team if there are any concerns.Year 12The school will have the opportunity to farewell our students at an assembly on Tuesday followed by a morning tea for Year 12 students with the staff. We ask that parents and students pay the $30 to the office and complete the information on Compass by the end of this week for the activity into Albury/Wodonga on the final day, Wednesday, 23rd October. The college has expectations of our students that their final day will be an opportunity for them to celebrate with each other and there will be no activities which disrupt other students or the college program. Students are reminded of the consequences of actions which cause any disruption or damage to college property and this includes not attending the graduation. A reminder that the Graduation will be held at the Albury Entertainment Centre on Friday, 22nd November. The completed booking sheet and payment should be given to the school office by Friday, 25th October. Students can have 9 guests on their table and the tickets are $47 for an adult and $17 for children. All students have received exam information and are reminded to read the information given to them. All exams are being held in the Tallangatta Sports Complex. Staff are available to assist students once their classes finish, but they must make the arrangements with the teachers, not just expect that they will be available. The attitude of students to their study this term has been excellent and we look forward to this continuing for the remainder of their time here. A reminder to students and their families that staff at the college can assist with pathway decisions including preparation with job applications and identifying training options. Mrs McKenzie and members of the Later Years team are available to provide advice and assistance.Year 11Our new school captains attended their first Student Leadership Team meeting on Thursday and we look forward to their ideas for the school for the remainder of this year and into 2020. SNAKES….As I was in the corridor yesterday, I chatted with a young student about his home life and then he showed me a picture of a very large looking snake his family had seen over the weekend in their yard.As you are all aware Snakes are on the move as it is getting warmer. Be aware, but not alarmed works good with me normally, however snakes do concern me. Looking at ways to prevent encountering one is always good, try to keep the grass around the house short, avoid when you can of going in the long grass, be vigilant when moving things in the yard.I thought it would be beneficial to provide some refreshing information that each family can discuss with each other just incase someone is unfortunately bitten.

BITES: A dry bite is when the snake strikes but no venom is released. Dry bites will be painful and may cause swelling and redness around the area of the snake bite.Venomous bites are when the snake bites and releases venom (poison) into a wound. Snake venom contains poisons which are designed to stun, numb, or kill other animals.

FIRST AID FOR SNAKE BITESFor all snake bites, provide emergency care including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if needed. Call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage and keep the person calm and as still as possible until medical help arrives.Avoid washing the bite area because any venom left on the skin can help identify the snake.DO NOT apply a tourniquet, cut the wound or attempt to suck the venom

out.Pressure immobilisation bandageA pressure immobilisation bandage is recommended for anyone bitten by a venomous snake. This involves firmly bandaging the area of the body involved, such as the arm or leg, and keeping the person calm and still until medical help arrives.Follow these steps to apply a pressure immobilisation bandage: -First put a pressure bandage over the bite itself. It should be tight and you should not be able to easily slide a finger between the bandage and the skin.-Then use a heavy crepe or elasticised roller bandage to immobilize the whole limb. Start just above the fingers or toes of the bitten limb, and move upwards on the limb as far as the body. Splint the limb including joints on either side of the bite.Keep the person and the limb completely at rest. If possible, mark the site of the bite on the bandage with a pen.
