Congratulations! Now that you are engaged, let the fun (and planning)begin. Whether it is a small, intimate wedding or an extravagant affair, there are lots of ideas and inspiration within the pages of Tampa BayWeddings. From Bridal Style to Groom Style to Cake and Flower ideas, ourgoal is to provide a variety of looks to make the process easier.

In Real Weddings, local brides shared their beautiful and romanticstories. Although reluctant at first to have a planner, these brides agree that having a wedding plannercertainly reduced stress and made the entire processmore fun.

The Gown Guide offers suggestions on the latesttrends from Tampa Bay area bridal boutique ownersand top designers, so each bride-to-be will look herbest on the big day. The spectacular waters andexotic location of Mexico with sunny skies and warmtemperatures, is a wonderful location for a honey-moon. The RIU resorts offer numerous locations inMexico, but we discovered the RIU Palace Mexicoin Playa del Carmen region. The all-inclusive resorthas recently been renovated and provides great service and amenities.

Several local photographers and a team of talented individualscreated four spectacular Inspiration shoots. We were fortunate to haveJonathan Fanning’s Game of Thrones inspired images. As a team conceptwith Sandy Rule, of Sandy Rule Events and Stephanie and Marty Prenatt,of FH Weddings & Events, the images are stunning. Burkle Events andphotography by Esther Louise produced the Mod Shoot. Two localhotels the Epicurean in Tampa, and the Birchwood in St. Petersburg, arefeatured in Inspiration shoots by Theresa NeSmith Photography andLimelight Photography.

We received some expert tips from Puff ’n Stuff’s executive chef, CathyMichaud, in Ask The Experts. Chef Michaud provides great ideas for hostingthe bachelorette party, bridal shower, or tea party brunch.

For the latest bridal information and ideas, be sure to visit our websiteat www.tampabaywed.com and be sure to “Like Us” on Facebook atTampa Bay Weddings. It’s All In The DetailsGown Trends | By Ronda M. Parag

also seen the incorporation of new fabrics with more texture, like mohair and hammered silks, along with different variationsof lace,” Rooney says.

There is interplay of delicate textures, sheer layers and softwashes of color in the White by Vera Wang collection, at David’sBridal. “We are seeing a lot of beading in detailed patterns …sometimes on the bodice and sheer illusion neckline, but evenmore so on the sheer open back,” agrees Megan Bubalo, ownerof Malindy Elene Couture for the Bride. “Gowns are moving, even more, towards the delicate intricacies of last season. Theback detailing has become a favorite among brides as theysearch for sleek sophisticated looks, but fun details.”

The gown must reflect how the bride wants to look andfeel on her big day. Whether a ball gown with a modernedge or a draped lace column gown, there are styles, designsand fabrics to make each bride-to-be feel that she is the starof the day.

Searching for the perfect bridal gown can be overwhelming andexhausting. Every bride we’ve ever asked, says they know it is“the dress” the moment they put it on. Kerrie Hileman, owner ofThe White Magnolia Bridal Collection offers these suggestions:“When picking a gown, be open-minded and don’t over think it.When looking for a gown it’s important to find something that fitsyour everyday style and is going to complement you, not over-whelm you. Bring the people who mean the most to you and whounderstand your style and vision for your big day. And mostimportantly, remember to pick a gown that you will want to lookback on thirty years from now, and know that you will still love it!”

There is something magical that is hard to describe. Manygirls continue to search, but most come back to the gown thatmade them feel simply beautiful.

MaryIsabel Rooney, owner of Isabel O’Neil Bridal Collectionin Tampa, says that sheer or illusion necklines and low backswith lots of detail are the current trends in bridal gowns. “I have

Bachelorette Party | Every bridedeserves a “cheat” day, and what betterway to spend it than with your girls. Ifshe loves BBQ, consider mini sliders andpigs in a blanket. If she’s a pasta lover, introduce a chef-attended pasta station, like lobster mac ‘n cheese. If chocolate isher weakness, then go bold with a sweettreat that’s worth the cheat, like the CX7(chocolate 7 ways).

EXPERT TIP: Target your selectionsto the bride’s absolute favorites and pairthem with a few less indulgent options.

Bridal Shower | A bespoke-craftedbridal shower with innovative comfort

food is a fun trend we are seeing a lot ofrecently. For this kind of at home eventwe recommend serving childhoodfavorites with an elegant twist, such assoup and sandwich featuring a tomatobisque shooter topped with grilledcheese, or one of our favorites, TheChicken In The Egg, which is a deliciouscombination of deviled eggs and spicySouthern fried chicken.

EXPERT TIP: Build a cohesivemenu that complements the bride’staste and style, as well as the theme.

Tea Party Brunch | Some populardishes for this themed event include

mini quiches, cold orzo salads, fruit andcheese displays and an array of assorteddesserts, such as a hazelnut latte shotwith petite donuts and mini pies.

Photos: The ceremony was held one hour before sunset in the weddingpavilion on the lake at the JW Marriott in Orlando; With a fall theme inmind, Megan wanted her flowers to represent the season with Mango callalilies, pin cushion protea, leucadendron, hypericun, orange unique rosescaged with curly willow; Matt had 7 groomsman who were his brothers, bestfriends in life and medical school and Megan’s son, Conner, as his jr.groomsman; Flowers topped the cake created by The Ritz Carlton and guestswere offered a slice of both carrot cake with cream cheese frosting andalmond cake with buttercream frosting.

Page 59: Tampa Bay Weddings Magazine

MMegan and Matthew (Matt) met through a mutual friend, like many couples. They were introduced to each other during a group outing at Hula Bay, inAugust 2009. They started conversing and things were going well. The groupproceeded to the next place, where Matt’s car was subsequently towed. Luckilyfor Matt, Megan had a friend who offered to drive Matt to the impound lot, where Matt discovered he had a flat tire. Luckily, Megan’s friend also knewsomeone who ran an all-night tire shop. Ultimately, Matt was able to get home.

Megan, being impressed by Matt’s extreme patience, decided to give him acall, but not until two weeks later. A date was arranged with Thai food followedby dessert. Matt was impressed with Megan’s beauty, wit, and laid backapproach to life. Megan was impressed with Matt’s hair.

The happy couple bought a home in December 2010 and had a daughter,Brooklyn Rose on March 1, 2011, the same birth date as her dad, Matt. Priorto the proposal, Matt did ask Megan’s father for his blessing and he proposedon the roof of their home. With no clear direction on what they wanted, thecouple reluctantly met with wedding planner, Christina Craft from Ideal DesignEvents. “I didn’t think I needed a planner,” Megan recalls. After meeting forhours, they hired her the next day to assist with their wedding. The couplesearched for the perfect venue to suit them and eventually decided on the JWMarriott in Orlando, where the couple enjoyed many wonderful family trips. Many of the vendors including the planner, photographer, DJ, floral designer, and hair and makeup team, all traveled to Orlando for the wedding.

The bridal party was filled with family and friends. Megan had eightbridesmaids and Matt had seven groomsmen. Megan’s bridesmaids consistedof college and medical school friends and a sister-in-law. Megan’s daughter,Kayla, served as a junior bridesmaid and daughter, Brooklyn, as a flower girl.

In keeping with wedding tradition, Megan borrowed her grandmashankerchiefs for the bouquet. I borrowed by my cousin’s blue shoes. “The nightbefore the wedding, Brooklyn was walking around in shoes and she was pottytraining and peed in my shoes,” laughs Megan. “We spent an hour cleaning them.”

Megan says that her wedding was a wedding weekend, it wasn’t just a day.“Friday, as guests arrived they were welcomed to the resort with welcomebaskets full of snacks, info and gifts. Friday night the bridal party and gueststook a luxury coach to the Columbia Restaurant at Celebration for rehearsaldinner, but when we came back, we had a huge welcome party in the lobbybar,” said Megan. “Matt (with Craft’s help) surprised me with a birthday cakeand gifts (it was my birthday — he said this was why he wouldn’t forget ouranniversary) and the welcome party turned into a birthday party.”

Saturday, guests enjoyed the lazy river in the resort pool, before heading tothe wedding. The party didn’t stop ’til 4:30 a.m.

Sunday, a five-course brunch was served with an open bar at 10 a.m., andall the guests had breakfast, then went to the resort pool. “We all said ourgoodbye’s around 4 p.m.,” said Megan.

The couple enjoyed a honeymoon in New York City.

Prior to proposing, Michael asked AnneMarie’s father for her parent’s blessingand her father helped plan the engagement surprise. While both families thoughtthey were enjoying a joint theme park trip to Walt Disney World, Michael hadother ideas. He got down on one knee and proposed by the rose garden in frontof Cinderella’s Castle. “They had no idea they were going to witness a proposal,”AnneMarie said. “It was truly a magical moment.”

The couple started planning, but then stopped and started several times dueto Michael’s commission to become a pilot in the US Navy. Finally, finding avenue and time that fit their schedule, AnneMarie decided she needed a planner.Through a friend’s recommendation, they met with Christina Craft, owner ofIdeal Design Events. “We met for five minutes when I knew this was the girl tohelp me,” said AnneMarie. “She made wedding planning fun. If I was stressed, one call calmed me down. I had no idea how much went into a wedding. It wasdifficult at the end because I had to move two months before the wedding, so wedid phone meetings and Skype for décor and anything visual.”

Several things that could have been disastrous were easily remedied byhaving a planner. Just a few days before the wedding ceremony, the officiant hada family emergency in the Philippines, so Craft contacted another pastor, who ina short time wrote a beautiful ceremony, after a conference call with AnneMarieand Michael. At the last minute, AnneMarie’s sister and maid of honor, whoserves in the U.S. Marine Corps, was called to participate in training exercisesand she could not leave her base. As a surprise to the bride, Craft arranged toSkype her into the wedding line up. “It was amazing that my wedding plannerwas able to plan that for me,” AnneMarie said. “I was balling when I finally realizedshe could see the whole thing and I could see her.”

When the big day arrived, AnneMarie recalls that she could not stop smiling.“Michael looked so handsome in his uniform and I just stared at him the entiretime. I was so ready to become husband and wife with all our loved ones thereto witness.”

Following tradition, AnnMarie had her something blue, which was Michael’sname tape off of his navy blue camo uniform sewn into the inside of her dress, anew piece of jewelry, and a borrowed hair clip from her cousin, who wore it whenshe got married early in the year.

Due to Michael’s training schedule for flight school, the couple delayed ahoneymoon, but do hope to go to Europe in the future.

RRachel McCarthy met her future husband, Ryan Carlock, online and dated fora year and was engaged for two years before becoming husband and wife inNovember 2013. “I wanted to wait until I graduated from law school at Stetsonand took the bar before we got married,” Rachel said.

Ryan says that after their second date when Rachel took him to a baseballgame and then ordered wings and cheese fries for dinner, she was the girl forhim. Ryan proposed on one knee just two days before Christmas 2011 andasked Rachel to open one of her presents — it was a pair of champagne flutesto toast the engagement.

Another present was a stack of wedding magazines to start the planningprocess. “We are both fairly traditional, so we knew that we wanted an elegantand classic feel for our wedding day,” Rachel said. “As soon as we walked intoArmani’s at the Grand Hyatt, we kew that was it and developed the feel of thewedding around it.”

Rachel and her mom became shopping buddies for her gown. “Wesearched for almost 8 months before I decided on my dress,” Rachel said.“Because I’m small, I knew that I wanted something a little fitted so that Ididn’t get swallowed up by yards of fabric, but I knew I had found my dress, because after all of the dresses I had tried on, it was the dress that I felt mostbeautiful in.”

Florals and decor were important to Rachel and she had followed manybridal blogs, even before she became engaged. Rachel knew that she wantedFH Weddings & Events to do their flowers. “Everything that I’ve ever seenthem do has been beautiful and when I spoke with Stephanie Prenatt, owner,we mostly talked about the feel of the bouquet and the colors,” Rachel said.“I trusted her to make something beautiful. We did talk about peonies, butbecause I got married in November, I didn’t think we would be able to getthem because they were not in season. I was so happily surprised on my wedding day to see that Stephanie had found some beautiful pink peonies, toinclude in my bouquet.”

A traditional wedding ceremony was held at Palma Ceia PresbyterianChurch, followed by a reception at Armani’s. The 70 guests enjoyed a sit downdinner with an option of steak, salmon or chicken. DJ Cory from GrantHemond provided the reception music and Rachel says he played exactly aswe asked. The couple danced the first dance to “These Arms of Mine” byOtis Redding. The couple ended the evening by enjoying conversation andcocktails with the bridal party on the terrace and a view of the Tampa skyline.

The couple enjoyed an active honeymoon in Napa Valley and SanFrancisco and ended with four nights in Cabo San Lucas, with a stay a Capellade Pedregal, where the blissful couple were able to relax and unwind.
