Target Acquisition/Fire Control Functionality
Operational Concept
Largely menu driven TA/FC with limited switches for weight savings
Dual aimpoint approach – battlesight always present– Dot for laser aimpoint– Open cross for HE battlesight and adjusted
aimpoint– Open cross with dot for KE battlesight
Laser range finder activated upon lase switch press
Operational Concept based on team decisions with User input
25mm Conversion Bottom Line
Mar 03 – Decision to convert from 20mm to 25mm.– Decision based on:
25mm XM25 system technically achievable.Greater lethality of 25mm.Significant cost avoidance for 25mm airburst ammunition.
May 03 – Decision to Combine Low Velocity (XM25) and High Velocity (XM307) development efforts.– GDATP and ATK agreed to teaming for common
ammo.– GDATP has the lead.
OCSW Caliber StudySummary
JSAAP OCSW Caliber Study dated 29 Mar 02
“A common projectile is feasible. The 25mm projectile, with unique propellant cartridges for each system, could be developed. Production cost savings could easily overshadow the cost savings predicted in this study. This course of action trades greater lethality and flexibility with an increased weight burden.”
“A common fuze, regardless of caliber, is feasible. A
common projectile could be developed that would incorporate contact fuze setting and electronic range determination (with muzzle velocity correction capability)”
Trade Offs Developing a 25mm
Gains– Increased lethality.
– Permits the leveraging of funds from both XM29 and XM307 programs to improve the 25mm in terms of aeroballistics and warhead/fuze efficiency.
– Significant savings in development and production cost of ammunition estimated at $109.6M (potentially higher) **
– Provides an opportunity to develop a relative single family of 25mm munitions for XM25 and XM307.
Losses
– Increased weight of XM25 makes XM29 combinatorial system weight (KPP) unachievable at this time.
– Depending on acquisition approach, could required additional RDTE funding and increase in schedule.

Change is the only fact of lifeWe have accepted it
We are adopting to it
We are moving forward
Our mission still is:
“To provide our soldiers with the best capabilities
available within given cost and schedule”
We will succeed!
