PepsiCo and Theo Müller Choose Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region as Site to Launch Yogurt BusinessPepsiCo, the world’s second largest snack and beverage company, and Theo Müller, Germany’s largest privately owned dairy business, have chosen the Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region as the site for their first yogurt producing facility in the United States. Through the joint venture Muller Quaker Dairy, the companies will invest $206 million and create 186 new manufacturing and support jobs to operate a state-of-the-art facility at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park in Batavia.

“This is a huge win for the Greater Rochester Region’s economy,” said Greater Rochester Enterprise President and CEO Mark S. Peterson. “We have become a food and beverage leader, with more than 100 companies that have the resources they need to be successful.”

Muller Quaker Dairy chose the Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region because of its strong workforce, abundant milk supply, proximity to major markets and fresh water supply.

“This project demonstrates that leading international companies like PepsiCo and Müller see New York as a premier place to invest and the natural choice for their first venture into the yogurt business,” said New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. “With more than $200 million in private investment and nearly 200 new jobs, this opportunity is another strong boost to the region’s growing dairy industry.”

While the facility is being developed over two years, Muller Quaker Dairy may import Müller products in order to establish a foothold in the fast-growing U.S. yogurt business. New York State, through Empire State Development, will provide Muller Quaker Dairy with $3.3 million in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits, as well as $1 million from NYS Homes & Community Renewal and a $10 million NYS Investment Tax Credit. Genesee County will also provide an estimated $12 million in sales and property tax savings.

PepsiCo’s investment continues a strong recent trend of major yogurt producers opening manufacturing facilities in New York. Colombia-based Alpina Foods is in the process of building its first-ever North American manufacturing facility at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park to produce yogurt.

MAXIMUS Brings 350 Jobs to Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region

Optimation Technology, Inc. has acquired the assets of New Hampshire-based Kingsbury Corporation to form “Kingsbury, an Optimation Company.” Kingsbury Corporation has a long history in the design and manufacturing of special-purpose, high-production metal-cutting assembly equipment, turning systems and machining centers. This acquisition is expected to add up to 100 jobs in the Greater Rochester Region over the next two years.

Optimation will relocate Kingsbury’s equipment and manufacturing operations to its current

fabrication shop in Rochester, requiring an additional 150,000 sq. ft. of space. Optimation provides design, engineering, construction and maintenance services for industrial clients throughout the U.S. and the world. Adding the machining and fabrication capabilities of Kingsbury Corporation expands the capabilities of Optimation’s “concept to completion” business model even further.

“This addition will allow us to be not only a fabricator but also a custom machine builder, providing more complete manufacturing

facilities for our clients,” said Optimation Technology President and CEO Bill Pollock.

Kingsbury’s 135-year legacy includes a leadership role in the fabrication of machines to manufacture parts for the automotive industry. Optimation plans to diversify this focus to include web-based manufacturing machines for a variety of industries, as well as high-speed assembly machines for the medical industry.

Optimation Technology, Inc. Announces Acquisition and Expansion

Intrinsiq Materials, Quintel USA and Omni-ID are growing their operations in the Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region. Hiring could grow to 250 new jobs with significant current and planned investments.

“This is a true success story, one that shows what can be accomplished when the public and private sectors work together to rebuild the upstate economy and advertise its assets to the world,” said State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

Intrinsiq Materials, a leading nano materials company, has opened its Rochester Printed Electronic Ink Laboratory. To date, the company has hired seven people for application and customer service of its highly functional electronic inks.

A provider of next-generation antenna systems for mobile networks, Quintel USA has hired 20 employees and established a state-of-the-art antenna measurement facility. The company also launched a new industry-leading product, MultiWav, and signed a manufacturing agreement with IEC Electronics for new products developed in Rochester.

Omni-ID, a leading inventor, manufacturer and supplier of passive UHF (RFID) technology solutions for asset tracking to Fortune 500 companies globally, doubled its revenue in 2011 from the prior year. The company employs 12 people locally and just launched the world’s first Visual Tagging System, which displays readable information on moving assets in real time.

Intrinsiq Materials, Quintel USA and Omni-ID are Open for Business

MAXIMUS, a leading provider of health and human services worldwide, is expanding its local operations in the Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region. The company will consolidate and relocate several of its critical program operations currently located in Pennsylvania and Upstate New York to its new location in Monroe County.

MAXIMUS expects to add more than 350 administrative and clinical jobs, including doctors, nurses and clinicians, in the next 12 months. The investment to expand its operations in Rochester, N.Y. is expected to result in the creation and retention of almost $120 million in payroll wages to spur local economic growth.

“We chose Monroe County because of the great labor market, the potential that this region offers us for future growth, and the attractive economic development incentives available here in New York State,” said Bruce Caswell, president and general manager of MAXIMUS. “Rochester has an excellent pool

of qualified professionals with the right work ethic.”

“This project demonstrates how the effective leadership of Governor Cuomo is improving New York’s ability to attract big companies to invest and create jobs in New York,” said Lieutenant Governor Robert J. Duffy.

In addition to Excelsior tax credits, Monroe County will provide more than $200,000 in tax abatements.

Omni-ID makes radio frequency identification technology that global manufacturers like Toyota use to track assets. Intrinsiq Materials opened its Printed Electronic Ink Laboratory, producing highly efficient electronic inks. Quintel USA established a state-of-the-art spherical antenna measurement facility to pave the way for the next generation of antenna systems for the world’s biggest mobile network providers. These companies are growing every day and are well on their way to creating 250 jobs for our region.

Another new organization to enter the Rochester Region is the NY-BEST Commercialization Center. Thanks to the Center, companies like Ultralife will be able to get more of their battery energy storage projects to market through prototyping, testing and pilot manufacturing. A new report from Lux Research says that as solar and wind technology gain market share in the world of energy production, there will be an increasing need for quality energy storage. The NY-BEST Commercialization Center is helping to meet that need, further solidifying the Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region’s leadership role as a hub for energy innovation and creating a projected 220 local jobs in the process.

The national demand for Greek-style yogurt is at an all-time high, and we are meeting that need, as well. NY-BEST Outlines Plans for Advanced Battery and Energy Storage Product Commercialization Center Representatives of the New York Battery and Energy Storage Consortium (NY-BEST)

– a statewide enterprise of battery and energy storage companies, universities and

industry partners – held a kick-off event to detail its plans to create a clean energy

commercialization center. The Center will play an integral role in helping take more highly

profitable battery and energy storage projects from conception to the market through

prototyping, testing and pilot manufacturing.

“New York is a national leader in jobs in the battery sector and is home to global leaders in

energy storage technology research and development,” said Dr. William Acker, executive

director of NY-BEST. “The NY-BEST Commercialization Center project will work directly with

private sector companies and research institutions to translate the state’s extensive R&D

assets into technology manufacturing and job growth right here in New York.”

The NY-BEST initiative is expected to create 220 high-tech jobs over the next five years.

Last December, the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council announced

$3.5 million in state funding to establish a center that will provide access to an array

of services and equipment, accelerating the development and commercial viability of
