Step 1 Cut 1m or (40)inches beading thread and thread its both ends in your needles. With one

needle pick up a SDI, a dagger, a SDI (pic.1) and slide them to the middle of the thread

Now you have to crisscross your threads in free holes of both SDI beads you've just picked up (with right needle pass through free

holes from right to the left and then with left needle pass through free holes of both SDI beads from left to the right) pic. 2 and pic. 3.

With right needle pass through both holes of one SDI (take a SDI and then pass through free hole of same SDI in opposite direction). Then do the same with your left needle (pic.

4).

Now crisscross your threads in one SDI (take a SDI with one of your needles and with

other needle pass through same hole in opposite direction) pic. 5. Pull tight.

Then crisscross your threads in free hole of same SDI

(pic. 6).

With your right needle take a SDI and a SB, with left needle take 1 SDI (pic. 7) and crisscross your threads

in last taken SB (pic. 8).

Pull not too tight.

With your right needle take 3 SDL and 1 SB, with left needle take 3 SDL (pic. 9) and crisscross your threads in

last taken SB (pic. 10).

With your right needle take 2 SB, with left needle take 1 SB (pic. 11) and crisscross your threads in last SB on

your right needle (pic. 12).

Repeat last two steps (pic. 9, pic. 10, pic. 11, pic. 12) two more times. In right angle weave I always recommend not to pull the threads too tight, but you have to try different ways and you'll see what tension

you need.

Once you have 3 segment with SDL and 3 segments with SB you can attach the earwire. So now with your right needle pick up 1 SB and the

earwire (here if you want you can use Wire guardian - Beadalon - size 1) pic. 13, with left

needle pick up 1 SB and crisscross threads in the earwire (pic. 14). Make one or two passes through

your last segment to secure your ear wire.

Now follow arrows on the diagram and lead your threads to come out from first SDL beads of second segment. The pictures show path of only one needle.

You have to do the same with other needle.

Now continue your work using technique, which I call parallel beading. So, with right needle take 1 SDI and stitch in free hole of next closest SDL (pic. 20). Do this one more time (pic. 21) and pass through

outer SB and next SDL(pic. 22).

Add two more SDI between next SDL beads (pic. 23 and

pic. 24).

Then stitch in next closest SDI, but not in its free hole (pic. 25). then pass through next closest SDI, as well.

Do exactly same steps with your other needle.

From now on the pics and explanations are for only one of your needles, but you know that you must do same steps with other needle.

Now your both threads come out of same SDI in opposite directions. With one needle pass through other hole of same SDI in opposite direction and through

next one too (pic. 27).

Take 1 SB and stitch in free hole of next closest SDI

Go up in free hole of next closest SDI

Take 2 SDI and stitch in free hole of next closest SDI

Pass through next SDL, SB, SDL, SDI, SDL and SDI (pic. 31, 32, 33), then stitch in free hole of

last SDI in opposite direction.

SB and SDL (pic. 36, and 37).

Now take 1 SB and stitch in upper hole of next SDI and through next two as well (pic. 38).

Now pass through free hole of last SDI in opposite direction, take 1 SDI and sew in

well (pic.41).

Now sew in next SDL and SB

(pic. 43).

Make one more stitch in next closest SB in same direction (pic. 46).

Do same steps with other needle.

My name is Desislava Ivanova and I am born 40 years ago in Bulgaria. I've been always in love with crafts. My grandmother taught me to knit,

crochet, loom weaving and sewing. Five years ago I ordered from an online shop some beads for a macrame project, but when the delivery came, I found out that I made a mistake.

Instead of beads with 2 mm hole, I've ordered 2mm seed beads. My first thought was to throw them out, but then I decided to have a look for what I could use such small beads. I typed in Google "seed beads" and I entered

in a whole new world full of beauty, challenges and possibilities. Since then, Beadwork became my passion.

I love to work with seed beads and two hole beads Visit me at https://www.etsy.com/shop/DESIBEADS

Bromelia Earrings

BLOG: DIY JEWELRY MAKING ISSUE 37 BLOG: WWW.HANDMADE-JEWELRY-CLUB.COM MEMBERSHIP: WWW.DIYJEWELRYMAKING.COM

This tutorial will show you how to make a pair of Bromelia earrings using Czechmates Triangle beads, Superduo beads, Swarovski bicones and Swarovski rivolis.

Difficulty level: basic beading experience is required. You need to know how to finish thread ends and you have to be able to keep proper thread tension (however, really tight tension is not needed - a medium tension throughout the project should be fine, just

make sure there is no room between the beads).

The finished piece will be approximately 2.4 cm big. This measurement does not include earring hooks.

Materials - 2 14mm Swarovski rivolis (Crystal AB); - 14 3mm Swarovski bicones (Rose Alabaster AB); - 14 4mm Swarovski bicones (Palace Green Opal); - 14 Superduo beads (Crystal); - 28 Czechmates two hole Triangles (Polychrome – Pink); - 1g Size 11/0 Japanese seed beads (Toho TR-11-1046 Inside-color Luster Peridot/Opaque White lined); - Fireline 6 LB/Size D (Crystal); - Size 12 beading needle;

- A pair of earring hooks, jump rings and pliers to attach them.

BLOG: DIY JEWELRY MAKING ISSUE 37 BLOG: WWW.HANDMADE-JEWELRY-CLUB.COM MEMBERSHIP: WWW.DIYJEWELRYMAKING.COM

Step 1 Cut two armlengths of thread and add your needle. Leave a tail long

enough to finish and weave in later. Refer to the picture below. Create the base of the earring using 11/0 seed b eads and Triangle beads by sewing together the Triangles and adding three 11/0’s to the top and bottom. Make sure that the pointy bits of the triangles are all pointing in the same direction. Continue until you have a strip of 14 Triangle

beads.

Step 2 Join the ends of the strip created in step 1 by going through the first

Triangle bead and adding another three 11/0 seed beads. The result of this should be a (rather floppy – don’t worry, the next steps will sort this out) ring with the tops of the Triangles pointing outwards. Exit a

group of three seed beads.

Step 3 Add a Superduo bead between each group of three 11/0 seed beads.

Exiting a group of three seed beads, pick up a Superduo and go through the next group of 3 seed beads. Repeat this all the way round until you

can go through the bottom hole of the first Superduo of this round

again.

Step 4 Step up by going through the other (top) hole of the Superduo bead.

This will cause you to have to continue in the opposite direction. Now, pick up one 11/0 seed bead and go through the top hole of the next

Superduo.

Page 70: Tap & Hold the screen to show the top bar...• Interview with Yoola RECOMMENDED READINGS • Simply Beautiful Beads • Beadweaving Beyond the Basics • Christmas Time Pattern Collection

Bromelia Earrings

BLOG: DIY JEWELRY MAKING ISSUE 37 BLOG: WWW.HANDMADE-JEWELRY-CLUB.COM MEMBERSHIP: WWW.DIYJEWELRYMAKING.COM

Continue until you’re all the way round again. Exit the top hole of the Superduo you started this round with and tighten the thread. This will cause the Superduo beads to point inwards. The result is a nice, sturdy

base.

Step 5 Weave your way to the front of the beadwork. Step down through the superduo, go through a

group of three seed beads, through the Triangles and exit a group of three seed beads at the front. Now, 3mm bicones are added between the groups of three seed beads, just like you

added the Superduo beads of step 3. Pick up a 3mm bicone, go through the next group of three

seed beads, and repeat.

Step 6 Exit a group of three 11/0’s, pick up another three 11/0 seed beads and pass through the next group of seed beads. Repeat. This will form little three bead picots on top of the bicones. These

tend to be stubborn and will want to point away from the middle so you might want to give

them a little nudge to make them point the right way.

Step 7 Place the rivoli face up in the beadwork. Depending on your thread tension, the rivoli might sit more to the top or the bottom of the beadwork. If your tension was relatively

low, it may sit a little deeper. Exiting the middle bead of one of the picots of the last step, pick up a 4mm bicone. Go through the middle bead of the next picot. Add a total of seven

4mm bicones.

To reinforce, go through this entire round again, and tighten.

The rivoli will now be secured.

Step 8 Finish your beadwork by creating a beaded loop on the back to attach your findings to. You can use both thread ends for this. If your tail is on the back already, use that. Exit a

group of three seed beads, pick up three or more seed beads and go through the adjacent

group of three seed beads.

Step 9 Finish and weave in your thread ends. Add your jump rings and/or

earring hooks

Claudia Koolmees

Hi everyone, my name is Claudia Koolmees. 28 years ago I was born in The Netherlands. I have always been a crafty person. I had a short beading period when I was about 15

years old, but at that time, the supplies at my local craft store were pretty much limited to poor quality seed beads, plastic pearls and maybe some firepolished beads if you

were lucky. I re-discovered my love for beads and jewelry a couple of years ago, when I was

introduced to glass-fusing and wanted a way to make my home made glass cabochons wearable, other than just glueing a bail to them. I got some Toho seed beads and other

supplies at a craft fair, started making beaded bezels and have not stopped beading since!

With all those lovely different beading techniques and beads out there, it’s hard to pick a favourite. I do love crystals though, and whether I do bead embroidery or a Cellini

spiral, it’s hard not to add a crystal every here and there. Etsy shop: www.archesdesigns.etsy.com

Materials - Approx 150 Superduo beads (30 each in 5 colours) - Around 600 15/0 seed beads (I used Galvanised Silver Toho) - Around 160 11/0 seed beads (I used Galvanised Silver Toho) - 450cm of beading thread (6lb Fireline or equivalent) - Beading needle (I used a Beadsmith large hole needle)

I prefer to use the full length of thread, but if you find it easier to use shorter pieces it isn’t a problem - you will just need to keep tying

on new thread as it runs out.

Thread 5 Superduos separated by 11/0 seed beads – ending with a seed bead – as shown.

Pass the needle back through the beads to form a loop. Leave a tail of about 10cm.

Tie a knot in the 2 threads to secure the loop.

Take the thread back through the first Superduo.

The thread needs to now go through the other hole of this first Superduo, do this by taking the thread around the bead first. This means that you can not only continue beading in the same direction but that the thread taking you to the second hole will not show

in your finished product.

Now you need to add a 11/0 seed bead before passing through the next Superduo

Go through each of the Superduos in turn – adding a 11/0 seed bead

between each one. Bring the thread out through the first Superduo threaded.

When you have gone through each of the beads, pull gently on the thread and the beads will all come together to make a tube.

Take the thread through each of these beads again, this time exiting through the seed bead after your first Superduo. Pull tight, this

will help secure the structure of your bracelet.

This is the first layer now of your bracelet done. Now you need to start adding the other layers by following the next 12 steps: With your thread coming out of the seed bead next to your first Superduo (in my case the pale blue one) add 2 size 15 seed beads,

1 size 11 and 2 more size 15’s.

Jump over the next Superduo and take the thread through the next seed bead.

Gently pull on the thread until the 5 seed beads form an inverted V with above the Superduo.

Add another 5 seed beads (2 size 15, 1 size 11 followed by 2 size 15) the same as before. Miss out the Superduo and take the thread through the next seed

bead. Gently pull tight.

Repeat this until all 5 Superduos have been covered. When you are on the 5th one, take the thread through the size 11 AND the following 2 size 15’s and size

11. This is the “step up” for the next layer of beads.

Add your first colour of Superduo, take the thread through the size 11 that is at

the top of the next “V”.

Add your Second colour of Superduo, take the thread through the size 11 that

is at the top of the next “V”.

Continue adding your Superduos until all 5 have been added. Make sure your

thread comes out through the first colour you added.

Bring your thread around the back of this first bead and through the top hole.

The thread will now be hidden as your bracelet grows. Add a size 11 seed bead in between each Superduo as before.

Take the thread through the beads again to help keep the structure.

Add the next layer in the same way as before – repeating these 12 steps.

Make sure that your thread is coming out of a seed bead then add 2 size 15 seed beads. Take the thread through the size 11 on the opposite side. Add 2 more size 15’s and bring the thread back to the first side. Add 2 more size 15’s and repeat all the way round.

Take the thread through (like step 12) and exit where the original tail thread is. Tie these ends together and then thread both of

them through several beads before snipping off the excess thread carefully.

Keep adding layers until your bracelet is long enough. Make sure that it will fit over the widest part of your wrist.

Lay the bracelet on a flat surface so that it isn’t twisted. Bring the ends together so

that the pattern can continue from one end to the other.

Today, we have the privilege to get to know Yoola from Yoola Designs, and get to see how she has been able to make it in the jewelry business and be able to set up an

amazing shop that has amazing wire crochet designs! So without further ado, presenting Yoola!

Interview With Yoola

1. Tell us about yourself, your location and how did you start your jewelry business?

I was born and raised in Israel, a small country with low resources, which I guess, leads us to be as creative as possible. I am a trained industrial designer and have been working as such for many years, being a designer is more than an occupation, it's a state of mind. I loved my profession and still do, but it left my hands starving for participating

in the creative process. The design of products is done solely on the computer, the mouse becomes an extension of your hand, and I wanted more. I wanted to be able to accompany the ideas from start to end with my own hands. I wanted to be able to create gifts I design and make.

What also attracted me about jewelry design was the independence I have through the process. Your are the origin of the design as well as the craftsman, being able to then share it with people around the

world adds a very exciting tinge. I lived in Switzerland for a couple of years so for me

this is the place where I discovered the wire crochet craft and I’ll never stop being grateful for that. Once I had made jewelry for all my friends

and family and was still going on with my creations, I opened my first Etsy shop... the rest is history.

Interview With Yoola

2. Wire crochet is a unique jewelry. Why and how did you choose this medium to create your jewelry? Is there anyone who inspired you to do wire crochet?

To add on that, the wire crochet ISK technique in specific, enables an incredible freedom of movement and designs with the wire. Personally this is the place I can truly express my craving for a design that is nature inspired, trying to encage air, and having fluid, simple, and light designs. did anyone say minimalism ?

When I just started making jewelry I experimented with many techniques , but what captured me with wire crochet , was that it was a medium I could carry with me wherever I go , it's a compact hobby that requires very little equipment, all one basically needs are a crochet hook, wires and a wire cutter.

3. Do you notice any particular wire crochet design that sells more or get noticed more?

It has so much of a glamorous character, while remaining classic and simple in its lines and design. It is occasionally get purchased for brides as wedding jewelry, anniversary gifts, valentines... and even for one's self ;-)

The range of wire crochet jewelry designs I make respond to a large span of styles and audience . From urban jewelry to classic bridal sets, in various materials and colors, in some case using crystals, stones and beads to complement them. However, I have a few star items that always get to be in the spotlight! One of them is undoubtedly my wide wire crochet bracelet.

4. Can you share with us some jewelry making or design tips, especially for wire crochet?

Patience, practice, patience and more practice! But really, the ISK wire crochet technique I have developed is very much step by step and can be achieved by anyone, with no previous knowledge . My tutorials are available as printable e-books as well as online videos, or alternatively All In One wire crochet DIY kits that include the required supply. it really is like having a home based workshop!

Once the technique is mastered, and you know its advantages and weaknesses , don't try to force into it what it is not , let your creativity flow with it . Did someone say harmony ? :)

5. Nowadays, handmade jewelry business has become more than a niche. There is now a big population of online handmade jewelry sellers. Since competition is getting tougher can you give tips on how to get noticed online, be popular maybe and survive

in the market?

But as you said, competition is tough and I'll be sorry to say that there is no magic spell! One always has to be alert and on top of the ongoing trends and fashion. However, it remains essential to always stay true to yourself and to keep listening to your inner voice.

This is so true! I also feel that people are having a rebound from the “ready-made” products and have a longing for rediscovering the process there is in every finished product, this is why I try to share with my audience videos and photos from my work process.

A jewelry business is FUN , keep this in mind and you are halfway there, if you enjoy what you do it will be reflected in your designs and others will enjoy it too ! :)

6. Any inspiring word, thought or insights you can impart to our readers who would like to start a jewelry business?
