-related questions. To cover development costs (tools, dies, waxcarving), we normally require a commitment to minimum quantities. If you would like to discuss bespoke designs further, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

packaging Packaging is important to us. Apart from branding a collection, it turns an object into a gift and helps create an emotional response to a range. With the exception of one or two pieces that require bespoke packaging, each Tales From The Earth design comes in a luxurious satin pouch to keep it safe. When you read the price of a design in this catalogue, you willsee a boxed price in parentheses beside it; this is thewholesale cost of that piece packaged in one of our lusciouspresentation boxes, with satin ribbon and cushion. If you do choose to sell our designs in boxes, we suggest you place one presentation box in the centre of your display; this will unify the overall story and show your customer how gorgeous the final gift will be.

sales and point-of-sale Our stories sell our designs and it is important that you display the story cards with the pieces. The collection has also been created as an overall story and it is equally important that the pieces are displayed together. Our designs sell extremely well as gifts for special occasions. For example, Life’s Charms Box and All The Luck And Love Box are perfect christening and wedding presents. Our Travel Charm is great for students going on a gap year. Feel free to think creatively when suggesting gifts to your customers!

We have created point-of-sale to help make your display layout easier. The perspex block, with a slot cut in for the story card, fits any Tales From the Earth design. The pillow pack tray holds up to eight packs. They are invaluable props that will send sales soaring. We also recommend that you clean display pieces once a week to avoid tarnishing. Tales From The Earth has created its own high quality silver polishing cloth, which we wholesale. If your order with us is carriage paid (£300), you will automatically receive one free.

terms and conditions of tradeAll prices quoted in this catalogue are exclusive of VAT at the current rate and postage. Prices may be subject to alteration without notice. Our minimum order is £150. Carriage is charged at £10; orders of £300 or more are carriage paid within the UK.

Please notify Tales From The Earth of any damaged goods within 14 days of receipt. We will issue a credit note for these pieces, to be used against a future invoice. We regret we cannot accept any claim for damaged goods after this period.

A 15% restocking fee will be charged for any non-faulty goods returned, subject to our approval.

Note: all of our products are sold in multiples of the pack quantity quoted in the catalogue and price list. All goods invoiced remain the absolute property of Tales From The Earth Ltd until payment has been received in full.

We will exercise our statutory right to claim interest (at 8% above the Bank Of England base rate) and compensation for debt recovery costs under the Late Payment legislation, if we are not paid according to our agreed terms.

Note: the placing of an order will confirm acceptance of the above terms.

Once upon a time, Jo nearly pulled her hair out while searching for an unusual christening gift for her goddaughter; there simply wasn’t anything out there.
