Movement You can animate a still image to make it move, this works by slightly altering the image in each frame until there is a moving figure.

Masking Masking is an effect used to put an overlay over a animation. This can be removing a body part from a person and replacing it with something else or replacing part of an object with another object.

Morphing This technique is used to animate an image into another image (merging). This is useful effect which can be used when someone turns into a wolf for example.

Entertainment Animation is used in a lot of popular cartoon programs. Simpsons and Futurama are examples. A good animation created by flash is Animator vs. Animation.

Advertising We see animated advertising on the sides of a pitch in a football game. This is a good way to advertise because it attracts the eye of people and when it moves people continue to look at it.

Education Revision services such as My Maths and Bitesize use flash animation to allow students to revise in the form of a game or quiz. This can also help keep the concentration of the students.

Software Tools Frames

Fps (frames per second) is how fast the animated image will run. The default frame rate of flash is 15 fps. Each frame has a part of an image in.

Layers

Layers are used to give each part a work space. They are very useful for when you change your mind about a colour for example, because you can easily change the colour without doing the whole design again.

Control

The play button controls when the animation plays.

Tweening

Classic tween allows the object to move from one place to another.

Motion tween allows full movement of the object around the display.

Library

This tool is used to store all data that has been used in a session. You can save all work at different progress stages.

Symbols

These small images all represent a function of which it will perform. You can familiarise yourself with the functions by remembering/ recognising the symbol.

Preloaders

Preloaders are very useful to put in a flash movie. Because it lets people know that the movie is loading and that it hasn’t frozen.

Media

Additional pictures, sounds or videos that you want in the animation can be easily added into the project.

Persistence of vision These types of vision are illusions which trick the brain

into thinking that the object is moving when in fact it is still.
