Professional Lecturers TKU CLC is well-known for having a team of professional Chinese lecturers. Teachers are all graduated from Chinese teaching-related faculties and over 95% of them obtain the Ministry of Education Chinese Teaching Certificate. Some of them are honored with the TOCFL committee members while others experience teaching Chinese at overseas universities. Some of them are specially appointed for supervising teacher training courses.

It is close to MRT Dong-men and next to Yong Kang Street, which has remarkable Chinese cuisine in surrounding. Chinese Language Center

Course Info.

The Chinese Language Center is offered by Division of Continuing Education, Tamkang University. To enhance the learning process,stu-dents can choose from a wide range of programs, professional lec-tures, and excellent learning resources.

Tamsui CampusTamsui Campus was built with the goal of establishing a comprehensive research university, one that “creates knowledge.” It now comprises 8 colleges, 35 de-partments, 50 masters programs, 21 executive masters programs, 17 doctoral programs, and 19 research centers. Tamsui Campus aims to become a “City of Intellect” by taking pioneering steps to advance the frontiers of scholarship and research.

Taipei CampusTaipei Campus focuses on continuing education. Instruction is oriented toward the practical and emphasizes both theory and practice in order to cultivate profession-als with a unique educational background. The Division of Continuing Education comprises an In-Service Education Center, an Extension Education Center, as well as Japanese, Chinese and a Professional License Training Center. The mission of the Taipei Campus is to enhance the ability of the workforce through continuing education.

Course InformationThe Regular Chinese Program is designed for students who are studying Chinese as a second language. Each term consists of 15 weeks and new classes commence monthly. Instruction is provided all year round and classes are arranged in varying levels, from elementary to advanced. Classes are held at the Taipei Campus. (Ac-commodation and meals are not included.)

Class MaterialThe“Practical Audio-Visual Chinese”series include 5 volumes for different levels of Chinese proficiency. It is one of the most prestigious, complete and practical Chinese teaching materials available in Taiwan. It includes textbooks, teacher manuals, student workbooks, as well as CDs and VCDs. For vocabulary and sample sentences, there are both Phonetic Symbols and Hanyu Pinyin.Volumes I & II are suitable for beginners to practice Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Volume III & IV introduce cultural differences and the current state of Taiwan, focusing on daily life usage and improving communication skills. It includes short essays and cartoons, with emphasis on classroom activities and open discussions. Volume V uses articles from magazines and newspapers, along with narratives, arguments and radio drama, focusing on improving writing and conversation skills.

Course InformationCome to Taiwan during Summer vacation! For those of you who have little or no Chinese background but are eager to learn Chinese intensively, we have designed a special summer program to meet your needs. Spend 3 to 6 weeks in the splendid Tamkang University starting with a professional placement test to assign you to the most suitable class. Lectures are held in small classes to ensure teaching quality.Each week consists of a full 20 hours of lectures plus outing on Wednesday.We will also provide a counselor to assist you throughout your stay in Taiwan during the program. Surely you will experience so much fun in learning Chinese. Meals and accommodation are included and the program holding place is at Tamsui campus.

Class MaterialOur teaching material “Fun with Chinese” is designed for the Intensive Chinese Language Program and consists of 5 separate levels of difficulty. Its main theme is to introduce daily life in Taiwan, with topics such as ordering food, shopping, culture, etc.The material emphasizes language structure and function, and will also introduce broader Taiwanese culture. Students will gain skills in Chinese pronunciation and become fluent in simple conversations. They will then be taught to recognize basic characters, phrases and sentence structures. The focus of the advanced level is attaining fluency in spoken Chinese, comprehension and the use of written forms. Culture is touched on in each of the five levels, from topics to do with night market culture to traditional festivals. Users of this textbook are entitled to the complimentary access to its interactive educational website.

Course InformationThe Chinese Special Summer Program combines the Regular Chinese Language Program in the morning with cultural activities at the Taipei Campus in the afternoon. The program is 8 weeks long spanning July to August. Students can choose to enroll for multiple weeks; the starting week does not need to be Week1.(Accommodation is not included.)

Class MaterialStudents of this program take classes of the Regular Chinese Language Program, using the same teaching material, “Practical Audio-Visual Chinese”.

Culture ClassCulture Class include Chinese knot, Calligraphy, Cookery, Paper Cutting, etc.

AccommodationReitaku International House is a modern on-campus dormitory built for international students from Reitaku University (Japan) and exchange students from Tamkang’s sister universities worldwide. It also houses local Taiwanese students. Recently refurbished, the Reitaku International House features spacious rooms equipped with the modern amenities.

Sung-tao Hall is an on-campus female dormitory that accommodates close to 2000 students, with 4 students per room. The rooms are air-conditioned, and come with beds, desks, chairs, bookshelves, lights, wardrobes, a telephone and pay-per-use Internet. Shared amenities include pay phones, a common lounge, study room, coin-operated laundry, simple cooking equipment, and refrigerators. Downstairs from the dorm is a food court where lunch and dinner are served. During the summer, Sung-tao Hall opens to male students as well, with gender separate floors.

Hui-wen HallHui-wen Hall is a four-story on-campus guest house. It offers 17 single suites and 8 double suites. The first floor is for administrative offices; the 2nd to 4th floors are guest rooms. There is also a gym and observatory area located on the top floor. All rooms are equipped with Internet, air-conditioning, a TV, refrigerator and washroom. (Extra charges may apply for this lodging option.)

Dan Jiang HallThe Dan Jiang Hall is an off-campus, co-ed student dormitory about a 5-10 minute walk from the TKU Tamsui Campus. It is a new, 14-story building that comprises a wide range of amenities, including a gym and the latest entertainment facilities. At Dan Jiang Hall, 3-4 students are housed in each room. Rooms are air-conditioned, and include beds, desks, chairs, bookshelves, lights, wardrobes, a sink, a simple bathroom (with shower and toilet), Internet and a telephone. The dorm is located in a bustling area with plenty of restaurants.
