Target Flags LOGIC PUZZLE 2http://www.sporcle.com/games/mrsmith/target-flags-logic-puzzle-2

Each row contains one 5-, one 6-, one 7-, one 8-, one 9- & one 10-letter country.

Each column contains 3 countries of different length. The triangles at the top of the column indicate the total number of letters of the countries in that column.

The greater-than & less-than arrows relate to number of letters in the country name.

Targets show the colours of each country's flag. (Colours do not relate to the proportion of each colour in any given flag.)

Name each country.

Page 2: Target flags 2

Firstly, any countries with unique colour combinations in their flags can be inserted. These are: B (LESOTHO), G(ARMENIA), J (ZAMBIA), L (INDIA) & O (MAURITANIA).

Page 3: Target flags 2

If Column 2 totals 26, country H must have 9 letters. The only 9-letter country with this colour combination on its flag is LITHUANIA.

Country P has more letters than J (ZAMBIA). This eliminates NIGER and COTE D’IVOIRE has too many letters. [Even if IVORY COAST were allowable, O has 10 letters, so there cannot be another 10-letter country in the 3rd row.] P can therefore only be IRELAND.

The column 3 total being 18, C must have 5 letters. This means that it can only be YEMEN.

Page 4: Target flags 2

Country F cannot be MOROCCO, as LESOTHO already has the 7-letter slot in Row 1. The only other country with a green & red flag is BANGLADESH, so this must be F.

Row 1 now contains 5, 7 & 10 letter countries. E cannot, therefore, be PALAU, UKRAINE or KAZAKHSTAN, so this leaves SWEDEN as the only option.

Column 5 has a total of 20 letters, so R must have 9 letters. The only 9-letter country with this colour combination on its flag is PALESTINE.

Page 5: Target flags 2

K and M must have either 8 or 10 letters in their names. M has fewer letters than F (BANGLADESH), so K must have 10 and M must have 8 letters. The only 10 letter country with K’s combination of flag colours is MADAGASCAR and the only 8-letter country with M’s flag colours is ZIMBABWE.

Only ESTONIA and BOTSWANA have Q’s exact combination of colours in their flag. IRELAND has already taken the 7-letter position in Row 3, so Q can only be BOTSWANA.

Page 6: Target flags 2

If Column 4 has a total of 27 letters, D must have 9 letters. The only country with a red & yellow flag and 9 letters in its name is MACEDONIA, so this must be D.

This leaves only an 8 letter option in Row 1. This means that A must have 8 letters and a blue & white flag. The only country to which this applies is HONDURAS.

Page 7: Target flags 2

If the total number of letters in Column 1 is 21, N must have 6 letters. The only 6-letter country with this colour combination on its flag is RWANDA.

If Column 6 totals 23 and there is only one option left in the 3rd

row anyway, S must have 5 letters. The only 5-letter country with a red, green & yellow flag is BENIN, so this must be S.
