2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR A CORRECT USE

Your bench unit includes a system that is able to restore the absolute position of the reference slide that could have been lost. If so, you’ll be asked to reset the unit to zero as described in chapter 5.2.

Should you use tools fitted with moving parts (e.g. removable arm) that can be tighten using a screw capable of producing a strong measuring or clamping force, it is advisable to use the fine setting device. During the setting procedure, the reference slide must not be moved forcibly along the measuring axis as this may

result in incorrect position of this feature, thus bringing about a warning sound. In

this case, you’ll have to repeat the whole procedure as described in chapter 5.2. Not using the support-screws will cause the loss of the warranty

If the ambient conditions vary from those applied at the time the bench unit was set and calibrated (i.e. reference temperature at 20° ±0,5° C), all relevant setting values must be compensated for according to the coefficient of linear expansion matching that of steel. Temperature variations occurring during shipment may result in faulty operating as the procedure for automatic positioning is in progress (looking for the zero). In such case, the slide may position itself on any value before the desired one could be reached. If so, you’ll get a message telling you that a TRACKING error or I*I*t has occurred. To avoid this happening, we advise to leave the unit unused for at least 48 hours until temperature has stabilised, thus matching that of your workshop or your laboratory.

Both messages TRACKING error and I*I*t may appear during manual or automatic

positioning. If the problem results from a collision, press several times to have

the current operation be ended and to return to main menu. To move the reference

slide to a higher value, press . Once the reason for collision has been

eliminated, press to start the procedure to search for the zero as described

under point 5.2.

“ZERO IN PROCESS, ERR. POSITION X! ” occurs when the zeroing of the machine is

not done properly. In this case, slide manually with the movable reference

around 140 mm and then press for zeroing: instruction video on youtube – GV

METROLOGIA – operator error.

AC adapter along with mains cable

Screw / shock absorbers

Instruction manual

GV METROLOGIA calibration certificate

There are extra adapters available as an option.

Preparing the unit

1 Prepare a table or a surface area that’s suitable to support the weight of the unit, made of steel,

iron or granite. Or any material which do not deform because of the weight. 2 Prepare the screws/pins/shock-absorber 3 Lift up the machine, and screw 2 pins on a side and 1 central pin on the opposite side. They will

support the weight. For model from 1000mm and above, screws 2 more pins on the side where you initially have screwed 1 central pin. These additional 2 pins will work to keep the machine balanced, they don’t have to support much weight.

4 Balance the unit horizontally in a place avoiding doors, gates, air conditioning, fans, direct sunlight. 5 If the environment is very dirty/oily, a polycarbonate protection is suggested.

5 Connect DC jack outlet (11) to

the 18 V DC input (10) at the rear of the unit.

6 Insert mains cable end (13-A) into adapter (12). Connect cable socket (13-B) to the mains.

Before starting any setting procedure, install your bench unit and wait until its has stabilized to the ambient temperature, thus avoiding incorrect operating. For models TAR-AL 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 Undo the 4 screws on the pallet, and then remove the granite plate from its base. Carry on the installation as described above.

5 MAIN FUNCTIONS

Your TAR-AL setting bench may either use default values or those you’ll have entered manually. Note that mounting the right adapter is essential to enhance efficiency and effectiveness The numbers between brackets () refer to the components listed under point 3.1. 5.1 Switching on for the first time

Once the initial preparation is completed (point 4.3), switch on the bench unit (8) and set it to zero before any other operation..

6.5 Adapter for standard bore gauges : how to use the AL serie adapter This adapter is made of 2 parts.

The first one is inserted into the fixed slide using the two positioning holes as well as both guiding pins. Its size depends on the width of the gauge foot.

Make sure the contact surfaces of the fixed slide and those of the adapter are perfectly clean.

The second component, which is standard for every bore gauge, is mounted on the mobile slide and safety clamped as shown below.

Once done, position the bore gauge between both datum surfaces. Gently rest centring shoe against the measuring faces of the ceramic gauge block on the fixed part. Lower the gauge until second measuring insert is contacting the measuring faces of the moving part.

Swivel the bore gauge slowly until the culminat-ing point is found.

Once zero-setting is completed, the gauge is ready for use.

7.4 Adapter for external range reduction to 10 mm ( 0.4 in ) A300031

Fig.1 - Adapter A300031

Enable the Offset

1. Push F2 twice to zeroing the machine as per usual procedure. 2. Mount the adapter A300031 on the 2 metallic reference carefully on the 2 ceramic pads ( do

not tight the screws yet ). 3. To align the 2 accessories with 2 metallic reference bars so that they are perfectly on the

same axis. 4. Now tight the screws very lightly. 5. To enable the new zero set of the machine given by the 2 accessories, enter the main menu

from the keyboard by pressing PGdown, then press F3 offset. The machine requires a reference nr, enter number 6 and press ENTER.

TAR-AL is now ready to be used with the reduction adapters for the reduction of the minimum external value. To return to the standard functions of the machine it is enough to press ESC several times ( 2/3 times ).

7.5 Procedure for first setting the new zero offset and periodical checking of the offset.

To use the adapter A300031 on the TAR-AL , it’s necessary to insert a new setting in the machine memory as a second ZERO OFFSET value ( to recall every time these adapters are used ). It’s necessary to check the offset at least 3 times per year or at every weather season swift. The value must be inserted in the list of the OFFSETS in the TAR-AL memory and at first use must be checked and reset if needed ( we remind that the machine and its adapters are produced and set at controller temperature 20° ± 0.2 and all sets can be affected by any temperature change ). Inserting the adapter Offset :

1. Switch ON the bench and proceed with the zeroing ( F2 x 2 ).

2. From the main menu press PgDw (2) ( ) , entering the following submenu:

Page 31: TAR-AL - GV METROLOGY > Home User's Manual .pdf · a result of incorrect use. GV METROLOGIA disclaims all liability for any malfunction caused by the use of the unit in a way that

31

3. Select F2) param ( ) , to access at the 2nd sub-menu and digit the password (123456)

+ confirm with ENTER ( ) . In the new menu select F4) TAB/OFF ( ) , then press F3)

OFFSET ( )

4. In the opening menu, according to the order, insert:

a. Code-name referred to the accessory ( i.e.1 or 2 or 6 ) (important: do not overwrite the existing codes in the TAR-AL

b. . If the display shows the value of the article i.e. ”1”, press the down arrow until the display shows on the first empty line - ████████ █ )

Code-name: 6 – confirm with ENTER ( )

c. Value of the coefficient “M” = 1.000000 always to be written with n°6 decimals

after the decimal point ) – confirm with ENTER ( )

d. Value of the Offset “Q” = 13.00 – confirm with ENTER ( )

5. ESC from the parameters-insert mode by pressing ESC ( ) , and save the setting of the

value just entered by pressing at the same time “SHIFT” + “Y ” ( + ) . Then press

ESC ( ) to go back to the main menu.

Checking of the adapter offset : This procedure allows the re-setting of the adapter’s OFFSET value and to correct possible errors. It has to be done with a certified OD micrometer (it’s also possible to use a micrometer which

has just been zeroed on the ceramic reference of the TAR-AL ). NB. This procedure must to be redone also the first time the offset is entered in the new environment / shopfloor. Procedure. 1. Turn on the machine and press F2 x 2 to zeroing the machine. Mount the 2 accessories fixing

on the same axes. 2. To enable the measurement range with the accessories, from the main menu, press

PGdown, then F3 offset. The machine requires the article or name-code and digit number 6 + Enter.

3. Set a value over 20.000 mm (see pag. 10 of User’s manual ) and check the noticed value with a certified micrometer i.e.. 19.993 mm. The eventual difference from the set value (20.000 mm) and the noticed one (19.993 mm) represent the error of the offset to be adjusted. In this case: 20.000 – 19.993 = 0.007 mm

N.B. In case of negative offset, insert the value adding the minus sign : ( - ) ( )

4. Repeat again the procedure described from point nr.2 until point nr. 4 but this second time insert the parameter Q at the same value of the Offset previously noticed. In this example case:
