Birth centenary celebrations of
Professor Xavier Stanislaus THANINAYAGAM
In many countries across the World plans are underway to celebrate the unparalleled
contributions of THANINAYAGAM ADIKAL a versatile Tamil Scholar, Founding President of
the International Tamil Research Conference, Author, Teacher and above all an Ambassador of
Tamil language and culture in the international academic forum.
His remarkable contributions toward the furtherance of Tamil research on par with other
classical languages and literatures was initiated by founding the International Tamil Research
Institute in Delhi in 1964 and subsequently it was named International Tamil Research
Conference (TRC) he personally took the leadership and organized the first four conferences.
To promote Tamil research he edited and published an academic journal named Tamil Culture in
the 1960s and 1970s. Today the publication continues under the name Journal of Tamil Studies
and is published by the International Institute of Tamil Studies in Chennai, India.
We consider it our bounden duty as Tamils of Eelam to celebrate the legacy he has left behind
and to continue the great g heritage he has entrusted to the Tamil community the world over. It is
our fervent hope that Tamil Canadians will generously contribute their time, energy, service,
talents, skills and resources to make the centenary celebrations a memorable event in Canada.
The Centenary Celebrations in Canada will include the following:
