.The World First Cattle feed CDM Project

• Waste water originates from the cattle manure; 18,000 heads • Average manure produced 25.400 kgVS/day• Total volume of waste water discharged to open lagoons system is unknown due to some huge amount of fresh manure reduction (fertilizer purpose) and low rainfall• Total volume of waste water (with flushing system) 70 m3/day• Biogas production is estimated 139.000 MJ/day, equivalent to 0.68 MW

Anaerobic Processes

• HydrolysisInvolves the enzyme-mediated transformation of higher-molecular-masscompounds into compounds suitable for use as a source of energy and cell

carbon

• AcidogenesisInvolves bacteria conversion of the compounds resulting from the 1st step intoidentifiable lower-molecular-mass-intermediate compounds

• MethanogenesisInvolves the bacterial conversion of the intermediate compounds into simplerend products, Methane and CO2

The conversion of hydrogen and carbon dioxide to methane and waterthe conversion of Acetate to Methane and Carbon dioxide

Required Conditions for a successful Anaerobic Process

• The CIGAR should be void of dissolved solid oxygen, free from any inhibitory concentration of such constituents as heavy metals and sulfides

• pH adjustment, 6.6 – 7.6

• Alkalinity to ensure that the pH will not drop below 6.2 (Methane bacteria can not perform below this point

• Volatile fatty acids should be less than 250 mg/l

• Mesophilic temperature 30 – 38 0C

• Thermopilic 49 – 57 0C

Improvements needed

• Power Purchase Agreement (PPA): long, expensive, tedious, and uncertain process.

• The classic problems of subsidy to dirty fuels, not to clean ones.

• Foreign investment policy, regulations.– CER is not a recognized “commodity” or services.– Limitation of asset ownership by foreign companies.

• Tax and incentives for innovations.
