Term 1 Week 11 Monday 8th April 2019
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
How time flies when you're having fun!! We have had such a busy, but wonderful Term 1 at Coal Point PS. I
thank everyone in our school community for their outstanding work over the term. To our teachers, thanks for your
dedication, care of the kids and outstanding practice over the term. To our office ladies and GA, thanks so much for
all of the work you do everyday to keep us running smoothly. To all of our volunteers and P&C members, thanks for
your contributions to canteen, readers, in class help, gardening, uniform shop, and all of the other little everyday
things that help our great school. Most importantly, thank you to the beautiful kids, who make coming to work such a
delight.
Congratulations and thank you to Mrs Addis, Mrs McKensey and all of the working bee volunteers for your amazing
work on Sunday. The grounds look terrific and it has really opened up and freshened the space in and around the
gardens. Please see the information from the ladies further in this newsletter. Thank you to the Jensen family of Oz
Landscape Supplies for their generous donations.
I look forward to seeing our dedicated members and a few new faces at our end of term P&C meeting this
Wednesday evening in the staffroom from 7pm. Please come along if you can to help us get organised for our next
Election Day BBQ (which looks like it will be in May) and our Colour Fun run later in the year.
Easter Hat Parade will be held this Friday 12th April. It is one of the most special days of the year, when all of the
children come in their Easter hats, have a fun day together and celebrate the great term we have had. Please come
along from 11.20am for Peer Support Easter activities with lunch to follow at 12.15pm. The parade will begin at
approximately 1.15pm. Please bring your picnic chair or rug to watch the parade and have lunch with your kids,
grandkids, family. Everyone is welcome!!!
Our Term 2 Planner is attached to this newsletter with upcoming events for next term. Permission notes for
Choralfest to be held on Tuesday, 7th May will come home with Primary Choir students this week. Permission notes
for our School Athletics Participation Carnival on Thursday, 9th May are coming home today.
POSITION VACANT: The canteen committee has a position opening for taking over the canteen roster commencing
Term 2. This includes monitoring the online roster, confirming volunteers and replacing last minute vacancies due to
illness. For more details please contact Sibella on 0406169144. The canteen roster is available at: https://

Lastly, please keep an eye out for our school over the holidays and call School Security on 1300 88 00 21 if you feel
anything is out of sorts. The vandalism over the Christmas holidays was awful and made it a very hard start to the
year. Keep on an eye out for all of the kids - it takes a village as they say. Have a wonderful break over Easter.
School resumes for the children on Tuesday 30th April.
Happy Easter!!!
Kind regards,
Ms Kim Creswell
Principal

Woolworths Earn & Learn 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn is back and it is now easier than ever to earn valuable equipment for Coal
Point Public School. In the last campaign, more than 16,000 schools and Early Learning Centres benefited from the program, boosting supplies in classrooms, libraries, music rooms, gymnasiums and science labs.
Coal Point Public School collected the most stickers, out of all schools who had a collection box at Toronto Woolworths, during the last Earn and Learn program. We were able to choose some fantastic equipment from Modern Teaching Aids to use across the whole school. These resources included: Mathematics teaching resources and games, art supplies, Literacy resources and games, world globes, stationery and jigsaw puzzles.
It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 1st May until Tuesday 25th June 2019 or while stock lasts, when you and your family members shop at Woolworths they can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the checkout operator, via team members at the self-service checkout or through an online order and place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. There will be one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco, and gift cards). Once completed, simply place the Sticker Sheet in the Collection Box, either at our school or at Toronto Woolworths.
Your support in this fantastic program would be greatly appreciated by all staff, students and family members of the school. We would love to earn some new, exciting resources and equipment for our kids!
Mrs Megan Pring
Yesterday, an awesome team of hardworking parents and children did more than we imagined possible at the garden working bee, and we had lots of fun too! The pavers have been laid, ready for the new raised vegetable beds to be installed. Weeds, self-seeded trees and spiky plants have been removed from the gardens behind the stage and toilet block, and the areas have all been mulched. Oz Landscape Supplies kindly donated materials used during the working bee. A huge thank you to all who helped! Next time you are at school, please take a moment to appreciate the improvements around the school gardens.
If you missed out on this working bee, you'll be welcome to join in the fun next term as we will organise another, to plant out new seedlings in the areas we have just cleared.
A yellow handled spade was collected at the end of the working bee. If you left this behind, please contact the office and we'll arrange to return it to you.
Happy gardening over the holidays! Sarah and Libby (Project Coordinators)

Congratulations to all students on a great day of competition in
the slightly soggy conditions at our Cross Country carnival held
last Thursday 4th April at Tulkaba Oval, Teralba.
Students also had the opportunity to complete an AFL skills
session, run by Molly and Sam from AFL NSW/ACT. Thank you
to Craig from AFL NSW/ACT for once again supporting our
school. Thank you to Ray from the Lake Macquarie Dockers
AFL Club for running the canteen for us. I encourage anyone
who is interested in playing AFL to look up the Lake Macquarie
Dockers.
Final results from the carnival are published below. The top 4
competitors will be invited to attend the Zone Cross Country
Carnival, which will be held early next term. Zone Carnival
Information will be sent home as soon as it comes to hand.
Finally, I would like to thank Mrs McKensey and Mr Thompson
for helping with setup and layout of the course on the morning
of the carnival. Thanks to our field officials; Mrs McKensey, Mrs
Day, Mrs Pegler, Mrs Blake, Mrs Craft and Mrs Leach, for their
encouragement and support of our runners during their races.
And a huge thank you to everyone who stepped in to help out
with a quick pack-up when it looked like we were going to be
rained out towards the end of the day!
Mrs Sell & Mrs Wawrzonek
