Target Audience and research

The target audience is a specific group of people in which our product will be aimed at. Our choice on the target audience depends on the viewer’s age, ethnicity, and class and socio economic group. Our product will be aimed at adults from the age of 15-25. We decided the film can only be watched by over 15 year olds because it contains strong violence and scenes inappropriate for younger viewers. The product focuses on shocking the viewers and portraying the unexpected.

British Board of film Classification

The British Board of Film Classification classified our product as a 15 and over film. This is due to the fact that there is no strong violence throughout the film. As well as this there are no sexual scenes which are inappropriate for viewers under the age of 18. Although the film has some violence throughout, there is not much gore therefore it doesn’t classify as an 18 and over film. In a 15 film there can be moderate violence as long as the film doesn’t dwell on pain and injury. As well as this dangerous behaviour which can be copied such as a character hanging themselves is inappropriate in a 15 rated film.

Ethnicity and Gender

Our product is not aimed at any specific group or ethnicity. It can be viewed by anyone no matter what they are. The product is also not aimed at any specific gender or group. However the product is an intense horror film we are likely to attract groups of friends in their teens as well as couples who enjoy watching a thrilling film

Socio economic group

There are 6 Socio economic groups, these are:

A - Higher managerial, administrative and professional

B - Intermediate managerial, administrative, and professional

C1 - Supervisory, clerical and junior managerial,

C2 - Skilled manual workers,

D - Semi skilled and unskilled manual workers

E - Casual labourers, pensioners, unemployed

The Socio economic groups we are aiming for are C2 and E. This is due to the fact that casual labourers and the unemployed tend to be young have much more time to watch films such as horrors compared to the Intermediate and professionals who are older and more sophisticated and generally do not fit into our target audience. We also chose to go for skilled manual workers because they are also generally into the beginning of their profession and tend to have more youth and money with them.
