Target audience

Age rating

!   My chosen genre is psychological thriller. Usually the age rating of films in this genre is either 15 or 18, depending on the explicit content, due to the psychological issues which are complicated to follow and may be disturbing for younger viewers

!   I would say my film would be rated a 15 and aimed at teenagers from around this age and up, as it’s not too challenging to follow and doesn’t include a lot of violence

Gender

!   As they are predominantly about issues within the mind, females tend to prefer the intellectual side of the mental illness portrayed. However, males are drawn to the violence and action side of them, as well as the strange behaviour featured

!   Because of this, I think the gender distribution of my audience will be roughly equal

Audience interests

!   My target audience will be people who are already interested in this genre, as people like to be psychologically challenged

!   They may like films such as Shutter Island, The Butterfly Effect, Fight Club, Donnie Darko and A Beautiful Mind

!   I am hoping for my film to be seen in the same style of Shutter Island, where the audience and protagonist alike struggle to work out what’s real
