I would like to thank all the staff, students and parents who have contributed to a very enjoyable term at Tanilba Bay Public School. I hope all at TBPS enjoy the holiday period and get to spend some quality time with their family. Hopefully the weather is fantastic and we can take advantage of the beautiful Port Stephens Waterways. Staffing Good luck to Eleanor Roberts, teacher of KR, who went on maternity leave this week. All staff and students wish her the very best. Eleanor will not return as a teacher next term as she will be on leave for the remainder of 2014. We look forward to her return in 2015. Mrs Roberts has done a great job this year as ES1 Assistant Principal and teaching our fantastic Kindergarten students in KR. Mr Scott McBain will join our staff in Term 4 and teach KR for the remainder of the year. Parent Behaviour at School All adults need to consider and be aware about behaving appropriately on and around the school site. I have again had to deal with complaints about adults approaching and intimidating students inside the school grounds about issues which should have been reported to a staff member. This behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated as we take the safety of our students very seriously. Under no circumstance is it appropriate for a parent or visitor to our school to approach one of our students to discuss/accuse or attempt to resolve an issue between two students. If an adult has an issue with a student at our school they need to contact me or one of my Assistant Principals and allow us to deal with the issue appropriately following the appropriate Department Of Education Policy. I ask all parents to be aware of their surroundings and the specific nature of a primary school when on the school site. We are here to educate young people who range in age from 4 to 12 years of age and do not understand why adults might get angry or frustrated. Children need to know that the school is a happy and secure environment in which they can be safe. Adults need to understand that entry onto the school site is a privilege not a right and that I have authority under the provisions of the Inclosed Lands Protection Act 1901 to control access to any person behaving inappropriately. Have a happy and safe holiday everyone. I look forward to seeing you all back on deck in Term 4. Just a reminder - there is no Staff Development Day at the beginning of Term 4 but Monday 6 th October is a Public Holiday so the first day back for staff and students is Tuesday 7 th October. Lost Property – Have you lost anything recently? We have an array of items in the office which have not been claimed. If you have lost any of the following, please contact the office staff: Spiderman costume glove, blue hairband, several bracelets and rings, glasses with pink frames, hair chalk, key. NAMING EVERY ITEM OF CLOTHING IS ESSENTIAL FOR IT TO BE RETURNED TO STUDENTS ASAP. ALL LABELLED ITEMS GO THROUGH THE OFFICE TO THE CLASS TEACHER. Please do not hesitate to check with your child’s teacher as well as in HB1, as there are numerous items of unclaimed, unlabelled clothing in classrooms. If possible, it might be a good idea to write your child’s name inside the uniform items on the label and also elsewhere so that it can be seen easily but not removed easily!

Important Information about Absences If a student is absent .... Children are required by law to attend school. If your child is absent, a note of explanation is to be given to the class teacher on the child’s first day back at school. This note must contain the date of absence, explanation of absence and parent signature. A Home/School Liaison Officer visits the school regularly to check student attendance and is available to help the school and parents resolve problems affecting attendance. Pride in our Uniform Congratulations to KP who were presented with the uniform banner this fortnight. It is lovely to see our kindergarten people showing pride in our school. Next term don’t forget your hats! Have a lovely, safe holiday everyone.

Stage Three Market Day Thank you to all of the parents and caregivers of all children in the school for your wonderful support of the Stage Three Market Day held this term. It was an outstanding success and as a result, the Year 6 students will have a wonderful ‘free of charge’ Farewell and will also be able to buy the school a magnificent gift to remember them by. A special thank you goes to all of the Stage Three students themselves and their families who organised and funded their child’s venture.

It is truly appreciated by the children and the teachers. The whole school had a wonderful time!!!

Stage One Wow! This term has been so jam-packed with learning and other activities that we are already up to the holidays! It is evident to see that classes are engaged in learning to a high degree, filling their minds with more and more knowledge as they edge closer and closer to the end of the year and a new school grade. Stage 1 teachers have been very impressed with the hard work and dedication to personal best efforts shown by students in their classes throughout the term. Well done, children! This Friday, we have the Reward Day disco for the students who followed school rules and expectations at all times over the past 5 weeks. Most Stage 1 students will get to attend this fabulous event. Well done Stage 1 students and teachers, it was a huge Term 3. Rest up in the holidays, ready for another busy term full of fun and learning. Enjoy your holidays! Stage 1 teachers

5D We have had an outstanding term. The children have shown remarkable improvement across all areas of their learning. I have been very impressed with the quality of work and the effort that has been displayed in their GOLD assignments, science project and public speaking. Congratulations to Kailah, Ellie, Lily, Keenan and Chloe who all received their PBL Badge at our recent Stage assembly. The second section of the GOING FOR GOLD assignment required some more creative learning and the results are wonderful. Here we are posing proudly with our work:-

We were very fortunate this week to have Bec Rowlands visit our room and display some items that have been found on the Goldfields by her parents over the years. Items displayed included gold found through panning, coins, bottles, spoons, crystals, marbles, photographs and she relayed interesting tales of digging for gold. The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing the results of current day fossicking. Thank you to Kailah Muxlow and her family for organising this wonderful visit.

Have a wonderful holiday break! Lisa Dovey
