Theme or focus of images

It is clear that this photographer is into music specifically rock and likes to convey the feeling of touring with a band into his photos with pictures of the band backstage, guitar cases and the band coming on the stage, because the band are on tour the photos are taken in different places, wherever the band are touring. The majority of the photos apart from the ones of cases feature the band (Darlia) and even on the cases it has the band’s name on. It’s obvious the photographer likes get natural shots of the band either before going on or action shots whilst on but they are never posed. The photos were taken on the bands 2013 tours and at the start of 2014 I know this because of how the lead singer (Nathan Day) looks like and because of how big the shows are because they’ve only just come into popularity. These photos were taken for NME to promote the band and tell people who they are and what they’re like so I think the photographer took this account and tried to capture the essence of the band in the most natural way instead of doing posed photos in a studio he caught what they were like backstage and on stage and I think he did it successfully.Composition

In photos 4, 7 and 8 the photographer decides to only include the singer (Nathan Day) because he is the frontman and I think he’s trying to capture what he’s like as a frontman so people who read NME can get an idea of what he’s like. He could of included the rest of the band in the shot but he decides to only include the frontman because that’s who people concentrate on the most and who everyone are going to be interested in.

Photo 4 I think was taken to show the passion behind the band because the photo is of the front man holding the microphone with both hands and you can see him giving it his all down the microphone. I think this was the best photo taken by him because of how it’s from the crowds POV and it gives you an experience of what it would be like to see them live with the passion in the face and because he puts it in black and white that’s where your eyes get drawn and its very well framed how the microphone and the singers head are the centre points of the photo.

Techniques used

Page 5: Task 1 work sheet 2 (1) finished

Different filters were used on quite a few of the photos to make them look a bit older and more vintage and they give a more personal feel to the photos. There was a little bit of depth of field use but not a lot was just used a tiny bit to draw your eye to the main target the band/ frontman.Strengths & Weaknesses

I like the filters used on the photos, how he uses POV shots so the audience can relate also I like how he made all the photos looks so natural. So all of these will probably influence my work.

I don’t like how stuff is left in the shot such as in the first photo there’s a water bottle in the bottom right of the photo that could have been framed out of the shot.
